European Commission President days Iran shouldn't have nuclear weapons. Israel has right to defend itself

Nowayyousure · 16/06/2025 04:31

"European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said she told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday that diplomacy was ultimately best on Iran, but stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Von der Leyen said that she agreed with Netanyahu in a telephone call that "Iran should not have a nuclear weapon, without any question."

Von der Leyen has previously criticised Israel's actions in Gaza, but said that Iran's non-compliance with the UN nuclear watchdog meant Israel "has the right to defend itself".

"Iran is the principal source of regional instability," she added."

You obviously haven't read what I've said about Iran funding terrorism at all. Why quote a comment and then not reply to what is said. Lots of people say lots of things (which I don't condone at all, thats a different matter and needs dealing with) but facts about what has happened already are important.

Please tell me you do realise that without Iran funding terrorists throughout the middle east for years that this situation wouldn't have occurred. Surely you realise that or just another deflection from facts about Iran.

Do you see what the thread is about?

Did you read what other countries are saying and know?

Your comment doesn't follow this discussion at all, maybe you meant it to go on another thread about Israeli ministers?

Edited

Israel has murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians , many would say that Israel is the terrorist !!!!

treesfalling · 17/06/2025 07:41

At this point, the Israelite regime is serving US purposes with US- and U.K.-built missiles.

We are welcome to the aftermaths of it all.

So we should expect to be targeted here? And if so we deserve it?

Amplepombear · 17/06/2025 07:43

Again, without international bodies evaluating evidence, it is Israel and Iran’s words against each other. Where is the oversight from international bodies? Where is the security council of the UN? Israel has attacked more of its neighbours than it hasn’t and are all of them backing terrorism? Right. Are we to believe what ICC-wanted war criminal Netenyahu is saying? Is there no international law anymore and anyone with bigger bombs can obliterate anyone?
are we about to see Tehran turn into Gaza? How did the last regime change stabilised the region? Oh hang!

Do you believe Iran doesn't want to obliterate Israel and will unite with its neighbours to do so?

PhilippaGeorgiou · 17/06/2025 08:03

Support neither Israel nor Iran, but the nuclear genie is out of the bottle. Other countries look at the "boys own club" that possess nuclear weaponry and want to have it for themselves. Being lectured to by nuclear powers about why you can't have it will not convince anyone. Recall that Israel developed it's own nuclear capability without "permission"? North Korea, India and Pakistan are also on that list. South Africa also althought hey later gave them up - but still have the capability to build having done it once. And both France and China developed nuclear weapons after refusing to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, then signed it (stopping others from doing so) only after they had developed them.

The UK has just committed £15 billion to replacing nuclear warheads when we say that we cannot afford support for our people - we are willing to invest in potentially destroying others in a war that will end all war, and all people. I despise Iran and all it stands for. But neither Iran nor anywhere else will desist from developing weapons on the say so of countries that have decided that it's ok for them to have them but not anyone else.

What exactly do you think the IAEA is if not an 'international body'. Google is your friend but I've done it for you en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Atomic_Energy_Agency

This is one BBC report on someone seeing some report from them. We need thorough investigations. We cannot afford another Iraq all over again where every one and their mom had some evidence till they didn’t. Therefore, we need proper investigation authorised by international bodies without adding further fuel to the destability in the region. Israel is only planting seeds of generations of hatred in the region with this campaign.
Was the current regime of Iran an outcome of the coup that USA and U.K. brought about? When will we learn lessons? We need thorough investigations in open and not ‘seen by some journalist’.
They were utterly sure about Saddam till they weren’t. And that led to millions of lives lost and tens of millions of refugees inundating Europe, including the U.K.

@Nads0622

"Israel has murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians , many would say that Israel is the terrorist !!!!"

So less than 2 months ago five Iranians were arrested for planning a terrorist bomb attack in London. Try and think what might happen if Iran gets access to nuclear weapons.

My fear here is that your extreme left wing liberal self hate of the UK, the West and its values combined with "Israel must always be wrong " have led you to a position where are now sympathising with Iran which has attacked British ships through its proxies, kidnapped Royal Navy and has terrorists planning attacks in London.

You may not recognise it yourself but if you continue down this rabbit hole you risk becoming further radicalised.

Oh dear. Have you anything to say about the subject of thread at all? What the EC said about Iran? Any comments? Or just the usual Israel bad shouting which fills so many threads. I believe each thread has a topic for a reason. Helps with discussion rather than the 'shouting' which contributes little.

Some people would still be cheering & waving flags whilst the bomb is hurtling towards them 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's really worrying when you see this type of lack.of thinking. Social media filled with little thinking and similar rants.

I fear that is true.

To be honest I am more concerned that such people spend so long in social media echo chambers and protest groups becoming angrier and angrier that they themselves become radicalised and actually become the ones hurtling bombs.

Do you think Uk, USA and Israel have not been doing proxy wars in other countries through their own mercenaries?
think again. Israel has been fighting proxy in Iran for ages and vice versa.

This, under no circumstances, warrants for any kind of direct attack on a sovereign nation. In fact, the whole point of proxy wars is to avoid engaging in a full on war costing thousands of lives and billions to economies.

Do no try to appropriate the work of British agencies for the dirty job that Trump and Netenyahu are doing. It’s going to sow generations of hatred. These pictures and videos are never going away. And who is reaping the benefits? Of course the oligarchs everywhere.

We have been here before, haven’t we? It is crucial that we investigate. Also, justice requires we investigate Israel’s nukes also, after their persistent campaign of terror against Palestinians.
This new frontier of war they have opened is going to have long range consequences and not at all anything good.
We must investigate who is behind this and why? Trump is supporting Putin, Trump is also supporting Netenyahu and overtly blocking Ukraine. Why? If there was ever any time that the world needed de-escalation from all wars, it is now so we can figure out what is benefiting which party!

Agreed. Following this logic - we would all be living under Nazi rule by now. Why anyone can support a country who has a sole and stated aim to destroy Jews is beyond me.

I think you will find that the people in these regions are now thinking ‘When will these land g tea beers come after me once they are done with Gaza and now Tehran?’

or does this sort of worry only matters if your skin is white?
