Heartbreaking news report from Gaza - Dr receives bodies of her children

Many of you will already have read about this. Paediatric specialist Dr Alaa al-Najjar was on duty when the bodies of nine of her 10 children were received by her in the hospital, after a strike in Khan Younis hit her home.

This report just stopped me in my tracks. I don't know what to say beyond this. I cannot stop thinking about this poor woman tonight.

er children killed by a strike in Khan Younis. Guardian link

Is this really the right thread to quibble over terminology?

That poor, poor woman.

I have seen people on here deny that Hamas are terrorists despite them being a proscribed terrorist organisation according to the UK, US & EU.

To me that feels like an attempt to minimise Hamas actions and intentions.

I'm here most days and this has escaped me.

Indeed, I've been reading these threads since just after 7/10 (with the occasional break for sanity), some posters were quite brazen about their support for the 'resistance' back then, which we saw echoed on the streets of London and other parts of the UK. Often the links in posts were to 'supportive' twix feeds.
It's been an eye-opener.

Me neither. Many posters try to shut down any criticism of Israel and the IDF by labelling it as support for Hamas even if the poster has never mentioned Hamas. I have experienced this.

Moglet4 · 06/06/2025 15:41

Actually Andrew Fox has referred to him before! Also, that’s ok 🤣

By deliberately not mentioning Hamas but throwing all your criticism, unproven allegations and hate at the Israel/IDF, what exactly do you think you’re doing? Really not very clever.

Stating that the only concern you have in Gaza is the IDF?

Are Hamas innocent bystanders in this war?

Are you more qualified than either of them to give an opinion?

who are we talking about here?

Call out the terrorist supporters on the thread please.

@Twiglets1 could you point us to the posts that deny Hamas are terrorists I'd be interested to read them and to see which posters are saying that, thanks

Edited

Why would I mention Hamas when speaking about the actions of the IDF.

I have repeatedly stated my lack of support for Hamas across a number of threads.

Hamas are responsible for their actions and the IDF are responsible for theirs.

Do I need to put a disclaimer across my posts at this stage..

This is the weirdest conversation ever

Back when? A year and half ago? Are they still posting now? I'm assuming you've no evidence for these posts so we just take your word that posters were supporting the oct 7th attacks?

No I won't and the reason is this - very recently (in the last day or two) someone on the pro Palestinian side challenged me to find evidence of something I had stated. They said "I haven't seen that anywhere" ...

It took time and effort to find the exact post that proved my point but when I posted it with a link to the person who had expressed disbelief, the reply I got was along the lines of "anyway, that's irrelevant".

So I decided then that I wasn't going to waste my time again going back through old posts because the reply is always going to be dismissive.

I know what I've seen on these boards and so do others but if you don't believe me, tough.

Badh · 06/06/2025 16:04

Could you give the gist of the posts ? Name any names?

Moglet4 · 06/06/2025 16:06

AIBUHere · 06/06/2025 11:53

Where have they been refuted? By whom? Someone of the same level of expertise and experience I would hope?

I wait with bated breath for the links.

Do you mean he’s ‘biased’ due to using facts and experience, and having been in Gaza, rather than an anti-Israel narrative?

No, he is incredibly biased due to being an American with a very pro-Israel predisposition. His comments on the IDF are downright laughable. One of the claims he repeatedly makes (not only him) is that the 9:1 civilian casualty ratio is normal. This was debunked years ago and most military experts now consider it a myth. He, however, has not caught up with the times and continues to use it as a defence for the high number of civilian casualties. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/240542361_Lives_and_Statistics_Are_90_of_War_Victims_Civilians

That's up to you but I also think it is in very bad faith to suggest you've seen things posted which is used as a stick to beat all with and discredit posters as Hamas supporters and not back it up.

I have seen people
At least name the 'people" you are referring to.

Think what you want, I am completely done with finding things for other people just because they can't remember seeing the posts or don't believe me.

I can't remember the exact names and even if I could I could hardly post them without linking to the exact post or they would be up in arms so it's all pointless.

so it's all pointless

Indeed this exchange was. It is extremely frustrating when posters shutdown discussions or views they don't agree with by often unfounded accusations.

Honestly for someone who has questioned evidence before you need to supply some instead of accusing pro human rights posters as being pro hamas.

quantumbutterfly · 06/06/2025 16:46

Strangely enough 7/10 deniers and those that break talk guidelines by supporting illegal groups, get reported and deleted...and were I to track them down and name them I expect that also would be deleted as against talk guidelines....as any fool know.

It's not unfounded, I have seen people deny that Hamas are terrorists but I can't be bothered to find links so you can believe or not believe it I don't care.

There was a debate about BBC impartiality recently where someone was saying they agree with the BBC's decision not to describe Hamas as terrorists. I'm sure there are better examples than that but still ... the BBC consider the word terrorist too loaded and there was a poster saying they agree.

Maybe they prefer to call them freedom fighters or something, I don't know.

Good so they've been reported, deleted and most likely banned so why raise it now insinuating those that support Palestine are all the same.

Well I think we can all agree on that point. I'm getting quite zen about it now though.

Yes so best not to bring up historic posts and long gone posters, it's completely irrelevant to today's discussions
