Many of you will already have read about this. Paediatric specialist Dr Alaa al-Najjar was on duty when the bodies of nine of her 10 children were received by her in the hospital, after a strike in Khan Younis hit her home.

This report just stopped me in my tracks. I don't know what to say beyond this. I cannot stop thinking about this poor woman tonight.

er children killed by a strike in Khan Younis. Guardian link

There was CCTV footage released of the supposed shooting which showed it was a lie. And there were many videos showing Gazans grateful the for US/ Israeli aid distributed through channels Hamas don't have access to...they were chanting against Hamas ...why don't people support them? You know Hamas is posting on their media today that they've killed 11 "collaborators" ie their own people who don't want war. The war won't end without Hamas completely defeated. They know that and are pushing their propaganda to the fullest now ...and it seems their strategy is working!☹️

Nope. I’m reading the UK papers.

That you have declared UK papers as Hamas supporting or simply repeating Hamas propaganda doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Plus I never accused or declared the UK papers of being Hamas supporting. I don't believe that they intentionally support a terrorist organisation. But I do think that they blindly repeat everything they are told by the Hamas run media organisation.

Further proof of that was the way they initially reported the incident this morning. Now the GHF and IDF have issued their statements denying any involvement the UK media are reporting that too which at least gives a more balanced account. In reality, we don't know who was behind the incident.

Yes nonsense that we've to rely on Israeli and Hamas propaganda. Independent press needs access so we can all see and trust the reports on what is happening

Sure, independent press would be good. Just wouldn't be safe.

Just seen on the ch4 news the father in this family has died too.

There are no words.

I saw that..

I keep thinking about that poor woman. Please God Adam will survive that she has some reason to keep going.

I genuinely don't know how you would go on.

I think the video is inside the base and the accusations is that it happened outside the base. A bit of a stretch I would suggest to say that the Palestinians are grateful for aid. It has been devastating for innocent Palestinians.

Twiglets1 · 01/06/2025 18:58

Biscuitsformeandyou · 01/06/2025 18:49

They cannot verify any facts. That is the reality. Witnesses are making stuff up about tanks, medics are reporting people having been shot (not blown up by tanks?), there is no video footage. So they are just repeating what Hamas said. Why not use the lower number provided by the Palestinian Red Crescent rather than the higher number provided by Hamas? Just nonsense.

I agree they cannot verify any facts so it was worrying the way UK media was just repeating stuff Hamas media told them this morning.

A bit belatedly, the BBC have started to acknowledge this and are now stating in every update on this shooting incident that As a reminder: Israel doesn't allow independent access to the territory, making it difficult to verify facts on the ground

They cope in every other war zone and want to be there. That's the excuse Israel use for not allowing access. What are they trying to hide?

I see you are one of the many that like to get their news from Hamas-run authorities and then don't question that it could be wrong.

It's true that we can't believe what the IDF say unquestioningly but not many were questioning what came out of the Hamas media were they?

News from Hamas-run authorities like The Guardian and The Independent??? Honestly guys these excuses are getting more and more ridiculous.

How would you feel if after being starved for months your family were then shot by drones, snipers and tanks as they queued for food. Have some respect for the murder victims and stop victim blaming. Honestly we should all take a moment to think of the victims of this atrocity. As someone pointed out the doctor who has already lost ten children at the hands if the IDF has now lost her husband and Gaza has lost yet another doctor when they are so desperately needed. I mentioned it to my partner earlier in the car and he got tearful - he said while he knows we can’t let war crimes be hidden by the perpetrators the thoughts of losing your children and your partner is too much to bear - I completely agree, I can’t imagine what that poor woman is going through and the families of these latest victims. It is honestly too much for a person to take!

“The International Committee of the Red Cross said its field hospital in Rafah received a “mass casualty influx” of 179 people and that 21 patients were declared dead upon arrival. “All patients said they had been trying to reach an aid distribution site,” it added, describing it as “the highest number of weapon-wounded in a single incident since the establishment of the field hospital over a year ago”.”

No I apologise if my post was misleading. My point is definitely not that the Guardian or Independent are Hamas run.

My point is that they get their information from Hamas run media and don't acknowledge this but report what they are being told as if it is factual and verifiable.

Only the BBC has now started to make readers aware of this point by putting the above statement with every update: As a reminder: Israel doesn't allow independent access to the territory, making it difficult to verify facts on the ground

Exactly I know a journalist who was kidnapped and almost killed in two separate war zones. War correspondents make a decision, they put their lives at risk to ensure people know what is happening. Denying press access says you have something to hide!

I’m sure there will be a lot of people upset by that on this thread, with few further posts and with little to no outrage at Hamas for the further horror they have wreaked upon their people.

And they call themselves pro-Palestinians!

The rules on MN about why posts get deleted are actually pretty clear and fair. On this board, most of the posts that have got deleted I would guess are because of personal attacks or hate speech.

Too many post deletions lead to a person getting banned from the website.

Debate politely or at least non aggressively and people can express opinions on the actions of both sides in the war as much as they want to without getting "wiped off MN"

This is simply untrue, if you mention the G word, you're a gonna. The lobby knows.

This is unbelievable. You seriously think there will be people upset if it is proved correct that Hamas was firing on people??
You think everyone here wouldn't condemn that if its true?

I cant believe what im reading here.

I have yet to see anyone on mn who has said they are pro hamas. Can you tell us if you have seen this???

And just to make it clear, people who are horrified at the slaughter in Gaza are also horrified at the oct 7 slaughter by hamas.

Suggesting anything else is libellous.

The UK papers were just repeating stuff said by the Hamas run authorities first thing this morning.

Some of them like the BBC are now reporting the incident differently and in a more balanced way. Which is only appropriate seeing as they don't actually know what exactly happened and neither does The Guardian or Sky News etc.

From the BBC updated report: The Israel Defense Forces said initial findings show its forces "did not fire at civilians while they were near or within" the aid centre.

Earlier, the Israel and US backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation issued a strong statement of denial, saying the reports are false and fabricated, and asserted that its distribution of aid had gone ahead without incident.

An Israeli soldier in Rafah contacted the BBC to support this claim, saying that Israeli soldiers did fire near the crowd but not at them and that no one was hit.

Whatever did happen, it is clear that at least one medical facility, the Nasser hospital, received a large number of casualties, with a doctor telling the BBC that many had bullet wounds.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c628n68zpj6t

So they admit to shooting but we are supposed to blindly accept that they didn’t hit anyone. Based on what? What exactly is the ‘Hamas are responsible’ people basing this on? The Israeli backed GHF?

Maybe Israel could let independent press in then if verified figures are a concern.

I'm not pro Hamas. I'm anti what is happening in Gaza.
It's very hard to believe what Israel says frankly given they have lied about shooting the paramedics and they had to admit it for example.

They fired warning shots so were not trying to hit anyone.

What G word, genocide? People mention that all the time on MN and don't get their posts deleted. It's fine to have an opinion that it's a genocide though others will disagree and say it's a war.

Yes I do know that.

But at least they are admitting they don't really know what happened and you have to take every account with a pinch of salt (including the the IDF & government, naturally).

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 01/06/2025 20:32

One thing I would like to point out is that the narrative keeps changing from the IDF - this is strange behaviour if they want us to believe they are innocent. This is typical of Israel to keep changing stories and have everyone distracted by their various versions of the truth.

First defense today - they said they fired warning shots at the crowd but no one died.

Second defence - they said they didn’t fire any shots, there was no gun fire outside the centre and have released cctv from outside the distribution centre at that time to show there was no gunfire (slightly ignoring that the site of the massacre was reported to be 1km from the distribution centre.

Third defense today - very dodgy footage of some criminals shooting near a crowd. No verification of date or time or location - no international press outlets have shared or verified the footage. The talk online is that this is video from a black market operation in Khan Younis, run by a notorious family profiteering off stolen aid, selling flour at outrageous prices while Gaza suffers. No aid distribution sites exist in Khan Younis. Again not verified.

One thing I would say is that when someone is shot or has their family members murdered it is incredibly rare for them to lie to protect the people who shot them. For over 200 people who were injured to collectively lie and say the IDF soldiers and quadcopters shot them is highly improbable. For the aid agencies and the doctors on the ground to collectively lie is also highly improbable. Give it a few days and Israel will admit it but say they were all terrorists or some other excuse. I expect we will go from “I didn’t do it” to “I did it but it wasn’t my fault” and some more victim blaming.

This is not the first time the IDF have opened fire at Gazans collecting food aid - it’s happened countless times!
