Many of you will already have read about this. Paediatric specialist Dr Alaa al-Najjar was on duty when the bodies of nine of her 10 children were received by her in the hospital, after a strike in Khan Younis hit her home.

This report just stopped me in my tracks. I don't know what to say beyond this. I cannot stop thinking about this poor woman tonight.

er children killed by a strike in Khan Younis. Guardian link

Fresh headline this morning: Israel has killed 20 Palestinians who were queuing for food aid. Gunned them down.

This casual targeting of civilians constitutes a war crime.

There would be no shrugged shoulders and 'war is horrible, oh well' if Israelis were being routinely slaughtered like this.

And this has now been confirmed as completely false news. Why are people so quick to jump on anything anti Israel and spread it so widely?

Kindatired · 01/06/2025 17:52

So who was the terrorist that was so high ranking that the IDF felt forced to sacrifice the lives of 9 innocent children. What is his name? Of what crimes is he guilty? Did they get more than one? Why haven’t they released the details of outcome of what they obviously claim is a targeted attack? The parents are not Hamas ( like 10 kids, work, clinic pharmacy we’re expected to believe they had a side line in terrorism?)

I have no idea and neither do you.

It hasn't been confirmed either way yet. There is no clarity on what happened and by whom

definitely useful idiots for Hamas.
There are no useful idiots for Hamas on this thread

The IDF has categorically denied any involvement in the alleged incident. If it happened, it was probably Hamas.

Oh if the IDF said it then it absolutely must be true.

Hospitals lose their protection if they are used for military purposes. The leader of Hamas was recently killed when Israel bombed the grounds of the European Hospital where he had a base. Hamas's actions in building these bases intentionally and recklessly endanger Palestinians. They know that people will blame Israel regardless.

But at least one hospital was not and an Israeli Minister couldn't deny this evidence. So they are all just bombed then.

I see you are one of the many that like to get their news from Hamas-run authorities and then don't question that it could be wrong.

It's true that we can't believe what the IDF say unquestioningly but not many were questioning what came out of the Hamas media were they?

Just as true for Hamas -run media and health ministries.

Biscuitsformeandyou · 01/06/2025 18:25

YourOnMute · 01/06/2025 18:15

I don't think it has actually.

Why because Hamas hasn't agreed? The Palestinian Red Crescent said that about 22 ppl were killed but Hamas upped the numbers and this was what was reported. Stop being so obviously biased.

Biscuitsformeandyou · 01/06/2025 18:26

YourOnMute · 01/06/2025 18:13

When Israel bombed the grounds of the European hospital and killed the Hamas leader, Sky News ran an article saying that there was nothing there other than drainage pipes or something. You can say at least one hospital etc but you don't actually know.

YourOnMute · 01/06/2025 18:27

I know people say AI will herald a new era, a new revolutionary period, but I think we're missing a trick here.
Surely Hamas could rival AI for its sheer ability to override the laws of time and physics: shape shift (how its soldiers can metamorphise into civilians like women and children), its ability to build and then make three storey bunkers completely disappear with no evidence of it ever existing, have soldier members with sidelines in demanding careers like medicine (or maybe it's the other way round), build hidden infrastructure that remains hidden through carpet bombing, build functioning tanks and then like Star Trek manage to get that tank and it's occupants through various Israeli checkpoints to shoot on people awaiting aid.
Because honestly I don't see how they managed otherwise, if we're expected to believe this.

Complete strawman argument.

And by the way, women can be soldiers.

Nope. I’m reading the UK papers.

That you have declared UK papers as Hamas supporting or simply repeating Hamas propaganda doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Like the woman shot walking holding her baby two days ago?
And nothing is strawman argument..tongue in cheek yes, bold yes.
Claiming that "if it happened, it was probably Hamas" is a complete strawman argument when people were fired from a tank on the Israeli "supported" side. Hamas can wander about willy nilly on tanks??
Claiming "women can be soldiers" is a strawman argument. The huge onus is on Israel to prove such targeted killing is on soldiers. It fails to do this. That's a war crime.
Claiming "you can say one hospital, you just don't know" is a strawman argument because I do know that in at least one hospital bombed by Israel the huge Hamas bunker that was its rationale was not there. When bombing hospitals the huge onus is on Israel to categorically provide irrefutable evidence that it is being used as a military base. It fails to do this to the level required. That's a war crime.

The UK papers were just repeating stuff said by the Hamas run authorities first thing this morning.

Some of them like the BBC are now reporting the incident differently and in a more balanced way. Which is only appropriate seeing as they don't actually know what exactly happened and neither does The Guardian or Sky News etc.

From the BBC updated report: The Israel Defense Forces said initial findings show its forces "did not fire at civilians while they were near or within" the aid centre.

Earlier, the Israel and US backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation issued a strong statement of denial, saying the reports are false and fabricated, and asserted that its distribution of aid had gone ahead without incident.

An Israeli soldier in Rafah contacted the BBC to support this claim, saying that Israeli soldiers did fire near the crowd but not at them and that no one was hit.

Whatever did happen, it is clear that at least one medical facility, the Nasser hospital, received a large number of casualties, with a doctor telling the BBC that many had bullet wounds.

They are reporting on the facts that they can verify, using witness statements, medical personnel, IDF, video footage. They have provided as much information as they can and have suggested evidence so far is inconclusive. They do not get their evidence from Hamas and to suggest it is ignorant and pretty scary, because it means you are happy to ignore anything that comes out of Gaza as Hamas propaganda. Pretty convenient space to be in because it means you will only believe what the IDF report. Which is I exactly what the Israeli government want and why they have banned any independent observers and press.

They cannot verify any facts. That is the reality. Witnesses are making stuff up about tanks, medics are reporting people having been shot (not blown up by tanks?), there is no video footage. So they are just repeating what Hamas said. Why not use the lower number provided by the Palestinian Red Crescent rather than the higher number provided by Hamas? Just nonsense.

There was no tank. That is Hamas fiction.

What hospital are you refering to i.e. Israel bombed but nothing there?

Yes nonsense that we've to rely on Israeli and Hamas propaganda. Independent press needs access so we can all see and trust the reports on what is happening
