It certainly was an awful escalation yes. I don't think anyone here would deny that thankfully.

People are certainly more careful how they word their posts, but some of the links posted would suggest otherwise.

How has it been a bad week for the "But Hamas started everything" point of view? However much stuff you post about wartime atrocities you can never change the fact that Hamas did start this war. There was an uneasy truce before October 7th so I don't see how you can really fail to see that Hamas did start this war.

Equally, Israel do have a right to defend themselves, I would have thought that is unarguable.

Every country has a right to defend itself from massacres though I do agree the IDF have gone too far in their retaliation.

The fact that Israel is winning the war that Hamas started is because of their superior army, defence system, weapons etc. If Hamas had the capability they would do the same or worse to Israel. That is quite clear from what they have already said and done. Hamas insist on hiding out & storing weapons under public buildings like hospitals with the inevitable result that more civilians are killed than if they used different tactics.

What they are doing right now goes way beyond self defence. It’s also intriguing that nobody seems to be asking why the most sophisticated army on the planet did absolutely nothing to defend themselves for several hours while Oct 7th was actually happening and left their citizens to defend themselves. A cynic might wonder if that was an intentional sacrifice made in order to justify the resulting full blown destruction of Gaza once and for all. Much easier to justify if you just sit back and do nothing for few hours letting Hamas murder and abduct your own citizens completely unchallenged.

If only they hadn't 'allowed' hamas (and rather a lot of Gazan civilians) to show the world exactly what happens when they're not constantly on guard.

The women who were raped, should they have been more conservatively dressed too?

I already said in the post you quoted that I agree the IDF have gone too far in their retaliation.

But I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. Yours sounds like a vain attempt to make even the massacre of Israeli citizens sound like Israel’s fault. People who already hate Israel may like the theory because why not? The rest of us file it under crazy.

Do you want the times of Israel report on it? If you think it's not true and Israel didn't really bomb families in tents last night?

Whatsinanamehey · 17/04/2025 08:43

Horrific that this is still happening. Horrific that so many are still silent or attempt to minimise that Palestinians are being bombed in flimsy tents whilst they sleep in the night.

It's been a bad week for the "But Hamas started everything...." and "Israel has a right to defend itself" group. They've received a large dose of reality about how the public really feel about attempting to justify dropping 2000 pound bombs on tents, from both the left and right Worldwide.

Douglas Murray who received an award last year in Israel from president Isaac Herzog for being a good friend to Israel appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast to debate comedian Dave Smith.

Murray in a condescending tone attempted to lecture both Rogan and Smith on not being expert enough to talk about the atrocities being carried out in Palestine.

The comments on the video and across social media reacted negatively to Murray who used strawman arguments to defend atrocities (much like elsewhere). I thank him for introducing millions of Rogan listeners who didn't know about what was happening to researching more. Like him or not Rogan often talks about how he can't watch anymore videos of the atrocities being committed as it's too upsetting.

I don't feel sorry for this chief Neocon Murray who has played a large part in pushing racist Islamaphobic tropes in order to justify intervention in West Asia.

Murray got really bested there with his BA in English language and assertion that you have to be there to comment. I'm no fan of Rogan but Murray went in there from the off all guns blazing after cosplaying on the Gaza border with the IDF thinking he could dominate the debate which he palpably didn't. His reputation in the alt-right has been seriously damaged when he was taken to be one of them with his anti-Islam / anti-woke - fall of the west schtick.

Agreed! It's horrific how the IDF bombs tents again and again with impunity. It's also deeply disturbing how some people find this acceptable.

Nope sorry, the Irish are about as anti-Israel as you can get. Please send me a news report by the BBC. Thanks.

No - just an unbiased report. So not X, not Al Jazeera etc.

I’m not saying one way or another. I have no idea if it happened or not. I’m not there. But I’m not going to believe something just because it’s posted on X? I sure as hell hope you’d be the same..

Nope not anti Israel anti mass murder and massacre by a colonizing force (wonder why?)

Maybe just maybe, we have strong opinions because our media is actually reporting the truth but anyone who gets their news from the Daily Mail probably wouldn't realise that.

What the hell? There has been multiple bombings over night, you think the Palestinians have conjured up the footage? Do you think the BBC report on every single bombing the IDF does every single day??

Whatsinanamehey · 17/04/2025 11:11

It's sick, now that there is an 'unbiased' report, it will be followed up with the usual minimisation and deflection.

It's strange how video evidence isn't enough.

Exactly they started it by kidnapping all those people Israel are just paying them back maybe if they let the hostages go none of this would have continued

Agreed. Now innocent people sre dying on both sides due to Hamas.

The IDF bombed tents of displaced people last night just for the heck of it.

And you agree with a post about "paying them back".

So I’m guessing you feel as strongly about the genocide in Sudan right now? I’m sure you’re talking about it all the time. Right?

My initial post was about not trusting X as a source, and you’re suggesting that’s ok because it’s better than the Daily Mail??

I feel very strongly about the genocide in Sudan. I was reading an article yesterday about the hit by paramilitaries on the last medical facility in Darfur that killed all the medics. Absolutely barbaric, and many parallels to the crisis in Gaza

Nice but of deflection though.

Don't understand the last paragraph I posted a link to an Irish news site which you so rudely rubbished due to internal biases against Ireland. I am not on x.

I don't agree with the paying back wording but with the comment that Israel retaliated in response to Hamas taking hostages who they then murdered, raped or starved. Is that right? I am for all people, the innocent suffering on both sides whether or not they are Palestinian or Israeli. They are all the innocent people suffering. I agreed with the post saying that Hamas are the evil "arny" who reignited the decades long dispute on October 7th. I know it's fashionable to only care about Palestine but I care for all civilians on all sides regardless of their race, creed or religion who are caught up in the horror of wars. I don't pick and choose which side to support.
