Yet again on a thread about tens of thousands of Palestinians being killed by the state of Israel all the talk is about Hamas being to blame. It's so tiresome.

We know what Hamas are to blame for. I'm pretty sure people on these threads are in agreement about Hamas.

But Israel killed these people and in many many cases they did so whilst committing crimes against humanity. So on a thread about these deaths blaming them shouldn't be controversial.

It’s not controversial at all to blame Israel. I think the intensity and scale of their response was far too extreme .
On the other hand I don’t think it should be controversial to point out that Hamas deliberately engineered this conflict and kept the tensions at unbearable levels by holding onto hostages (including many children)

Dulra · 03/02/2025 18:54

You are infantilising Hamas by not holding them accountable for what they've bought upon their own people.
But I haven't done that. I have said Hamas are responsible for triggering the conflict. The Isreali government and the IDF are responsible for how they responded

How do you think they should have responded 🤔

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/02/2025 19:23

The action of the RAF's bomber command in WW2 has come in for much criticism due to the targeted bombing of German civilians. Hitler's actions were undoubtedly responsible for WW2, yet we can still criticise the Allied services for some of their actions in the war.
To excuse the IDF of everything simply 'because Hamas started it' is to my mind wholly unreasonable.
This in no way excuses Hamas's actions on 7th October - but war crimes can be committed by both sides in a war. One does not excuse the other.

Shame on Hamas for bringing this war to their people and utterly failing to provide for their safety before, during and after.

Exactly

Every one of those deaths is on Hamas. Although I suspect they have got exactly what they wanted. They don't care about civilians - Israel cares more about Gazan civilians, hence all the warnings given. It's a war and unfortunately that means deaths but I think the combatant to civilian death rate in Gaza is very low compared to other similar wars.

Every one of those deaths is on Hamas. - Nope

Israel cares more about Gazan civilians - Nope

hence all the warnings given. - as in "all of you move into that corner there so we can shoot more of you at the same time". That warning?

the combatant to civilian death rate in Gaza is very low compared to other similar wars. - This is disgraceful.

No they most definitely are not. They are not being rounded up into cattle trucks and shipped off to extermination camps. Give your head a wobble.

People who compare six million (yes million!)Jewish men women children and babies being systematically slaughtered in most unimaginable circumstances are not the Palestinians of today even when they have been bombed in retaliation for the Hamas atrocities of 7/10, are beyond the pale.

You think the conflict went on this long because of the hostages? Oh dear.

Is that meant to be funny???

If Hamas had handed back the hostages a year ago then far fewer Palestinians would have died. There is no way foreign governments would have supported Netanyahu to continue the war after their return.

There isn't a comparison.

The Jews of Europe were not firing rockets at the Germans, knifing women at bus stops, hurling rocks at German cars.

They were not constantly provoking the Germans in any way.

The Jews were targeted for being Jewish; the Gazans for the provocation of Oct 7th.

Don't conflate the two.

The Israelis used forced starvation as a tactic yes. What's your point?

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats
The historic revisionism visited upon RAF bombing raids etc are really of no use, here.

Nope, merely reminding everyone of a particular strand of propaganda we were all expected to swallow, wholesale, and why we don't believe much of what comes out of Gaza.

Both of these links demonstrate that the IDF has, in some cases at least, attempted to mitigate deaths in Gaza. Not all the blame for civilian deaths in this war can be laid at their feet.

The fact that you would use this article to try and prove that the IDF tried is concerning. I don't even know what to say.

Can I ask if you even read the article?

Shocking figures. 17,881 children killed in 14 months that is 1277 children killed every month. It is horrific. May they rest in peace

It is of little wonder Netanyahu has been charged with crimes against humanity.

Ha, by a kangaroo court.

This. Hamas planned this for years - and totally failed to plan at all to protect Palestinian civilians in the war that the deliberately provoked.

Israel did it. End of.
