Conflict in the Middle East

Pagers and walkie talkies .....audacious and successful strike against terrorists

If a large number of members of Al Quaeda or ISIS were killed with a precise attack I think in the West there would be admiration and indeed satisfaction that such a military success had occurred.

However I am disturbed by the reporting of the targeted neutralization of terrorists within Lebanon with even the main stream press virtually describing those struck as civilians and questioning the legality and morality of this! Have we lost our moral compassess?

There were some unfortunate civil an deaths but given the scale of the strike this was a terrible inevitability. However the civil an to combatant rratio was very small in reality as the explosions were kinky d to a personal zone. Yet when we read the press we allow terrorist propaganda calling the events a massacre of even that trumped up word 'genocide' that people seem to love.

If Osama bin Laden had been brought to a local hospital would we have allowed weeping doctors to lament his injuries? Thought not.

A definition:

"Meaning of collateral damage in English
during a war, the unintentional deaths and injuries of people who are not soldiers, and damage that is caused to their homes, hospitals, schools, etc."

The Israeli accidentally killed 40,000
people? Half of them kids? Let’s not be ridiculous.

Try looking at definitions.

Actually @tupence.....

In a war or conflict people are accidentally killed.

In a terrorist incursion there is no accident. Terrorists set out to purposely kill, as at the kibbutz or festival.

There is a clear definition.

Shooting toddlers in the chest, and then the head for good measure, as witnessed and published by dozens of US and UK doctors is not accidental. That is murder.

Herding a population into a safe zone and then dropping a 2,000lb bomb on it, is not accidental either.

How many more times.

Those deaths sound more like war crimes and need investigating. Collateral damage is more a term for accidentally killing during a war. Hence, terrorist attacks aren't accidental deaths.

Yes, exactly. Mass murder by anyone during a conflict is a war crime.

Those weren't accidental deaths, or unavoidable 'collateral damage', though.

mids2019 · 22/09/2024 18:47

I think for war crimes you can only get some semblance of a truth in a court of law. The first casualty of war is truth and obviously you will get propaganda on both sides.

Main steam media like the BBC aren't reporting incidents such as the deliberate shooting of children as the facts haven't been verified. To start publishing those unverified stories would be bad journalism and we all know it would be in Hamas interests to allow such stories to be distributed.

The BBC and other media does report this. There are journalists on the ground reporting on this. Are you not reading the news?

And to repeat myself from yesterday. There is an international arrest order on Hamas leader as well as Netanyahu for crimes issued by the International Criminal Court.

There!

Tuppence1234 · 22/09/2024 18:55

That should say war crimes

Excuse me?

They are far from unverified.

45 US doctors wrote to congress about it.

BBC isn’t reporting everything verified because it has bias towards non western media and the only journalists inside Gaza are Palestinian journalists because Israel will not allow any journalists to enter Gaza except on tightly controlled tours where all video footage and accompanying texts must pass the IDF military censor.

There have been some reports by the BBC regarding the child deaths in Area A of the West Bank where international journalists were still allowed up until today.

Dr. Mark Perlmutter, an orthopedic surgeon from North Carolina, volunteered in Gaza for several weeks and said the level of "carnage" he saw against civilians, particularly children, was worse than anything he had seen in his 40 mission trips and 30 years of experience. He described seeing "more incinerated children" and "more shredded children" than he had ever seen in his life. He said children were being shot by snipers, with "dead-center shots" to the chest and head, which he said could not have been accidental.
Other American doctors who volunteered in Gaza corroborated Dr. Perlmutter's accounts, describing the situation as a "catastrophe", a "nightmare", and a "hell on Earth". They reported seeing many children with gunshot wounds, including single gunshot wounds to the head on a daily basis. One American doctor said he "didn't believe that this many children could be admitted to a single hospital with gunshot wounds to the head", but confirmed the injuries after reviewing CT scans. Dr. Perlmutter also described the lack of access to food and medical care in Gaza, saying "all" of the children are in danger of starvation.

So tired of this denial of the obvious, over and over

I posted this yesterday.

France controls what can enter turn UK via customs; it's not unusual. If Gaza is its own state as part of a free Palestine then Israel is within its rights to not allow certain foods over the border (especially if it's security is compromised).

After October 7th may be Israel aren't going to be the most willing trade partners ever?

Don’t be ridiculous

I cannot ever see rape as an act of desperation! Never. Attacks on soldiers in the IDF would be termed resistance. Raping women and girls, slaughtering people at a peace festival or a kibbutz, that's not resistance.

Hamas are not resistance fighters when they rape and torture and as owe their own body cams rejoice to their God whilst doing it. That's just disgusting terrorism nothing less, pure evil.

I don't think Israel actually wishes to occupy anywhere, they do wish it's people do be secure though
How do you find peace with terorists? Not like a snake not to bite you

I hope you are just 'limited' mid2019 otherwise you are a major part of the problem as your comments are beyond ignorant of history and current affairs.

Do you not realise 'Israel is illegally occupying land that is not theirs? Do you not recognise the Israeli Government is spreading terror across the Middle East, and bringing us to the brink of war.

There is no excuse for what is going on. You cannot justify the slaughter of innocents because a crime was committed by one group against another. Every citizen of Gaza and beyond is not a combatant, terrorist or criminal. Does the Israeli government actually think their actions will stop terrorist attacks in the future? Common sense tells you that indiscriminate killing of innocent people, the destruction of their hospitals, schools, homes only creates a breeding ground for terrorist revenge.

I've been to Israel, Palestine and Gaza - and the disparity of living conditions appalled me. The black shirted gun toting Israeli youth doing their military service scared the bejesus out of me. The boasting about 'we plan to expand further' reminded me of some weird 'manifest destiny' entitlement.

Enough - it's about time the US and the UK government said 'enough'. Right now it feels they are enabling the Israeli Government in whatever they choose to do.
Not in my name!

"and Israeli soldiers reported doing the same"

Indeed. Those same soldiers praised and supported by actual Knesset ministers no less, and caused a riot when police dared to arrest them.

Here's the masked rapist allegedly being blessed by a rabbi. Hebrew speakers are welcome to counter this or translate.

You are right. They don't want to occupy it, they want to drive Palestinians out and claim it as their own, that's what the ever increasing settlements are all about. I'm not sure that ethnic cleansing is better than occupation though?

In WW1 and WW2 both the allies and the enemies of the allies (the aggressors) had people die that were non combatants.

Edited

Yes that's why they drew up the rules in the aftermath of ww2 to try and prevent it happening again.
