You can find a sanitised version in Western media outlets that replaces the word rape with abuse but this is the ugly truth of how Israeli soldiers treat Palestinians and how some of the Israeli mainstream excuse it.

Israel has a major problem with its far right who are quickly becoming the mainstream and unless it gets control it will continue to sink lower and lower in the eyes of the world losing all moral credibility. To excuse rape and call rapists heroes with some high ranking politicians and media outlets screaming that what these men did was justified. Open your eyes. No god, no religion, no political ideology, no one with a prick of humanity can condone gang rape. But I am sure I will see genocide apologists defending it on here.

The Palestinian man was a civilian who was being held without charge but regardless is shoving a stick up someone * repeatedly so that they lose the ability to walk anything other than savage barbarity. Disgusting.

Thanks for sharing. There are bound to be a lot of ordinary people out there who won’t say anything, for fear of their perceived complicity in the situation. This stood out to me…

“It takes time to digest things. The more distance I have from the place, the more my eyes have opened up. What most disturbed me was to see how easily and how quickly ordinary people can disconnect themselves and not see the reality right in front of their eyes, when they’re in the midst of a shocking human situation.”

Yes, I agree that what this person says it stands out, and conveys an important message too. We must all remember how easily we could all become part of something dreadful through the disconnection he/she mentions even though we would think it impossible.

Unfortunately I’m not sure many people want to learn that lesson, it’s too comforting to believe there is something completely other about the people who behave this way, which sets them apart from the decent folk. It’s easier than looking into your own soul, and being aware of how you might be led down a dark path if the conditions were right. Then, if you do end up down that path, it’s much easier to believe it was justified, or moral, than to accept what you have done. I don’t know what the answer is.

Channel 4 news tonight had a long report about the sexual abuse and general abuse, of Palestinian detainees/prisoners in Israeli prisons. Because of this thread and others we already know some of these details, but even so it was a shock to see it laid out, and to hear interviews.

It should be available later tonight on Channel 4 On Demand

Haaretz

ISRAEL: The IDF's chief prosecutor said that five reserve soldiers are accused of severely abusing a Hamas police officer arrested in Gaza and taken to the Sde Teiman detention center. Israel's military court extended their house arrest by two weeks, determining that there was reasonable grounds to do so after reviewing material from the investigation.

That refers to this,

Israeli Army Prosecutor: Sde Teiman Soldiers Beat, Tased, Sodomized Gaza Detainee

The five IDF soldiers arrested last month are accused of severely abusing a Palestinian detainee. The military prosecutor had requested they remain under house arrest for an additional two weeks.

House arrest.

FFS.

😭😢 It's so horrible. Please boycott everyone at the very least!

I suspect the prosecutor is scared of getting lynched themselves.

House arrest for an additional two weeks? Wow.

Scirocco · 28/08/2024 23:19

That's disgusting. I wish I could say I was surprised.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/08/2024 23:23

Also the use of language; instead of police officer , a hamas police officer. Its loaded. Just disgusting, vile, incomprehensible that a group of people is defending rape.

TheOnlyCherryOnMyTree · 28/08/2024 23:25

The article also mentions The same INSS poll on Sunday also revealed that 47 percent of Israeli Jews believed Israel should not obey international law during the course of the current war in Gaza.

It's all just so grim. It's such a pity that their Western allies have no conscience either, it's hard to see how this can ever end in anything but further misery for Palestinians.

Pretty questionable society that would tolerate this. As I said before it doesn't bode well for anyone in Israel if their laws make allowances for who is doing the raping and who is being raped

Really? Propaganda from Press TV, the IR owned broadcaster is the only information you could find and considered a credible source worth posting? This is really quite concerning.

Overall we rate Press TV Questionable based on the promotion of Iranian Propaganda and Conspiracies related to the West and poor sourcing and the publication of fake news.

Press TV has such a bad reputation for publishing/reporting questionable Press TV has such a bad reputation for publishing/reporting questionable content that a Wiki page is titled “Press TV Controversies,” highlighting the many times they have made antisemitic and false claims.

The fete-ing of this man on 14 Channel Israeli TV has been all over Twitter for a few days - so if you don't approve of Press Tv there's plenty of other sources for the story if you care to look

RoastSquash · 01/09/2024 12:12

Indeed, I'm aware of that. I'm questioning why @EasterIssland chose to post highly questionable IRI propaganda over other sources.

So the content doesn't bother you or warrant an opinion just the source 🙄

I’m questioning why this is what’s bothering you the most, as opposed to the normalisation (to the point of cerebration) of an entire society’s moral bankruptcy. Find a news outlet that works for you. Read it and weep.

I mean, I’ll paraphrase, but here’s the gist of it:

”Sir, please share with us your path to becoming a war hero.”

”Well, I’ll try and be modest about it but… my heroic path started with the anal rape of a Palestinian prisoner.”

Rapturous applause for the son every mother would wish for. 🙄

It's a fact that this man appeared on 14 Channel TV upsetting many people in Israel and further afield

It's not highly questionable IRI propaganda

14 Channel TV is the equivalent of Fox News in Israel

.

Obviously the content bothers me and warrants an opinion (I hope these men are prosecuted to the full extent of the law and then some) otherwise I wouldn't be reading this thread.

It's also really, really important that people don't platform racist, propagandist, extremist mouthpieces of oppressive regimes (ranked 170th out of 180 for press freedom by Reporters Without Borders) to amplify hostility and conflict. Attempts to spread and legitimise harmful propaganda and disinformation sites (from any sides or source) should bother everyone.

@SerenityNowInsanityLater Declaring that the depraved actions of some bad men establishes the moral bankruptcy of an entire society is exactly what the propagandists would like people to think and say, so job done. Would you say that the depraved actions of another group of bad men and the celebratory narrative about that means their entire society is also morally bankrupt? I doubt it.

Yes, I know. It's therefore entirely possible to discuss it without the IRI propaganda and tropey slant of the complete moral bankruptcy of "the Zionists". I'm not really sure why you're still banging on about this tbh.

It was one of the first ones I found about this. Seems like in this scenario it’s credible as it did happen.

I posted it because I find outrageous that someone that has taken part on a rape appears in tv and is glorified for it.

now, what I posted. Is this propaganda or something that has happened? Shall we continue shooting at the messenger and derailing the thread or focus on the thread and the actions of these men and how they’re being welcomed by some part of the Israeli citizens ?

In a democratic society the government and military represent a nations society and set the tone for it, this man has not been punished for his crime if you have evidence of a backlash in Israeli society to this I would love if you could share it. I posted earlier on this thread that I did not believe there was none so rather than criticise us for commenting on the propaganda point us to the dissent
