It appears Jews are not safe in the UK at all.

Can we seriously look at the impact of anti semitism now?

Police at the home of one of the men arrested over an alleged terror plot

Three in court over alleged plan to attack Jewish community

Three men are accused of planning a gun attack on the Jewish community in North-West England.

What I find absolutely disguising is that when 9/11 happened, there were some attacks and blame on ordinary Muslims - and no one, NO ONE in their right mind told them, quite rightly, that they should only be safe if they denounce radical Islam. All sane people rallied to protect their Muslim fellow citizens, there were no discussion. What I see now, is that ordinary Jews are NOT protected. They are, basically, alone. No one feels like they want to defend them - unless they do this, that, denounce Zionism (btw - wtf is wrong for a nation or oppressed people to settle and have their own country? Would you condemn Palestinians for wanting to have a country? Or any other oppressed nation?).
Its like everyone hated them anyway and now they have a reason not to hide it. I fucking hate it, and I'm absolutely terrified of where it might go.

I'm not Jewish btw but I came from an Eastern European country and I grew up knowing what happened to Jewish population in the city I grew up in. Nazi Germans killed them, very calmly and methodically, in an organised and well planned manner - unarmed women, kids, adults. Everyone. Over 30,000 people in total in two days period. Shot, and then buried, in layers, witnesses said ground used to move for days after as not all people where dead when they were buried. Even writing it makes me cry. Would you question, after reading this, why Jewish people want to have their own country, and why they want to defend it with all their might?

Thank you and yes. Those on the left rightly condemned people hassling British Muslims to condemn 9/11 and it's a slap in the face to see those same people on the left demanding the same of British Jews and dismissing Jewish voices unless they say the "right thing" on Gaza.

'The hearing was told the pair were accused of plotting an attack designed to cause "multiple fatalities using automatic weapons".

Prosecutor Rebecca Waller said the alleged plan had been inspired by the Islamic State group.'

Awful.

I would like to add - unless you hold extreme, radical views that go against the laws of this country, you should be free and safe regardless of the political onions you subscribe to. This applies to everyone.

I totally agree.
everyone should be safe from hate speech here.
this is why I’m so fearful for our country.
the Muslims in British mosques are no more to blame for 9/11 as the Jewish people worshipping in our synagogues to blame for Israel government.

The world antisemitism gets thrown about constantly

Another one for the bingo card everybody

It’s a shame that these people are incapable of reflecting why the term anti-semitism comes up so consistently.

Marjoriefrobisher · 16/05/2024 20:00

YaMuvva · 16/05/2024 00:58

Way to make a thread about the threat on Jewish population about you. How uncharacteristic for Pro-Palestinian supporters.

I mean words must hurt if you’re 5 years old but Jewish people are facing a real, violent threat. Do you have any idea how terrifying it is for Jewish people in the U.K. right now?

This behaviour is very typical. Everyone must hear - endlessly, constantly - from me about my very enlightened and humane views. And any dissent will be taken as personal attack.
Aside from the anti semitism, it’s the narcissism of so many of participants that makes these marches so repellent to me.

It’s a shame that these people are incapable of reflecting why the term anti-semitism comes up so consistently.

I believe that the word antisemitism is used more frequently because of a real rise in hate towards Jewish people, but unfortunately also because it is used as a
way of shutting down criticism of Israel (I mean the government when I say this).

It’s a shame that in among the very real concerns about the rise in antisemitism there are less honourable people who will muddy the waters by using this word when it doesn’t apply.

Itsabeautufulday · 16/05/2024 20:11

Wow mumsnet, this is a thread about the Jewish community under threat in the UK.

Foiled terrorist attack in the UK on Jewish people who live on the UK and probably other people around also killed. Major for security in this country. This is not acceptable at all. Fortunately, they have been arrested and hopefully will be locked away for the safety of all.

The antisemitism, the what about the ...., the ridiculousness. Where's the care and concern for members of OUR society (this is a UK website, so predominantly UK mn?). It feels like a race to the bottom on here.

Hélène79 · 16/05/2024 20:18

@localnotail Thank you for your post.

Itsabeautufulday · 16/05/2024 20:21

Polka83 · 16/05/2024 08:57

That really depends on whether you think extra judicial killing of innocent Palestinians in the West Bank as terrorism. Or the violence against Palestinians in the West Bank at the hands of Jewish settlers. This must terrify Palestinians in the West Bank. Imagine sending your child to school in the current hostile climate in the West Bank.

There are now thousands of threads about gaza.

How about you allow people to discuss a foiled terrorist plot here in the UK and go post elsewhere.

Are UK Jewish people not allowed this thread. Go wobble your brain a bit.

It's a shame that people will appear on a thread about an actual planned antisemitic attack to go on about how loads of Jews can't be trusted to say what is antisemitic.

Itsabeautufulday · 16/05/2024 20:26

Doveytail · 16/05/2024 09:53

Yes they aren’t the only people being killed , does that mean we just sit back and allow it?

Palestinians are not just Muslims.
The rate at which the murder and genocide is being conducted is unprecedented as quoted by Amnesty international and the UN, which is what makes it different to other conflicts.

My tax money is being used to fund this genocide I have right to protest - I don’t want my money being used to murder children.

I disagreed with the view that people protesting this genocide are sheep - or joining protests because they are antisemitic.
I have seen people from all walks of life at the protests including many Jews.

This doesn’t take away from the the fact that there has been a rise in antisemitism and Jews are feeling unsafe.

No you don't have to sit back and forget them. You do need to post on other threads about them and leave this thread to it's topic. There are plenty of threads gor you to post on.

Are people not allowed to discuss the worries of Jewish people in the UK. Every thread about the worries of ordinary Jewish people is overrun with whataboutery, anti semitism and derailment

Hélène79 · 16/05/2024 20:27

There's always a 'but'. Always. If this attack had been successful with many fatalities, posters would still be jumping on here with the 'cant's say anything these days,' 'the word antisemitism is meaningless now', 'but Gaza' caveats. It's disgusting.

The claim that allegations of anti semitism are used to shut down criticism of Israel are tediously ubiquitous but never supported by any evidence of actual instances of this.
If one wanted to be as boring as the people making this claim, one might say that claims that allegations of anti semitism are used to silence criticism of Israel are used to silence criticism of anti semitism.
and so it goes on. Ultimately you have to deal with the fact that really flagrant demonstrations of anti semitism are now associated with your cause. And people draw inferences from that. Scream all you want but you can’t stop that.

There's been another London incident now:

So much ignorance and hatred.

I would not have seen or said this in my 20's or 30's.

This is my experience. I have also changed my mind on this.

The UN has issued more resolutions against Israel, than all other member states combined - including Iran, North Korea, Russia, Sudan etc.

Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, the only place in the Middle East where you can be a gay Muslim, living openly, is the place that has received the most human rights condemnations compared to any other country in the Middle East, or even the world.

Something isn’t quite right about that.

This.

I stand by what I wrote and if you care to look you will find evidence.

I’m not going to discuss this any further as you are not open to seeing this as a factor and I don’t want to get into a disagreement. This might detract from those who feel genuinely scared or have suffered hate, from being able to have supportive conversations.

You say something like 'this placard of a Jewish baby being fed the blood of Palestinian children is antisemitic' and someone will say 'oh, so I'm antisemitic because I don't support Israel then?'.

It has become quite tedious, the assumption that any discussion of antisemitism isn't about genuine antisemitism but merely criticism of Israel.

It doesn't help that some people wouldn't recognise antisemitism if it smacked them in the face.
