Conflict in the Middle East
EmpressOfTheThread · 07/05/2024 05:21

It's being done in their name?
Their descendants are committing a genocide?
Neither of those claims makes any sense. Most people are horrified by the war in Gaza but we all know that it was triggered by the attacks on Oct 7th, not the Holocaust.
It's also a strange logic to blame victims of an atrocity for anything, key alone what their descendants may do some 70+ years after their death.

let alone, sorry - too late to edit

For anyone looking, here is a good example of someone claiming to be anti-Israel quickly showing that their sentiments are actually anti-Semitic.

The idea that Israelis are all descendant of Holocaust survivors is obviously absurd. Israelis are not all European 🙄 The idea that every Israeli is even Jewish is just 🤯 But when someone so clearly conflates Israel and Jews and says descendants of Holocaust survivors are committing genocide, it's just purely antisemitism. It's so ingrained that they don't even realise they're saying something anti-Semitic. And no doubt this poster will now be receiving support from other posters either saying the comment isn't anti-Semitic or saying "they actually meant XYZ" but in reality, this poster has made anti-Semitic comments. There is no excuse for it. No, Israel is not doing anything in the names of Holocaust survivors. No, it's not descendants of Holocaust survivors doing anything. You're making anti-Semitic comments. Hopefully you'll take this opportunity to learn and do better in the future.

And then obviously there's the biased and hateful wording about Israel "deciding to commence this onslaught during the remembrance weekend". That's not quite what happened, is it? Hamas fired rockets from Rafah the day before the remembrance day for Jewish Holocaust victims. Israel fired back at the launch site. Israel didn't choose the day or location. But I guess when someone hates those pesky descendants of Holocaust survivors this much, facts don't really matter.

No doubt my comment will be the one that gets deleted for hurting the other posters feelings by pointing out that they're making anti-Semitic comments, but facts are facts. Anti-Semitism shouldn't go unchallenged.

Thank you, @Humdingerydoo
There's so much ignorance about this whole situation, and myths get perpetuated.

Comedycook · 07/05/2024 07:30

but I'd say joining a protest in memory of holocaust victims while their descendants commit a genocide

My grandmother is a holocaust survivor. I had no idea I was responsible for the situation in Gaza. 🤔

Utterly disgusting. Conflating Jews with the Israeli army & government. Fuck all to do with zionism. Text book antisemitism & grotesque behaviour.

This.

No wonder why people don't support marches, tent protests etc.

Thank you for this. I'd been trying to formulate a polite reply to that post and failing. So offensive.

datcherygrateful · 07/05/2024 08:12

That's disgusting
I'm Palestinian, and that I am disgusted by this.
Cruel and abhorrent.
I am sorry

datcherygrateful · 07/05/2024 08:24

This is antisemitism pure and simple. How awful
And how disgusting to parade around saying that they are pro Palestinian. I am disgusted by it.
Why are things mutually exclusive?
Why can't people respect the memory of the victims of the Holocaust AND advocate for peace for Palestinians?
I don't want the momentum of support for Palestinians to slow down tbh @Livelovebehappy as Palestinians in the WB and Jerusalem will be forgotten and the cycle continues- but a line has been crossed here and I am sorry that some nut jobs have hijacked the cause and flag to show their true colours.
I would like to believe that many protesting are protesting to end the killing in Gaza, bring back the hostages and end the occupation aka freeing Palestinians.

@Humdingerydoo

Thank you for your post

I've not replied to that poster because I have had several deletions for some abstract infraction of talk guidelines and don't want to be suspended

Their posts are abhorrent

noblegiraffe · 07/05/2024 08:33

When that poster claimed upthread that they had posts being deleted for antisemitism that were actually perfectly fine, I’m now sure that they are not the best person to judge this.

Humdingerydoo · 07/05/2024 08:34

@datcherygrateful thank you for your solidarity and for proving you don't need to be anti-Semitic to support Palestinians. I know life is beyond difficult for so many Palestinians outside of Gaza too. Let's hope for a peaceful resolution to all of it soon.

You posted an example of anti semitism that MN haven't removed.

Whatever is happening in Gaza...there is no excuse for protesting by Auschwitz especially on holocaust memorial day. The sheet disrespect to the victims and survivors is off the scale.

You seem to be under the false impression that only European Jews have been persecuted in more recent times. A Jewish homeland is needed because Jews have been persecuted and expelled from everywhere else. Both in the distant and recent past.

I didn't realise we had to be murdered en masse in order for people to care about the wellbeing of Jews. Here I was, foolishly thinking we could all agree that anti-Semitism was bad. But no. Apparently Jews don't matter. What other minorities don't matter to you? Or is it just Jews you are ok with being racist towards?

You're really not making yourself look very good.

Anti-semitism is never ok. It's ok to say that and also want Palestinians not to be killed.

25milesfromhome · 07/05/2024 09:09

"I'd punch a Nazi" antisemites are my least favourite kind of antisemite.

So you wish to be able to comment on threads with no one responding to you? And if they do, they are apparently 'following' you. You also call people vile.

Righto

@Comedycook I'm talking to @25milesfromhome @Humdingerydoo and the 3 others that follow me from thread to thread responding to my comments

You consistently follow Jewish posters around targeting threads about antisemitism and Jews, which are guaranteed to have a higher than average number of Jewish posters on them. To the point of coming to the Jewish MNers board to carry on telling Jews what is and isn’t antisemitism. Post what you like where you like, don’t expect your bigotry to go unchallenged.
