"A mother in #Gaza awakens to the Israeli army bombing her home, only to discover that ALL her children, including the twin who hadn't yet lived half the days of this war, have been killed !!

She now stands as the sole survivor in her family – if we can even call it “survival”"

This has absolutely broken me today.

Oh my goodness, that poor woman. The baby is so very tiny. No mother should have to tuck in their children like this. I don't really know what to say anymore.Far too many little lives lost 💔

If only this genocidal Israeli government listened to some of its citizens who value Israeli and Palestinian lives more than their hateful government does:

Not genocidal. Maybe you could use another pejorative adjective here? Thanks.

EasterIssland · 11/05/2024 18:33

Please don’t use the word genocide. They’ve only killed 40k people, many of them tortured or buried alive or taken out of hospitals to be killed.

they’ve only injured 100k people
they’ve only destroyed 70% of the buildings
they’ve only destroyed hospitals , universities etc

they’ve got people in inhumane conditions in detention camps.

Probably we need a new word for it.

Disproportionate use of force against a group of people, limiting supplies to a group of people, asking a group of people to move when it is not safe, destroying infrastructure like hospitals and schools….. I am going to stick to the term genocide.

The ICC said a genocide was plausible. Call me naive but if it wasn’t for US or UK influence it would be labelled as a genocide.

The Turks also committed a genocide against Armenians many years ago and used some of the same defence as the Israeli government but that too was a genocide….sadly history has many examples of genocides that for some people it is clear cut and for others there’s some ummm’ing and ahhhhh’ing and deflecting rather than admitting.

ICJ said 'at least some of the rights claimed by South Africa and for which it is seeking protection are plausible', including 'the right of the Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide and related prohibited acts'

That does not translate as this = genocide.

The attitude and behaviours of Hamas appear a lot more like genocide - they want to obliterate Israel and Jewish people, you know.

Both Hamas and the current Israeli government use terms like from the river to the sea which can be seen as genocide in intentions.

Israeli government forces chanting “Destroy Rafah” for me is intention of genocide.

I deplore Hamas and their actions from
October. I also deplore the Israeli government and it’s supporters who are hell bent on using the terrorist actions from October to kill as many Palestinians as possible. It’s clear that after they have killed as many as possible we will see an increase in settlements on Israeli land.

All actions and efforts should be putting to getting the fascist Israeli government to change course. Sadly this will not happen as most of the moderates within Israel are over the age of 60 and most of the right wing fascists are in their 20s…..the future of Palestinians - those who are not “accidentally” murdered in this “non genocide” is well and truly bleak.

What good words he spoke. If I have remembered correctly he said,
“We are going to achieve a just
Israel-Palestine peace because this is what we all deserve.”

He keeps using the term Israel - Palestine.

I hope they can prevail with their demand to the government for a release of the hostages and a ceasefire.

It's hard to know where to start with your analogy. Running over a neighbours dog? Good grief.

@Scirocco has explained for me.
But maybe you would like further clarification.
The Israeli government is in charge of Israel- it’s a defined entity elected into power democratically . It’s not some random association of terrorist groups or crazy individuals with overlapping aims and objectives. It has agreed a shared policy and this government is responsible for the consequences of its policies.

It is well documented that the defence minister has referred to the Palestinians as “animals”. His defenders say he only meant Hamas, not civilians but the actions of the government show otherwise. In fact animals would be treated with more respect- even in abattoirs where animals are killed deliberately, measures to reduce suffering and promote dignity are taken.

The defence minister’s comments did not occur in isolation or on the spur of the moment, they were said against a background of similar comments from multiple individuals over a long period of time-“beasts”, “rats” , “lice”,
“dogs”. I won’t go on for risk causing further offence which I regret as my earlier post was very insensitive to the victims. However ,the list includes a virtual menagerie of hate speech comparing Palestinians to various animals over the years.

There is a longstanding pattern of right wing Israeli comments comparing Palestinians to animals. This indicates that there is toleration of a cultural attitude that Palestinians can be regarded as subhuman, that their lives are of lesser value than Israeli lives and that they are essentially disposable in order to achieve the government objectives.

The impact of the current IDF actions on the civilian population is either
(a) intentional in that they are either the primary or subsidiary / secondary target or
(b) accidental or unintentionally affected.

If it is (a), this demonstrates genocidal intent.

If it is (b) one would expect proportionate evidence of remorse and measures to mitigate the impact and compensate those who are affected.

We do not see the latter so can conclude that this absence of expressof remorse is evidence of genocidal intent.

On Channel 4 News just now I saw extremely shocking scenes of Israeli settlers intentionally destroying aid parcels intended for the wretched people in Gaza.

Yeah I saw it too. It's a disgrace, why are the government not doing more to stop it? Even the US have harsh words for this behaviour

ScrollingLeaves · 13/05/2024 22:22

I had missed some of Channel 4 News so have been catching up.

The settlers who are stopping food and other aid from getting to starving, displaced and traumatised people was disturbing enough. 17:20 mins in

But they showed something just so like a nightmare that you realise we sit here thinking we know people in Gaza are being killed by Israeli bombs while not knowing anything of the reality whatsoever.

13:40 mins in: The digging out of a five year old girl who is alive under rubble, her head wedged under slabs of concrete, but by a miracle not crushed. She is crying for her mother. Her mother and sisters are dead but she doesn’t know. Her head is covered in blood.

You realise too there are others probably like her also alive, pinned down by huge weights, but in their case never found. How long does it take them to die? This is not a tragic earthquake but man-made.

I have the impression they are stupid thugs. These are the people most probably think of when they refer disparagingly about Zionists ( even if that is a misunderstanding).

As for not allowing aid so long as Hamas holds hostages, how do they think the hostages are getting fed if not by Hamas? Those hostages who were released have all spoken of how hungry they were as it is.

How do they think America will continue to support Israel if they get too annoyed with these people blocking aid?

They are bringing shame on Israel when a great many Israelis must be completely unlike them.

Sumthingsweet · 14/05/2024 00:35

emptying aid truck no funny how that’s not been reported on the news

EasterIssland · 14/05/2024 08:44

I saw something on Twitter reported by Jerusalem post a few days ago about the numbers of women and children killed had been halved. There were many comments explaining why this didn’t mean that less people had been killed.

https://amp.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/13/gaza-ministry-revises-figures-for-women-and-children-killed

Remember the sheer glee lots of posters portrayed on here and all over the internet when it became clear that "only" 800 dead Israelis on 7th October were civilians and the rest were police or military personnel on? All the mocking. All the memes. Well, it turns out there are fewer civilians and more terrorists dead in Gaza. So if the distinction mattered in October, why doesn't it matter now?

i don’t think that’s what UN is saying.

UN is saying
corpses in total 35k
identified 25k.

“The ministry of health says that the documentation process of fully identifying details of the casualties is ongoing,” he added. Meanwhile … there’s about another 10,000-plus bodies who still have to be fully identified.”
The overall number of fatalities [was] tallied by the ministry of health in Gaza, which is our counterpart on dealing with the death tolls. That number remains unchanged, and it’s more than 35,000 people since October” Haq said, noting that the UN was not in a position to verify any of the figures. “What’s changed is the ministry of health in Gaza has updated the breakdown of fatalities, for whom full details have been documented.”

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 09:21

@Humdingerydoo I was on here and I don't remember seeing any memes mocking the dead😱
Also who said it doesn't matter
