not directly related with the forum but related with Israel’s governments actions.
im in a member of Spanish forum(similar idea to mumsnet, it’s has a political section which I don’t visit but apart from that nothing related with politics) . Once I month I get targeted with Israel’s governments ads. Why does Israel have the need to pay for all these ads ? Why target me when clearly I’m not buying their propaganda? Has anyone else came across Israel governments ads ?

I don't get these ads thankfully but the fact that they exist makes me cringe.

Their propaganda is so ridiculous. It's embarrassing.

I see these kinds of ads too, maybe when accessing local news sites. They are always so sensationalised, like pseudo news. Very tacky.

TheABC · 09/07/2024 13:47

The images and news coming out of Gaza are sickening.
Two months ago, the world was warned that the territory was on the brink of famine: nothing has been done to change that. I keep waiting for news there is more aid flowing through, a new crossing...nothing.

I am glad Hamas is open to peace talks, but Israel appear to be in thrall to the right-wing Government groups and they are not listening to anyone.

Is more aid getting in now?

I'm hopeful for peace talks soon. Hostage release and negotiations on how to move forward.

The Israeli government has spent millions on "reputation management", these ads are a part of that.

I remember parents getting upset earlier in this conflict as ads like this were run on YouTube kids:
https://x.com/Lowkey0nline/status/1712446982403342616

The ads are part of the larger Hasbara Toolbox used to promote Israel's image to the outside world. Though they are garish, arrogant in that they presume the target is misinformed. They also operate via fear and emotional manipulation.

That is awful. And so, so insensitive. Just think how many older children who can read will see those things, and how many people grieving the loss of loved ones in Palestine.

I got this one when I was watching Ms Rachel with my baby a few months back.

Given that they've killed thousands of children they have some brass neck running that ad.

BelleHathor · 09/07/2024 19:44

@ConnieCounter and @Scirocco it's absolutely shocking and points to a failure from the YouTube team (and the 3rd party adspace selling companies they use) as well, who should have vetted the adverts as YouTube Kids is rightly meant to be severely restricted. Though I can't even imagine the thought process of the marketing team that thought serving an ad like that to Children would be a PR win.

anotherlevel · 09/07/2024 20:32

@BelleHathor that's just not on, not every child can't read. There are plenty that can! Can the ads be reported?

ConnieCounter · 09/07/2024 20:43

Also Ms Rachel was getting bullied online for making posts that sympathised with children in Gaza. Imagine being such a psycho that you bully someone online for that.

EasterIssland · 09/07/2024 20:47

Seems to be the day today that I’m being targeted by the Israeli government. Reading the Spanish news about the Eurocope match between Spain and France and I’m being targeted with an ad from this account as well.

in my experience I’m seeing them in the Spanish websites mainly

ps sorry for the derailment op tho I guess it’s still something related with the topic. Israel’s governments trying to influence and control the opinion with its propaganda.

I've never seen any ads like that. I think ads are more to do with your search history rather than the website you are on. My friend used to work in this area and it is linked to your personal algorithms. We could both be on the same web page and see different ads.

(PS my house are all cheering for Espana)

The thing is apart from checking times of Israel when trying to post something for here I barely read anything pro Israel. Most of my reading is twitter/ bbc / guardian and Spanish news and most of it will be pro Palestine related so really I’m not the person the Israel government is going to convince.

ps. In my house we don’t care much :) but I’m quite glad most of the goals are by footballers the far right hates.

It happened early on after October 7th. Parents who noticed it rightly kicked up a storm on social media, I haven't heard of any ads targeting kids since then so hopefully YouTube removed them, though it wasn't the only targeting of Children in the immediate aftermath, which points to it being a rogue 3rd party company:

Kids ‘shaken’ after disturbing footage pops up in video game

A terrifying message appears in all capitals.

I'm seeing ads for nicotine replacements and I don't smoke and have never goggled them. I don't consider it sinister.

I also notice how much stereotyping and assuming and making things up that some do. Why would far right hate Spanish footballers. Strange.

It’s the fact that the Israeli government is paying for propaganda abroad with many of their lies what annoys me. I can’t remember any government targeting me with their ads post a terrorist attack

I know why would far right hate their footballers. Yet you find them not liking some of the ones playing for Spain or England. seems to be a problem with far right in many countries. Strange

Just read the article. "television last Wednesday, has been roundly criticised for its inclusion of a poll in which 1,304 respondents were asked whether they agreed with the statement: “I would prefer it if more white players played in the German national team again.” (To which 21% agreed, 65% disagreed.)
It was, according to Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, a “shitty survey”. The vice-captain, Joshua Kimmich, described it as racist."

Some people are racist, some are fascist, some support terrorists, this assuming because 21% of a group of 1304 respondents to a survey are, means lots are, is another divisive story. So many attempts to divide society. Its a bit sad. Clearly most Germans aren't far right. Constant negative stereotyping does no-one any good.

Nowhere did I say that most Germans were far right.

Factsareimportantplease · 10/07/2024 08:17

No but you brought in the suggestion ". In my house we don’t care much :) but I’m quite glad most of the goals are by footballers the far right hates.".

You then shared a story about a small group of Germans who wanted more white people in their team. The message is there intertwined why do that? What point apart from division? Isn't there enough of that already. Its all implications and comments. The German football team described it as a shitty survey. It's implications in general comments, then stories of a very small number, etc etc etc.
