i don’t think that’s what UN is saying.

UN is saying
corpses in total 35k
identified 25k.

“The ministry of health says that the documentation process of fully identifying details of the casualties is ongoing,” he added. Meanwhile … there’s about another 10,000-plus bodies who still have to be fully identified.”
The overall number of fatalities [was] tallied by the ministry of health in Gaza, which is our counterpart on dealing with the death tolls. That number remains unchanged, and it’s more than 35,000 people since October” Haq said, noting that the UN was not in a position to verify any of the figures. “What’s changed is the ministry of health in Gaza has updated the breakdown of fatalities, for whom full details have been documented.”

The number of dead women and children has been significantly reduced. Look up the actual report.

Obviously still far, far too many innocent casualties. But it does indicate that Hamas has been lying.

But honestly, this isn't something I'm comfortable to continue talking about as people aren't numbers. I just didn't want you spreading incomplete information

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 09:21

@Humdingerydoo I was on here and I don't remember seeing any memes mocking the dead😱
Also who said it doesn't matter

I didn't see it either - unpleasant and meaningless hyperbole

Also didn't see it on the wider internet as the algorithm doesn't offer up this sort of stuff because of who I follow

Do you not? Lots of links to twitter etc with absolutely vile content. And also, you were the one who complained about me mentioning the numbers changing the other day. But as I said, I'm not going to discuss this anymore as people aren't numbers and it feels a bit gross to talk about them as though they are. I'm sure you agree!

anotherlevel · 14/05/2024 09:26

@Humdingerydoo I was here too and I'm pretty sure there weren't any memes mocking the dead or posters gleefully doing so.

I don’t dispute it’s been halved. Because before they were counting non identified + identified and now identified only. There are still 10k bodies to be identified.

Humdingerydoo · 14/05/2024 09:30

Are we seriously pretending there was no gleeful mocking?? "See how many of these names start with Pvt or cpl" etc etc and then laughing emojis and comments about Zionist conspiracies? I swear, it often feels like I live in an alternative universe to a lot of you.

That 10k is separate from the 35000. It's the ratios within the 35000 that has changed so it turns out a lot more of them were men than previously suggested.

From the news I’ve linked

They showed 24,686 dead which appeared to be a downward revision from the figure of about 35,000 which had been reported earlier in May, with 7,797 children and 4,959 women confirmed dead, about half the toll cited in previous reports. But the UN said on Monday that estimated overall death toll remained about 35,000.

The overall number of fatalities [was] tallied by the ministry of health in Gaza, which is our counterpart on dealing with the death tolls. That number remains unchanged, and it’s more than 35,000 people since October

___
so no, the numbers haven’t changed. 25k identified . 35 k in total

No I'm being serious I really didn't. Although ofcourse I'm not saying that just because I didn't that it didn't happen and I have no idea what pvt is

I'd be interested to see just one such post

But @Humdingerydoo doesn't want to talk about it now - most likely because they can't substantiate it

Government minister rallies people to join a march to push for new Israeli settlements in Gaza.

I think the level of antisemitism seen will obviously depend on the spaces that you frequent, which is why some of us don’t see a lot of it.

I don’t remember seeing this on Mumsnet. Did they target the Jewish board? Or specific threads?

No, that's not the topic I'm not wanting to discuss, I'm not wanting to keep discussing the amount of dead Palestinians. I thought it was all part of one conversation but it seems there are now two separate conversations.

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 09:36

And it's not just a tiny fringe minority who are pushing who are outrageously pushing for the construction of settlements in Gaza

This January, he was one of 11 government ministers and 15 coalition lawmakers who attended a mass conference advocating the rebuilding of Jewish Israeli settlements in the heart of the Gaza Strip.

SplitFountainPen · 14/05/2024 09:38

Why on earth are neighbouring countries not taking people in like Europe did with Ukraine?
There's enough money in certain countries to manage it. Its absolutely disgusting, especially when some of those countries are probably far more behind pushing and funding hamas than palestine was.

These kind of things were linked to multiple times on this board, but mostly on twitter. I don't have twitter so can't search through it to find exact ones. Can only see a tweet if I click on a direct link. It was all mocking and full of absolutely revolting comments, and people on here agreeing with those posting on Twitter.

So can you show me just one of these 'gleeful* posts on MN and prove me wrong?

I've linked above to the kind of thing that was posted, but it was screenshots and tweets rather than Reddit.

I don't understand, are you expecting me to have this all saved somewhere on my computer or something? Or for me to be able to trawl through every single comment made on this board, and to do it all in a matter of minutes?

I can wait

If these 'gleeful' comments were as common as you say and made such an impression on you they won't be difficult for you to find?

Not sure.

Poland gave shelter to over 5 million Ukraine people. Many returned later although lots haven't and hope to return one day. Other countries surrounding Ukraine offered homes to others.

Israel are not letting people leave. It took months and months for Ireland to be able to help get an Irish citizen home. I think it was only at the end of last month he finally got back here, the Irish government had been trying to help him back since October but Israel would not issue him a permit to leave. That is a man with a foreign passport who had the help of his government. Unless you have a lot of money and connections there is no way out so ordinary Palestinians are trapped.
