This poor baby will die if they don't let her and her father leave Gaza. Devastating.

@Scirocco I am so sorry to learn your friends are missing. There is a very long article today in the New York Times about detention of civilians and how they disappear for months so we can only pray they will be found

PeasfullPerson · 06/06/2024 21:53

I don’t really know what to say anymore @Scirocco May all this cruelty end soon.

More about this camp. New York Times is under paywall
https://indianexpress.com/article/world/israel-palestina-detained-gaza-9375962/lite/

from new York times

Mr. al-Hamlawi, the senior nurse, said a female officer had ordered two soldiers to lift him up and press his rectum against a metal stick that was fixed to the ground. Mr. al-Hamlawi said the stick penetrated his rectum for roughly five seconds, causing it to bleed and leaving him with “unbearable pain.”

They were barred from talking more loudly than a murmur, and forbidden to stand or sleep except when authorized.

Scirocco · 07/06/2024 06:03

How can people still be pro- this???

Finallyloggedin · 07/06/2024 06:20

@EasterIssland So glad to see that delegates are walking out of the UN in protest when they speak. Israel shouldn’t get to commit untold atrocities and then carry on with “life as normal”.

I also just got this https://secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/olympics_ban_4_2/?copy

An Olympics ban for peace

Support the ban on Israel's flag at the Olympics for as long as attacks continue

It is grim.

Rose said on his last visit he was struck “by the sheer number of people with crutches and wheelchairs with missing limbs, with wounds”.
He said many Palestinians in Gaza have tried to compartmentalise their lives to shield themselves from the horror.
“There will be a psychological reckoning at some point” he predicted, pointing out some families had moved as many as 10 times since the conflict started after the invasion by Hamas into Israel on 7 October. “People’s requirement to adjust repeatedly to the realities of life in Gaza is something that no one should have to put up with,” he said.

‘We have normalised horror’ says agency official, after Israeli strike on school

Sam Rose, of Palestinian relief agency Unrwa, made comments after bombing leaves at least 33 dead

Thank you for the links, the horror just gets worse and worse.

I am appalled that Netanyahu will be getting the opportunity to address Congress in Washington. He is quoted as saying:

"I am very moved to have the privilege of representing Israel before both Houses of Congress and to present the truth about our just war against those who seek to destroy us to the representatives of the American people and the entire world," Mr Netanyahu said in the statement.

I hope this backfires spectacularly for Biden. Absolute disgrace they are giving him this platform to lie over and over and to try and justify what he and his government are doing to innocent Palestinians.

Finallyloggedin · 07/06/2024 09:13

@Dulra agreed, utterly disgusting.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

If, in that scenario, police started killing innocent members of the community, very few people would consider that an acceptable approach.

Palestinian civilians are largely unarmed, displaced, struggling to survive with physical and psychological injuries, malnutrition, etc. They cannot 'force' Hamas to do anything.

You are conflating innocent civilians with terrorists and their supporters. Please stop.

The Palestinians outnumber Hamas and could force them to release the hostages so they are not simply innocent bystanders. Even the ones who didn't dance and cheer at the beaten/raped prisoners on display.

Well surely if it was that easy to get the hostages and get rid of Hamas that even unarmed civilians could do it why didn't the IDF send in foot soldiers to get them? rather than bombing the hell out of Gaza

PeasfullPerson · 07/06/2024 10:47

I agree @Scirocco this is a ridiculous attempt to justify the situation. What about places with civil war! The civilians generally outnumber armed factions, but that doesn’t mean they have the power or structural systems to easily over throw them!

New mass graves found in Jabalia refugee camp after Israeli occupation forces withdrew from the camp, the decomposed bodies were found when stray dogs started picking up the remains.

Not until they withdraw and investigators can finally get access. It's a closed zone no independent press

anotherlevel · 07/06/2024 22:07

I dread to think what else they'd find that happened.

mollyfolk · 07/06/2024 23:26

So sorry to hear about your friends @Scirocco

How can people be pro this? When you “other” a group people, when you dehumanise them, say they are not like us, their culture is different, they are inherently dangerous, when they are demonised ect… the result is always horror.

I mean I don’t need to tell you that.

How nightmare like. They need outside help so as to be able to make a data base for DNA, and examine bodies forensically - help they cannot have.

Compare that to what Israel was able to do after Oct 7, and it was difficult enough for them.

Scirocco · 08/06/2024 13:55

Innocent people, including children, have been killed and injured in Nuseirat. While the world cheers and celebrates the reunion of some innocent people, it forgets or ignores those families torn apart forever in the process.

This is true, and it is all terrible.

The double standards people have are appalling. To look the other way when some people suffer. We should condemn all suffering, all crimes, all murders and tortures. But some people have lost their humanity.

Some people even use this board for their own sick entertainment. Having a laugh at the pain of others.
