Quite

They'll have to find another reason now to justify the slaughter

"If Gaza doesn't make it this time, this means that victory is for the most violent and the most barbaric."

Footballer and actor Eric Cantona reads a testimony from Palestinian photojournalist Bisan Owda, who has been trapped in Gaza since October 2023.

Over 1 in 3 people responding to the survey actively support Netanyahu to the extent of choosing him for the role.

That slightly undermines the argument that very few people support what he and his government are doing to Palestine and to Palestinians.

This is a man who has vowed to continue until "Total Victory". Who has encouraged and used language that is dehumanising and calling for the eradication of Palestinians. Who invokes references to the Amalek in his speeches to justify killing innocent people.

And over 1 in 3 respondents would choose him again.

I feel sick.

It’s horrible and depressing but I think people become more extreme in their political views when they feel threatened. I’m sure the same is true of Palestinian support for Hamas. It’s a bleak vicious circle.
I imagine that Israelis might not be getting the same news as us about what is happening in Gaza. Their media outlets will probably be less critical of the IDF and they will possibly be receiving a different version of events from us. ( any Israelis on here might be in a better position to confirm if that is the case)
In times of war people are also much less likely to criticise their government because they feel they have a bigger enemy to focus on.
All the above is equally as true of any Palestinian support for Hamas .
It is very depressing .

A report about a poll in The Times of Israel about Israel controlling Gaza after the war:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/poll-half-of-jewish-israelis-say-israel-should-run-gaza-after-the-war-0-say-hamas/

While understandable in a way that so many (50%) want it under their own control, it is very concerning to think fifty percent of the population just do not see that the outcome, sooner or later, could very likely be more violence, and that this is the way not to be secure imo.

The Palestinian terror groups will keep resurrecting because, to Palestinians, Israeli control over Gaza is violent state sanctioned terror against them. It is a vicious circle.

Fifty percent of Israeli Jews support Israel maintaining control of the Gaza Strip after the war against the Hamas terror group ends, according to a Pew Research Center survey published Thursday.

Asked who should govern the Palestinian enclave after the war, half of Jewish respondents said Israel; 15% said they didn’t know; 10% said the Palestinian Authority, but without its president, Mahmoud Abbas; 8% said people who live in Gaza should decide; 7% answered “other”; 5% said the PA with Abbas; 4% said the United Nations; and zero percent said Hamas.

Absolutely agree.
It’s all very depressing.

From the Guardian:
Israel has run an almost decade-long secret “war” against the international criminal court (ICC), deploying its intelligence agencies to surveil, hack, pressure, smear and allegedly threaten senior ICC staff in an effort to derail the court’s inquiries, an investigation by the Guardian and the Israeli-based magazines +972 and Local Call can reveal.

Israeli intelligence captured the communications of numerous ICC officials, including the chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, and his predecessor as prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, intercepting phone calls, messages, emails and documents.

Heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking. 💔 I look at these children and babies that have lost their lives and I can’t help but look at my kids and think what if. Doesn’t bear thinking about.

ConnieCounter · 03/06/2024 21:31

I saw a video showing the bodies of children killed in the past day in Khan Younis. Devastating. It's too upsetting to share. Here's another account of the recent atrocities in the area.

“Israel has dropped more than 70,000 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip since last October, far surpassing the of Dresden, Hamburg, and London combined during World War II.”

https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/amount-of-israeli-bombs-dropped-on-gaza-surpasses-that-of-world-war-ii/3239665

I also read a very depressing estimate about the true number of casualties. The author reasoned that Israel has dropped an average of 300 bombs per day on Gaza. If each bomb killed just one person, that would be 300 murdered per day. So 300 x 200 = 60,000. Obviously as civil society has been destroyed, there is really no way for the Palestinians to accurately count now, is there? Also am I right in thinking that missing persons (trapped under the rubble) are not included in the figures?

@Finallyloggedin that's right, missing people aren't included in the figures. Some of the figures only include people who have been identified, too, so don't include unidentified dead people.

Two of my friends are among the missing and presumed dead and aren't counted towards the figures for deceased people because no bodies have been confirmed/identified.

I am sorry too for you, Scirroco, and everyone, who has lost all trace of loved ones and friends who have been swallowed up and disappeared in dreadful circumstances like these. It must be difficult to live each day just not knowing what has happened to them in this way. May they be returned at last, one day.

Although denying they are doing it, it would seem the IDF have been bombing civilian areas in Lebanon with white phosphorous.

Which is rather legally questionable... Again.

The shocking thing is that this is most likely a huge undercount. According to Action on Armed Violence, the death toll per individual bomb is 10. If this is correct and 70,000 bombs were dropped on Gaza, the death toll is 700,000 from the bombings alone.

aoav.org.uk/2023/numbers-of-civilian-deaths-per-airstrike-in-gaza-today-far-higher-than-previous-israeli-bombings-but-half-that-of-russian-syrian-attacks-in-mosul-and-aleppo-under-reporting-of-the-dead-or-less-letha/

I am so sorry Scirocco. The not knowing must be so hard. Wherever they are I hope they are at peace. I don't know how you continue to post on these boards you are one of the most reasonable, respectful and fair posters yet probably one of the only that has been so directly impacted by this conflict. Mind yourself 💐

Another war crime being committed. Members of the IDF gleefully announcing they'll be bombing a mosque and there'll be no more Friday prayers. This is so upsetting to see.

Is saying “Have a dynamite Sabbath” not sacrilegious? What arrogance against God, for someone who apparently believes in God.

Isn’t the Sabbath a holy day of rest? Blowing up a mosque entails being rather busy.

The IDF is foolish to allow soldiers to show them up in this way.
