I can wait

If these 'gleeful' comments were as common as you say and made such an impression on you they won't be difficult for you to find?

I give up. Between deleted threads, deleted comments, deleted content from social media links that have been posted and the amount of threads and posts there are on this board, I can't provide proof. I know it was on Mumsnet I came across the image I shared earlier on Reddit as this is the only place I discuss this stuff. I wouldn't dare to anywhere where my real name would be known as I don't particularly enjoy death threats and harassment, so I exclusively stick to this anonymous forum.

You know it's not entirely reasonable to expect me to be able to prove something that was posted probably 5-7 months ago. You know I can't do a search for links or images. Key words don't work as every single thread is about exactly the same thing. But the comments were made. I know a lot of them were deleted, as you'd expect as they were vile, but I'm sure some still stand. They could be in any of the hundreds of threads though.

Hopefully someone else will see this and remember what I'm talking about and confirm I'm not going crazy. But also, you guys not remembering these posts doesn't mean much as it wouldn't be memorable to you. Why would you remember something that doesn't mean anything to you? It's obviously going to be more memorable to those who are appalled by it.

So well done, you win. I currently can't prove it so we can all keep pretending it didn't happen as obviously posters on this board would never sink so low.

Just a thought maybe just think before posting unpleasant hyperbolic blaming posts for which you can't provide even a shred of evidence

Surely you'd expect to be challenged?

'It's all been deleted' was entirely expected

I've seen the same things, but in your alternative universe you can call pp a liar. As per usual it's FIFO on these threads.

I did think. I just assumed people would remember it! Like, it happened. It hadn't occurred to me that people would say it didn't.

And if it helps, your response to me saying I can't find it was also entirely expected. But deep down, I know you can see sense in my reasons. It just wouldn't suit this current discussion for you to acknowledge it. I get it.

I recall seeing comments about how the number was not what was reported, much about Israel lying, that Israel had killed many of their own, that Israel made lots of claims up, eg rape was made up, exaggerated etc. Huge amount of anti semitism. A thread about fake news that contained much fake news itself. Threads about why rape wasn't believed with comments from other sites that were disgusting.

So many deleted comments of things said thar many threads are hard to read and don't flow going back to them. So much hatred.

I do also recall what @Humdingerydoo suggests.

anotherlevel · 14/05/2024 11:56

@Humdingerydoo FWIW There were some posts stating/commenting on the number of civilian deaths and deaths of non civilians when the news came out but none were gleeful, saying 'only' and I honestly do not recall any memes mocking the dead. The one you posted from Reddit I've never seen before until now.

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 11:57

@Humdingerydoo I'm sorry it was me who first said that I don't recall seeing memes mocking the dead. And I really don't.
There has been other awful things said as mentioned by @Factsareimportantplease
I just expressed my surprise and I suppose disbelief that people had posted memes mocking dead civilians

It was all the links to twitter etc. They were not pleasant links. They never are, really. But generally, you only ever post a link because you agree with the contents or because you vehemently disagree with the contents. It wasn't the latter in this instance. But as I said, I can't prove it so I guess that's that!

Perhaps this isn't intentional but comments like the above are quite patronising. Also when you keep telling people what they must be thinking

Me too. Definitely remember comments that were very distasteful around the numbers and who actually killed them etc.

Now that you have pointed it out, I can see how it could read to others. It's not how it was intended and it's too late to edit now.

In that post, I started trying to give examples of things I wouldn't remember as well as the poster I was replying to but realised the insanity of trying to think of an example of something I couldn't remember. As obviously, I can't think of something I can't remember 🙈 So I deleted half the post without properly editing the remaining half. I was basically trying to say that I'm more likely to remember eg something someone said about Iraqi Jews than others would. It stays with you a lot longer if it personally affects or relates to you, and that's what I think happened with those posts.

I truly never saw that image on here, and I would remember it as the graphics are highly effective in showing the split, and it is a very clever graphic artistically. But of course I may have missed it.

What I do remember is discussion around an Israeli spokesman (Hagari possibly) being interviewed and saying that unlike Gaza, Israel was honest in reporting numbers of dead , because Israel had revised their figures downwards of Oct 7 Israeli murdered.

He said further examination of burnt bodies, which they formerly had thought were all the bodies of dead Israelis, turned out in some cases to be the bodies of Hamas terrorists.

Someone had tweeted this interview with the comment “The question is, who burnt the bodies?” Suggesting some of the deaths of not just Hamas but also Israelis had occurred under Israeli fire.

(I have not re looked this up but just tried to remember.)

I saw something on Twitter reported by Jerusalem post a few days ago about the numbers of women and children killed had been halved. There were many comments explaining why this didn’t mean that less people had been killed.

Who has also confirmed to be happy with the revised of death toll 25k identified and more than 35k in totsl

Many Israelis want to effectively colonise Gaza with settlers.

This is from Haaretz’s daily briefing:

Thousands of Israelis, including Netanyahu government ministers, participated on Tuesday in a march calling to resettle Gaza.

Communication Minister Shlomo Karhi said:

"In order to preserve the security achievements for which our soldiers lost their lives, we must resettle Gaza with security forces and settlers that will embrace the land with love."

Zvi Sukkot, a member of the far-right Religious Zionism party, said:

"When they dragged away our righteous settlers from their home, we vowed to return, and now we are more determined than ever."

I looked up the Communications Minister
Shlomo Kharhi, one of those mentioned by Haaretz today who were declaring a resolve to resettle Gaza , and found this communication. (My bolding.)

The context was Netanyahu’s conversation with Biden last December when Biden said there must be work towards a state of Palestine, and Netanyahu resisted.

Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi doubled down on Netanyahu’s statement, saying Israel respects and cherishes Biden “who went out of his way during the most difficult period of the State of Israel. This is true friendship. But we live here, this is our country. The historical property of our ancestors.”

“There will be no Palestinian state here. We will never allow another state to be established between Jordan and the (Mediterranean) sea,” Karhi added.

The idea of “from the river to the sea” all of a sudden sounds so peaceful and loving when people linked to this fascist right wing Israeli government say it.

We are so naive to think this is a genocide….
The buildings are still there albeit rubble, such a small number of innocent people are killed - all those murdered were members of Hamas, Israeli government is lovely telling Palestinians to simply emigrate - leave - for if they leave they can remain alive, if they stay then it’s all fair - collateral damage…..their fault for remaining and choosing their land and death….There’s clearly no other solutions from some peoples mind like trying to hold them to account for their actions!

This is also in the Haaretz briefing showing how internally divided Israel is.

There is an elephant in the Israeli room – and no, it's not occupation, though that is its main cause. The elephant in the room is Israel gradually but inexorably being divided into the State of Israel – a high-tech, secular, outward-looking, imperfect but liberal state – and the Kingdom of Judea, a Jewish-supremacist, ultranationalist theocracy with messianic, antidemocratic tendencies that encourage isolation" - Alon Pinkas

This Independence Day, Israel has split into two incompatible Jewish states

Nope, let’s not even wait for the dead to be buried, the Torah says it is their land so they can go and settle. It’s really as simple as that. You can have Jewish people from all over the world come no claim that land yet the Palestinians there have zero claim.

The sheer temerity of this fascist evil Israeli government and its supporters is now simply sickening. US and UK governments are truly disgusting, there is no moral fibre. It is genocide, they know it is a genocide and they simply do not care.

I have just watched that video of that speech, thank you for posting it.

That faction (thousands) are absolutely clear and open about their intentions to settle in Gaza and expel Palestinians, regardless of Biden saying there should be a two state solution.

I wonder why they are so sure the USA will continue backing them? They seem very secure in feeling they have nothing to worry about.

This is Haaretz daily briefing about it:

'We Must Settle Gaza Now'

*Netanyahu Ministers Join Israeli Far-right 'March to Gaza,'
‘Demand Palestinians' Expulsion

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for Israel to 'encourage emigration' of Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip; Two protesters who crossed the northern border into Gaza were apprehended

Thousands of Israelis joined a far-right Independence Day march on Tuesday in the south, led by Jewish activists advocating for resettling Gaza and forcing Palestinians to leave the enclave.

It’s depressing but let’s not be naive of course the US and UK will continue backing them.
That is why they can carry out a genocide right in front of the world at this time of 24 hours news.
Not all lives matter and not all lives are equal.
Israelia have a higher right to exist than Palestinians.
It’s getting beyond madness now- it’s deliberate murder of a group of people, it is deliberate displacement, it is a deliberate occupation and the US and UK government ministers and spokespeople come out and say crap like “oh we are worried” “oh we have told the Israelis to be measured” “oh it doesn’t meet our definition of genocide”…. I would have such respect for them if they came out and said “it’s a genocide, we couldn’t give a damn about the Palestinians - kill the lot of them- we support Israel” at least then they’re honest about what is happening and their standpoint.
