I think in a democracy this is absolutely necessary. Obviously policing will be important but it is good to see that in terms of street protest this is not a come sided issue.

I wonder how many are going to be arrested losing their rag seeing Israeli flags an masse after getting themselves riled up calling for a ceasefire.....

Met arrest nine as Palestine and Israel protesters march in London

The Met Police has today arrested nine people as thousands of pro-Palestine activists and Israel supporting counter protesters marched through London amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

There is anti semitic and anti Zionist. Just saying. Refuse to believe all you want. This is the problem.

I wonder how genuine you are about peace. Your posts are very confrontational.

My original post ( which you objected to) suggested both marches join together to ask for peace. I don’t see how that was confrontational but you told me I was “preaching “.
Now that I am trying to explain my self I’m told I should relax.
TBH I’m not sure I would want to walk beside you on ANY march.
There are other pro Palestinian supporters on here that I would happily walk with in real life. They tend to be people with actual skin in the game .

You’re grouping posters together so I’m ignoring half of what you’ve written. But I do find your posts disingenuous- you seem to stoke up more division that somebody truly interested in peace.

All of the big London marches that protest against the genocide in Gaza. Want to come?

I live in London but will decline your offer because you don’t come across well on here and have deliberately mis represented the points I was making.

Mags48 · 20/04/2024 10:30

@Limesodaagain no problem. You won’t be missed.

You can think what you like. You’ve ignored the substance of my posts because you have preconceived notions. You don’t know me. I’ve never been interested in dividing people. I am definitely someone who wants peace. I do have a desire to point out an alternative perspective when only one point of view is being heard. That’s not “stoking division “ .
I think maybe you prefer echo chambers.

Comedycook · 20/04/2024 10:35

I will say I always find @Limesodaagain to be really quite a balanced and sensible poster on here.

Of course. Echo chamber noted.

I'd like the people hiding behind 'I'm not anti-Semitic, I'm anti-Zionist' to be a bit clearer by what they mean by that.

Because some, by anti-Zionist, mean that they want the eradication of Israel - the country to cease to exist. I can see why Israelis might find that objectionable.

I am not hiding behind anything. I am not spending the rest of my life justifying what I am saying. You have a dictionary, look it up. And thank you. This proves one of my previous posts. Forever having to justify my existence, my religion, my ethnicity, my right to live, my right to have views.

Limesodaagain · 20/04/2024 10:45

This was my original post ( a reply to another poster) and has caused an endless stream of accusations and criticisms. It’s completely impossible to have a discussion on here.
“I am a Christian Palestinian who wants a peaceful secular solution, but understands what 75 years years of theft and brutality can do to people.”
I understand and agree with this. I just wish the marches had made it possible to condemn Hamas and ask for the hostages release as well as condemn Netanyahu and ask for justice for Palestinians.

Senzadubbidobbi · 20/04/2024 10:45

1200 Israelis killed. By Hamas.

34,000 Gazans killed 74,000 wounded. Thousands under the rubble and many more on the brink of starvation. By Israel.

Not to mention who started the conflict through unilaterally declaring itself a state, displacing a population, expanding settler colonies despite it being against international law and strangling the lifeblood out of a culture. There is no Hamas in the West Bank yet the IDF continues to allow Palestinian homes to be destroyed.

Who knows what any of our sons would do if they were brought up under such a brutal occupation with no hope of a decent future.

Fair enough. Blame Hamas but for every anti-Hamas poster you’re going to need a hundred blaming the Israeli government.

I understand your wishes. And I respect you for them. I also understand how heated it gets when Hamas is mentioned, because we seem not to be allowed to be able to put our views across without referencing what we feel about Hamas first. As if 7th October is really what started it. We have Piers Morgan to thank for that I suppose.

You're not hiding behind anything, you're just not going to explain what you mean by it.

Ok.

BibiSuzanne · 20/04/2024 10:54

No noblegiraffe I am not. I've stopped all that now. Because you will believe what you want to believe.

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2024 11:05

I don't believe anything about you in particular, have to say no idea who you are.

Anti-Zionist and anti the Israeli government aren't the same thing, and some try to pretend that they are. Many Jews are opposed to the actions of the Israeli government but aren't anti-Zionist and yet it is often suggested that anti-Zionism is the only acceptable position.

You want to know who I am? Here we go again. I have to prove and justify my very existence again before anyone takes me seriously. So sad.
Meet me for a coffee and I will tell you. I'm not putting myself online.
I have told you enough. I'm a 61 year old Christian Palestinian. I am a human being.

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2024 11:11

No, I don't want to know who you are. I haven't asked you to prove or justify your existence or anything.

Kendodd · 20/04/2024 11:24

What are they demonstrating for? No ceasefire, more bombing?

Most of the time, the two go self-righteously hand in hand, as evidenced throughout this thread. This is the problem.

Kendodd · 20/04/2024 11:24

Release of the hostages which everyone wants.

The trouble is that the majority of Israelis support Israel's military campaign in Gaza which is completely at odds with what pro Palestinian supporters want and therefore very difficult to march together. There is a demand from pro-israeli people that marches should also condemn Hamas, are they also willing to condemn Netanyahu and the IDF?

25milesfromhome · 20/04/2024 11:49

Also, that the Neteuri Karta, JVP and JVL are still being wheeled out as the approved anti-Zionist Jews on marches who therefore represent all Jews is just lazy tokenism. Do better.

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2024 12:00

The Neteuri Karta want the dismantling of Israel as a state. Is that what other anti-Zionists want?

25milesfromhome · 20/04/2024 12:21

Apparently so, because they just don’t like “Zionists” and they’re really anti them.
