Israel supporting counter marches in London - about time

I think in a democracy this is absolutely necessary. Obviously policing will be important but it is good to see that in terms of street protest this is not a come sided issue.

I wonder how many are going to be arrested losing their rag seeing Israeli flags an masse after getting themselves riled up calling for a ceasefire.....

Met arrest nine as Palestine and Israel protesters march in London

The Met Police has today arrested nine people as thousands of pro-Palestine activists and Israel supporting counter protesters marched through London amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Why not have both marches join together to ask for peace for both communities?

@Mags48 The counter protest condemns Hamas and the pro Palestinian protests condemns Israeli government. It should be possible to condemn both in the same march?

This is something you are requesting so why don't you organise it? I'm always bemused by people that criticise something, suggest a better way of doing it and sit back waiting for others to do it for them without doing anything themselves. If you feel so strongly about this do something about it!!! Rather than preaching

“Rather than preaching “
Oh for Gods sake !

Yes preaching here to people who are participating in the marches and telling them how they should be doing it rather then taking action yourself and organising a march that you feel would be a better way of doing it.

@Comedycook I didn’t ask your opinion.

This is a public forum!

Limesodaagain · 20/04/2024 10:06

Always interesting how some people deflect from the actual questions with rudeness and accusations. It says a lot about them.

Comedycook · 20/04/2024 10:07

Yes exactly. And no, that poster didn't ask my opinion. Yet seems to assume they know my opinion well enough to suggest a attend a counter protest

I’m explaining why the counter protests are there and suggesting that it should be possible to bring people together and your response is that I’m “preaching “
Honestly - you don’t sound that interested in peace to me.

How is suggesting you should organise a peace march rather than criticise others for what they're doing rude?

Telling me I’m preaching is rude. Your tone is dismissive and rude. Not dealing with the substance of my point but essentially saying “ sort it out yourself “ is rude.

Senzadubbidobbi · 20/04/2024 10:11

There are many Jews on the pro-Palestine marches, who quite clearly advertise their Jewishness with signs saying their relatives were killed in the Holocaust and it is precisely because of this they are marching.

As for the orthodox Jews who stand with their signs by Trafalgar Square they are often thanked by Muslims marching past.
Of course the Zionists would like to paint the protestors as anti-Semitic, just as the far right like to paint the marches as a Muslim immigrant takeover.
But the pro Palestine marches are attended by people from all religious backgrounds, nationalities and races who are simply united in their desire for a just solution that gives Palestinians the rights and freedoms they have been denied. It’s about humanity nothing else.

The zionists on the corner are welcome to protest and I feel for any of them who has lost someone but they have not been physically attacked and they are protected by the police.
The worst they’ve suffered is when the protesters chant “Shame on you”.

Easy. I condemn the Israeli government and its occupation of Palestine alongside condemning Hamas.

Ok I'll detract the word preaching and change it to suggesting, but my point stands I always find that if something isn't been done the way you think works best and if you feel there is a better way to do it the best option is to do it yourself rather than wait for others to change their ways.

On the March!!! We talking about doing that with placards on the March ( but again- you know that - you’re deflecting)

@Limesodaagain I think you need to relax. Everything to you is a deflection. I’m happy to make signs for both of us and you can join me at the protest next Saturday?

This is a discussion forum. Saying “ go and do it yourself “ kind of defeats the purpose of the form ( but - again - you know that) It also sounds a bit …”preachy”?
Also - I already do stuff and feel I do enough- you don’t know me and yet you’re trying to shut down my contribution by saying “ you sort it out”

@Mags48 Which March do you go to? Because I’m not sure how genuine you’re offer is ..

All of the big London marches that protest against the genocide in Gaza. Want to come?

Tbh I only have so many hands. Would I use them to hold a placard against the crowd that killed 1,200 people and are holding 130 people hostage or the people that have killed over 30,000 people, are starving millions of people and have almost 4000 people held without charge or trial in horrific conditions? Both are bad but one is causing far, far, far more damage and has for a very long time.

Limesodaagain · 20/04/2024 10:22

Honestly- what a pair ! You’re no advert for the inclusivity and compassion of the March

Mags48 · 20/04/2024 10:22

@Limesodaagain you edited your post after I replied. So in response - yes you are very welcome. I often go to the accessible / parent bloc and my children come with me. It’s incredibly friendly and diverse.

Oh right! That’s the reason why there are NO placards asking for the release of the hostages! You only have two hands ! Of course🙄

@Limesodaagain you can hold one sign for the 130 hostages and one sign for the 35,000 dead Gazans. Does that sound balanced enough for you?

Comedycook · 20/04/2024 10:25

I don't believe for a second that there is not a single anti semetic person at the marches. I'm not saying everyone is. Of course not. But any is enough for me. I find too many people are desperate to group Jewish people into two groups...the "acceptable" Jews or genocidal maniacs. I have no desire to play their game.

TextureSeeker · 20/04/2024 10:27

A release of the hostages goes with a ceasefire. Do you genuinely think that people don't want hostages released? I mean I can only speak for myself but the release of the Israeli hostages and the almost 4000 Palestinians that Israel are holding should have happened months ago. Both the Israelis and Palestinians being held are no doubt being held in horrific conditions and are being subjected to all kinds of abuse. You only have to see the state some hostages came out in the state Palestinians come out in to know that. Of course these people should be freed. That's part of the reason I have been calling for a ceasefire for months and months.
