Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

Redebs · 04/03/2024 09:21

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

Don’t think anyone has mentioned the word Jewish

You don’t have to. I’m not Jewish, but I can see it clearly.

"So unfair! The EBU didn't post my video quick enough for my liking and it's probably because I broke their rules! How unfair is that?! And it's all Israel's fault!"

My goodness, some people are such sore losers.

And pro-Palestinians have the leader of Iran rooting for them. That tells you everything you need to know about the Palestinian cause.

That's how it works, right? And also, all Palestinians in Gaza can likewise be judged by the fact they're supported by terrorists?

Not sure too many people on the far right spend too much time watching Eurovision to be honest. Not sure it's quite their thing? I'd imagine they would take issue with quite a few aspects of it to be honest.

Humdingerydoo · 12/05/2024 21:51

I'm really bored of how everything is some conspiracy and it's all Israel's fault. It's really, really boring.

What does it tell you? Tells me you don't understand how fascism works. Reminder that British Jews have made it clear they don't want his support and told him to stay awar from the huge antisemitism march in November. I doubt any Israelis know who he is.

Also, has Finland complained and been told it’s because of the nails your participant was using ?

No idea, I'm not desperately scouring the internet day in and day out for tweets and blogs to post on here that prove the Zionist entity Israel are the root of all the world's problems so I'll defer to your superior research skills on that one.

I think is pretty scary.

As a European, I’ve often spent a lot of time reading about how Europe was shaped and how we came to be. I’ve always wondered how something like the Holocaust could happen in a civilised society, like Germany was at the time. How so many people could turn a blind eye to it.

But now, I understand.

I’m not Jewish, and would never have described myself as a supporter of Israel, but I have seen with my own eyes, on the very streets of my own city, the sentiment. I’ve seen it rise and spread like a virus. And people are doing a really stellar job at gaslighting, and denying anything untoward is going on. I’ll give them that - a real stellar job.

Even on here, I’ve read some awful things. And the people saying them don’t even understand why it is wrong to say. Or don’t care.

And I know others can see it to. That’s probably why Eden did so well in the competition. I think Eurovision is quite niche, but those watching certainly spoke via their voting.

People may not want his support, but he and his supporters have hitched a ride on this conflict as a way of attacking Muslims. They're the kind of people who'll seize any opportunity to spread their hate.

A bunch of the 'Tommy Robinson' types were quite open on social media that they had no intention of watching but were going to bulk vote anyway. I'm aware of similar campaigns in other countries too.

As are people who openly support terrorism or spout anti-Semitism at the pro-Palestinian marches. Let's not pretend it's just one side that is getting unwanted support from extremists. At least the people who organised the march against antisemitism arranged to have right-wing extremists removed.

I'm not having a go at you Scirocco, it just so happens to be your comment I'm replying to. I'm just getting fed up with the hypocrisy and people blaming Israel for absolutely everything. It's not normal and it's not ok. Hopefully you can see what we see, which is that certain people are obsessed with portraying Israel or its supporters in a bad light. There are enough legitimate criticisms of Israel so I'm really not sure why people feel the need to eg defend bullies or alleged criminal behaviour, or defend representatives of a country who seem to be blaming Israel for them doing badly in a singing contest?! It's beyond insane at this point.

At no point have I pretended otherwise. And for what it's worth, we have had extremists removed where I am.

Great, and Cyprus voted for a truly awful performance from Greece because they're neighbours. Ukraine had an awful song and did spectacularly in the public vote. No one is complaining about that though.

I've already told you and others previously that I deplore Islamophobia but do people not think it's also possible that quite a few people voted for Israel because they just liked the song? Israel often does well in a Eurovision. It's nothing new.

Nothing to do with posters not being able to “handle the truth”. Jeez.

There probably will have been people voting tactically and politically all over the place, as well as people boycotting. It's not really controversial to mention groups of people who have been open about doing it.

I think if people don't know about fascism and antisemitism then they've probably been living under a rock.

No significance or conspiracies or other accusations were attached to a simple observation that Tommy Robinson and his supporters take every opportunity or excuse to spread hatred, especially towards Muslims.

As I previously commented, I thought overall the top ranking songs were the better ones in the contest. Not necessarily to everyone's taste, but all musically decent within their own genres, I thought.

And I'm not at all surprised that Eden did well - I think you'll find that one of my first comments about her song when it was announced was that it was to a good standard and I could see it doing well.

And what would that threshold be exactly…. Let me guess crying “antisemitism!” every time Israel is mentioned. These are the kind of tactics used to shut down any opinion other than Israel’s only it doesn’t wash anymore and rightly so. Go ahead and ask for my comments to be deleted because it’s quite pathetic. Good night folks.

The whole ridiculous furore over Eurovision is completely surreal. It’s like a weird Hunger Games script. On the one side glamour, TV and OTT camp performance/ on the other starvation and death

You're a textbook example of why people are being turned off by pro-Palestinian groups and why I, despite being 100% against Israeli activity in Gaza, would rather stick needles in my eyes than having anything to do with your movement.

No, but you do seem quite emotional around this topic and you have probably, most likely, crossed a line.

Maybe if your comments are regularly being deleted, you should have a real think about what you are posting, rather than blaming others.

Good night.

There are some really good advocates for Palestine on here. They deserve to be listened to.
