the negatives that I see is that the average member of the British public who has no understanding of what’s happening and is likely to be brainwashed by the media will inconvenienced by the protests

Wow.

The level of patronising smug superiority on this thread is reaching unprecedented levels.

I don’t know how Jews can stand to be talked over and at in this way.

I’ve spoken to hundred of people over the past few weeks and many were very honest about how little they knew and kept referring back to what they see in the media . If the majority of people I’ve spoken to me are telling me they don’t know what’s going on / history of the region im relating what people have told me . There’s nothing wrong with not knowing and most people know the newspapers are not a reliable source of information so there’s no need to sensationalise my comment

PeasfullPerson · 02/03/2024 19:14

This thread and the regular posters on it in my opinion definitely do a disservice to efforts against anti-semitism. But they are just a small selection who are not representative of the majority.
I tried to make an effort to engage on here but my comments were met with name calling and swearing, and their empathy only extends to certain people. When I mentioned something disturbing had happened in response to me advocating for empathy towards the people in Gaza - silence.

Who called you names pet?

Did you report the posts with the name calling?

By the way, this is Mumsnet. Swearing is normal on here.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/03/2024 19:20

The antisemitism, expressed in the form of disgustingly patronising edicts about what behaviours non Jews consider it acceptable for Jewish people to find concerning and offensive, is disgusting. It reminds me more and more of misogyny every day where men lol women what it is legitimate to be concerned about.

Humdingerydoo · 02/03/2024 19:20

So now there isn't any racism at these marches at all, as opposed to you not having witnessed it? I thought the standard line was "it's a small minority", not that it doesn't happen at all?

To be clear, at no point have I accused @Nads0622 or her children of racism. I have stated that I believe there is racism at these marches but that they're just not noticing it.

Nothing in the poster's post struck me as smug.

Your sweeping reference to "jews" is curious indeed.

"Jews" Are not a single block. In fact to suggest that they are sounds like an anti semitic generalisation.

There are many folk on the marches declaring themselves to be Jewish. I have no reason to think that they are not. In fact a jewish friend of mine jokes that they are labelled by some on one side of the "debate" as "not real jews". "The wrong sort of jews"

Humdingerydoo · 02/03/2024 19:30

Here we go. Trying to make Jews seem like the racist ones. This happens every single time.

Do you think there's some kind of list they tick off as they go, @noblegiraffe ? "Right so I've done the whole 'there's no antisemitism at the marches' thing, What's next? Oh, 'I have a Jewish friend and the only antisemitism they've ever encountered has been from other Jews'. When is it time for 'Arabs are also semites, actually'?"

I appreciate you trying to stand up for us noble but I think some people would rather just pretend antisemitism isn't as big a problem as it is. It suits their purpose a lot better to brush it under the carpet.

No ones saying there isn’t any just that genuinely on the many times I’ve been I’ve not seen it. Pls note I’m typing whilst in the car with my 3 children who are naturally fighting for my attention ( to avoid any drama and sensationalism I want to clarify my husbands driving and my children have been with me all day and for most of it I’ve not been on the phone and they’ve had my undivided attention )

so
I apologies if my grammar leaves a lot to be desired and therefore is the reason why so much of what I’m saying seems to be misconstrued 🫤

Apologies for ignorance. I know the US is supplying arms to Israel for its slaughter. Is the UK?

There’s a Commons report.
My above comment tho was re Barclays

I wouldn’t bother with them @Nads0622

I feel like like I’m banging my head against a brick wall, having to clarify everything and make sure anything I type isn’t misconstrued. I was blaming it on the fact I had 2 hrs sleep .
just for clarification by me saying I feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall there is no intention to be smug or belittle anyone and I don’t mean it literally.

That's all very relatable :)

I'm really not going out of my way to try and misconstrue what you're saying. I thought you were saying something that I didn't agree with so I commented on it. That's all.

What you’ve written is perfectly fine, it’s a common tactic they like to use. Your words will be taken out of context and misconstrued until they’ve decided that you said something entirely different, something that supports their narrative and that they can be outraged about. I’m worried they enjoy it!

What do you hope to achieve with showing a tiny snippet of a march - one of many that are being held on a regular basis all over the world? What do you think you're proving?

Ah, the old ‘my Jewish friend’ trope to justify some casual anti Semitism.

I've seen this kind of view expressed on here before and I honestly find it astonishing. I can't imagine there other other ethnic groups you would say this to if they were talking about their own views on/ experiences of racism.

stomachamelon · 02/03/2024 22:20

@0palfrootee it is a strange and frankly baffling statement.

OP posts:
stomachamelon · 02/03/2024 22:23

@kirinm I am not trying to 'prove' anything just posting an Instagram post that people may or may not chose to view which may or may not be a reflection of the marches as a whole.

Like lots of other posters do.

ironically, the only regular poster I see on here who does this is you! It's a shame really because you're missing out on the learning experience. For instance @ sirrocco I think (?) gave a really detailed break down of the ways her protest group were combating any anti Semitic factions, which was really useful and hugely reassuring to hear.

Not a "trope", real world. Are folks not allowed to have real life jewish friends? Are those jewish folk not allowed to have opinions? To be individuals? Where is this "casual antisemitism" of which you speak? Are you talking about/trying to slander me?

Pot, kettle black given the cutting and pasting by those generally opposed to Israel.

am not aware that I have ever cut and paste without making my point clear - in fact may not have cut and paste at all.
Anyway thanks for making clear that this debate is about current (though the ambassador to the UK seems to think policy is set in permafrost/holy writ) Israeli policy and Israel's actions, not anti-semitism.

No, this specific debate is about whether or not the marches are intimidating to Jews because of the amount of antisemitism at them. Not sure why you're so uncomfortable discussing the topic at hand.

If you would prefer to discuss Israeli politics and policies there are loads of other threads to do that on. There are some that are entirely anti-Israel (including it's right to exist) and there are others where they're more just opposed to Netanyahu and his government. Just pick one you like the look of and debate away 👍🏻
