Interesting situation: side by side placement of the flags.

It’s the bit, should a person on stage start arguing with the crowd? Should members of the audience object to flags on stage?

Soho theatre bans comedian after ‘verbal abuse’ of Jewish audience members

Venue says Paul Currie will not be invited back after allegations he verbally abused man who objected to Palestinian flag

I'd say having your shows cancelled and your livelihood threatened seems like pretty bad publicity.
Karma's a bitch, isn't it?

Today, he's being cancelled. Tomorrow, a big show about being cancelled and how edgy he is.

Yeah but like a pp said a few days ago no-one had heard of this guy. Now not only his name more well known he can wave his Edge Lord credentials about. It is not unusual for a comedian to get into trouble for causing offence (Billy Connolly, Frankie Boyle and Russell Brand spring to mind. There are probably others) though I like to think most are not so cynical about it or dumb enough to bully their own audience.

inkworks273 · 17/02/2024 06:38

@Fussandmisery Did he bully his audience member or was he responding to the audience members rude comments? The jury's still out on that one.

You're right though. Intentional or not he probably will gain a lot more fans. People who will be sympathetic to his pro Palestine, anti war stance. Those who are sick of seeing those who speak out against what's happening being punished for doing so.

stomachamelon · 17/02/2024 06:53

@inkworks273 is that what happened? Bit of a reach do you not think? Somewhat romantic view of a bully isolating a member of his audience. He could have just ignored him and wound the evening up? Happy that most supported his stance.

Even if that man was just a member of the public he was harassed and harangued by that 'comedian'

The audience member claimed Currie told the man: “Get out of my show. Get the fuck out of here. Fuck off, get the fuck out of here.” (The guardian)

Stop making excuses for the indefensible.

@stomachamelon "Stop making excuses for the indefensible."

Oh the irony.

stomachamelon · 17/02/2024 08:14

@inkworks273 predictable response.

You already referred to him as a 'genocide supporter' so your bias is clear. Then backtracked and asked for evidence.

My point was that if he is a genocide supporter I would have a lot less sympathy for him than if he was just an innocent bystander who was singled out for being Jewish.

We don't have all the information so I'm waiting until we have a clearer picture. I don't think that is unreasonable,

quantumbutterfly · 17/02/2024 09:01

Aibu to foster the idea that someone is a genocide supporter because they don't stand for the Palestinian flag and it turns out they're Israeli and a bit hurt by the events of 7/10?

That poll would be interesting?

@stomachamelon "Stop making excuses for the indefensible."

Oh the irony.

I know! You really couldn't make up.
It's ok to make excuses about nearly 30000 killed, half of them children, about famine, about mass graves, about lack of medical aid, about destroying infrastructures ( all verified) but don't you dare trying to explain an event where posters rely on hearsay . Bonkers!

quantumbutterfly · 17/02/2024 09:05

It could be ironic if @stomachamelon consistently justified and defended netanyahus strategy.....they haven't.

That's not what happened though is it? The flag wasn't even on the stage at that point.

quantumbutterfly · 17/02/2024 09:11

So how should my hypothetical aibu be phrased?

You don't have to do this consistently for it to be ironic.
When you support the Israeli government, you support what is happening in Gaza.

quantumbutterfly · 17/02/2024 09:54

Oh hello Auvergne.

My understanding is he challenged the audience member for not joining in the standing ovation. Then berated him when he explained he was offended by the Palestinian flag.

I’m not pro Israeli as you know but if the comedian had made his point, and then kept his mouth shut when he saw evidence someone disagreed with him, then maybe he’d come across as having more integrity. As it stands the whole thing screams publicity stunt.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/02/2024 12:00

It has the whiff if publicity stunt about it. But not from the comedian who has been known to buck people out of his gigs before.

Are you accusing me of being a stalker? Then if you are, say it directly. Don't insinuate it or are you afraid you would break the rules of posting on here?
Personal attacks are not allowed, as you well know.
Stating that Israel needs a new government for peace to succeed is not the same as denouncing the atrocities committed by the present government.
Do you denounce these? But I don't expect you to answer this question . I just wish posters had the courage of their convictions though.

stomachamelon · 17/02/2024 13:06

@TooBigForMyBoots you think he has been targeted as he does this regularly?

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/02/2024 13:42

Possibly.

newtlover · 18/02/2024 19:08

Those who are sick of seeing those who speak out against what's happening being punished for doing so.

I have not heard of a single person being punished for speaking against the attacks on Gaza. But I've heard of plenty being punished for speaking about October 7, to the point where people are staying silent.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/02/2024 22:01

This comedian is being punished for it.

Who is being punished for talking about the atrocities on 7th October?

stomachamelon · 18/02/2024 22:24

@TooBigForMyBoots women who spoke out at length about sexual violence on 7/10 and the role of rape in that event led to a avalanche of supposed left wing women/'feminists' casting doubt (regardless of Evidence/ injuries/ go pro. They wrote disparaging article and even on here 'me too' became a useless nothing.
I feel so ashamed that was the worlds response to these women. And the plight of the female hostages.
