That's your opinion.

@OneMerryRedSnail you just said with such conviction a few minutes ago that it's Hamas who shot them and the IDF are not even there.

I'm just a lurker but it is actually getting quite distressing now watching posters continually blame starving, desperate, traumatised people for their own deaths.

It certainly is.
People are risking their lives in search of food for their families. I saw one elderly father who said his son came back empty handed but he was just relieved that he had survived.
It's extreme desperation

Why not blame Hamas who are the elected government in Gaza?

Parkingt111 · 29/02/2024 12:05

Does anyone know if there are any initiatives or charities that are focusing on getting baby formula into Gaza?
That's one of the reasons babies are dying, the mothers are too malnutritioned to nurse them and there is a lack of formula milk

Elected by whom? And when? Please do some maths based on the demographics of Gaza before responding.

Meanwhile 5 elections since 2019 for the Israelis and they have a hard right government which includes a self confessed fascist and a convicted terrorist.

I was going on past track records of Hamas. who want the body count to be as high as possible - that's why they use their population as 'human shields'.

I wasn't aware that the IDF was supervising the delivery of Aid.
We keep being told repeadedly on this thread that they are deliberately stopping it getting through. (Hence the air drops)

It was news to me that they are now helping delivery.

ConnieCounter · 29/02/2024 12:07

I'm not sure that murdering civilians trying to reach food aid is "helping".

Efacsen · 29/02/2024 12:07

Death toll has risen to 104 from this IDF 'crowd control' attempt

So it's OK that Israel do these things, but not OK to talk about it? I wish Israel weren't carrying out war crimes every day of the week, but unfortunately they are. Sorry if it's boring for you.

Ah-ha,
So the Israeli forces were trying to distribute Aid and were attacked by looters.

Self-defence

So first you thought the news was fake as it was reported by Al Jazeera.

Then your response in the face of a more
( to you) believable report was ‘who says it was the IDF’ or words to that effect.

Now that The Times of Israel reports the news and reports that the IDF opened fire all you say to other readers here is “Ah ha” Looters Self-defence ( for the IDF) about people who are dying of starvation.

Even the IDF has the decency to say they are investigating - showing that they realise the gravity of what they did even if they go on to excuse themselves.

Your tone is increasingly coming across as highly offensive in the face of what is starting to look like mass starvation.

To be clear, in the article it does not say the IDF were distributing the humanitarian aid. It says the IDF were coordinating the entry of the trucks.

There were two phases to the events as I understand it. As the IDF soldiers were coordinating the trucks coming in, the IDF became involved at the second when the Palestinian crowds turned from the chaos and trampling and looting of the truck giving out aid, and ran towards the incoming trucks.

FOJN · 29/02/2024 12:25

Remarkable how the IDF managed to kill so many Palestinians in what one poster is characterising as a scramble for food that the IDF were apparently in charge of distributing and yet aren't reporting casualties from "friendly fire". Seriously.

There are eyewitness reports that the people waiting for food were shelled, that would seem quite dangerous to the soldiers caught up in a scrum. Unless of course the IDF were watching from a distance and waited for enough people to gather before they started target practice.

The aid does not belong to the IDF so they need to get the fuck out of the way and allow the people who need it to access it.

If (a big if)the soldiers there thought they could get starving people to form an orderly queue then they are more deluded, incompetent and poorly trained than I thought.

There is no safe drinking water in Gaza to mix baby formula with.
Hepatitis A is rampant from drinking fecal contaminated water.
Drs are fearing cholera will soon emerge. Cholera can kill thousands a day.

IDF took over aid supervision after killing all the Gazan police that were escorting and supervising distribution.

So many different ways for the murderous Israeli government to kill Palestinians. They are only doing what I always knew they were capable of I guess.

Death toll has risen to 104 from this IDF 'crowd control' attempt

Reportedly 700 people injured and no functioning hospital in Gaza City - Al Shifa which is the main hospital has no surgeons and can only provide first aid

Back in the first week of December after the hostage exchange ceasefire failed the UN specifically and clearly warned Israel that this sort of event would be a consequence of not providing sufficient food aid - they were ignored

The UN working all over the world in famines know that these terrible stampedes for food occur when desperate starving people see food arriving

None of this stuff is accidental - all part of the plan

IDF took over aid supervision after killing all the Gazan police that were escorting and supervising distribution.

A video interview has been posted on Al Jazeera of Palestinian survivors saying that as soon as the aid trucks came into Gaza, the Israeli soldiers started firing on the crowd of unarmed Palestinian civilian men and women waiting for the aid as they started to move towards the trucks. They were then fired on by guns, tanks, artillery and drones from above. Survivors are calling it a “trap” and the reporter says it seems the Palestinians have the choice to starve to death slowly or risk being killed by the IDF just trying to get food aid.
https://aje.io/gs2k6y?update=2740149

Israel’s view: An IDF military official, quoted by the Times of Israel, said that some members of the crowd began heading towards Israeli forces who were in charge of overseeing the aid delivery in a way that “endangered” them, adding that the troops then “opened fire at the crowd”.

An earlier post on X by the IDF claimed:
“In a post on X, the Israeli military said dozens of Palestinians were injured by “trampling” as the crowd grew “violent” and began “looting” the trucks.”

‘Massacre’: 104 killed in Israeli attack while waiting for food aid in Gaza

At least 104 Palestinians waiting for food aid killed and 760 wounded after being shot at by Israeli forces in Gaza.

@Cherryon I momentarily forgot about the water.
If I do come across any initiatives that focus on baby formula then I will share.
As I know most charities just mention food but I don't know how much of that includes formula.

The UN, USAID and WFP all posted these warnings months ago. Masses of desperate starving people trying to grab a bite to eat is entirely predictable and avoidable.

Any person with a tiny bit of empathy knows this. At the moment the desperation of starving people in Gaza is being used as evidence that they are "uncivilised". It sickens me.
