So that makes it Ok, does it?

Don't put words in my mouth.

Gottseidank · 11/02/2024 23:12

I can only assume that the small squadron of Israeli propagandists on MN just enjoy arguing because they certainly aren’t doing their cause any good.

Just reading this thread has made me feel like joining one of the marches to defend Palestinians.

stomachameleon · 11/02/2024 23:17

@Gottseidank off you trot then....

Gottseidank · 11/02/2024 23:29

@stomachameleon

thanks for proving my point!

@stomachameleon

thanks for proving my point!

You would be welcome at any March! I have marched shoulder to shoulder alongside Jewish, Muslim, Christian and atheist brothers and sisters. Our bond has, and always will be the freedom for the Palestinian people, and the right of the Palestinians to defend themselves.

The most saddening part is that I believe you genuinely can’t see it.

Please point out what posts exactly you are referring to?

As those two labels have been thrown about seemingly in an attempt to silence posters.

Withdrew and then implemented a blockade by air, land and sea, aka continued occupation. Internationally recognised by pretty much everyone.

This is exactly what some are seemingly somewhat conveniently forgetting

That is disgusting and it was shown on mainstream TV not just some fringe channel or website. I genuinely could not name another Western nation that would allow such hate to be broadcast. It would also be considered a hate crime in many nations. They are journalists so maybe pro Israeli posters can now understand why we struggle to believe everything that is reported by Israeli journalists because they are definitely not impartial

"A bereaved mother bids a farewell to her infant, killed by indiscriminate Israeli airstrikes in Rafah."

This is the reality of what Israel is doing.

This is what I struggle with. These very mainstream government and journalist views. And the ongoing encouragement and proliferation of violent settlers in the West Bank, not even in Gaza.

It really doesn’t match up with “just defending ourselves”.

Blackkittypoo · 12/02/2024 08:24

@Dulra "I genuinely could not name another Western nation that would allow such hate to be broadcast. "

So you count Israel as a "Western Nation"?

I'd count them as Middle Eastern myself.

Two hostages found in rafah.

This is the reality of what Israeli is doing.

I haven't said any ifs or buts with regards to Palestinians having a state of their own. I've always been for a two state solution, ever since I was a child. Even when they were sending in suicide bombers to Israel on a regular basis and my cousin was almost killed in a nightclub explosion.

To the second part of your post, I do think you should also recognise that Hamas are also responsible for the devastation affecting Palestinians instead of solely blaming Israel but I doubt I'll ever manage to convince you of that. I mean from before October 7th. Hamas have always had a lot to answer for.

Yes, the Israeli government had a choice. I personally don't think they made the right one but I have some understanding for why they made certain decisions even if I don't agree with them. I mean, they exchanged 1027 prisoners, many of them terrorists and murderers, for one soldier a few years earlier - they were clearly hoping to avoid a similar unproportional solution this time around with a then unknown number of hostages. They had to change their strategy but I think they have made some truly deplorable choices.

You can't convince me otherwise because I don't agree with the argument " but they started it". I spent 20 years teaching and this is something I heard a lot as well "they made me do it". I used to reply "maybe they did, but you and only you are responsible for your actions".
I believe this applies to any conflict.

I agree, I say it to my kids all the time. Which is why I get proper angry when I see so many people on here and all over the internet saying terrorism is a legitimate form of resistance. It is absurd. They also have a choice. No one has forced anyone to turn to terrorism, rape, kidnapping and murder. That was an active choice people made.
