Have seen in the news - I suspect it’s the tip of the iceberg and absolutely terrifying for Jewish people everywhere. Hamas need to be stopped, hopefully this helps to reinforce that they are a terrorist group and not some romantic notion about being ‘freedom fighters’

Your use of 'Occupied Territories' shows exactly where your sympathy lies.

Well they are occupied. Are we supposed to pretend they aren’t because Hamas ?

PurpleChrayne · 15/12/2023 10:06

Gaza hasn't been occupied by Israel since 2005.

Honestly, I'm not even saying it didn't happen. I have no idea. I just know I won't take the word of an incredibly biased source from an incredibly biased poster, which I think is a perfectly reasonable thing to not want to do

In the absence of knowing what is and isn't acceptable to you here's a wiki link. You can go through the sources there and decide for yourself what you trust and what you don't. I've included a screenshot of a recent incident.

The IDF openly and apparently legally used human shields until the mid 00s when an Israeli court outlawed it. Since then it's been done illegally.

There is nothing laudable about Hamas.

The attacks on October 7th against Israeli citizens were horrific and unjustifiable.

Likewise, the indiscriminate attacks on Palestinian citizens by the Israeli government are indefensible and barbaric.

I was aghast at people marching for Palestine and Hamas in the wake of 7th October (prior to the bombing starting), and the people on social media praising Hamas’ treatment of hostages, who were taken in the midst of a massacre, are fools.

I am disgusted and horrified at the Israeli government’s genocide of Palestinian citizens, and am appalled by anyone who thinks this genocide is defensible. Blaming Hamas hiding amongst citizens as an excuse is particularly pathetic. The understanding is that civilians, and particularly children, will not be fired at.

If you can justify one side killing civilians, then you are excusing the other side also and have no argument and no moral highground.

You aren’t correct in assuming where her sympathy lies. The Occupied Territories is an official term and a legal status. My Israeli friend corrected me very swiftly when I referred to Palestine once.

What are the Occupied Territories? | IMEU

The Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) is a non-profit organization that offers journalists facts, analysis, experts, and digital resources about Palestine and Palestinians.

@Toothyfruity great, I might look in to that later. Can we go back to the discussion about Hamas spreading their terrorism all over the world now, and how big of a disaster that will be both for Jews everywhere but also for the Palestinian cause? Because obviously the world will have to step in to put a stop to Hamas, that will become their new focus. A Palestinian state and even the war in Gaza will fall further down their list of priorities as they will have to focus on preventing terrorism on their own soil instead

ChalkWitch · 15/12/2023 10:19

Getting back to the thread, as a pp said, this has implications for everyone who doesn’t adhere to Hamas’ interpretation of an accepted religion.
I believe they also reserve the right to invade Spain, which seems nuts, but then terrorists are rarely rational.

Christmascountdownpanic · 15/12/2023 10:32

Hamas terrorists arrested in Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

I imagine they are in the UK too and other stories previously about France.

They are just about hate.

One of the properties raided by police in Berlin on Thursday is on a street backing onto the Jewish Museum and Libeskind building.

Very clear what was intended here.

grayhairdontcare · 15/12/2023 12:59

Hamas are scum of the earth . A group of cowards who attack innocent people and use their own people as human shields.

OP, do you have a link please? Thanks.

Its widely reported in mainstream news yesterday - I read in The Times but I suspect it was featured in all

Struggling to see what this has to do with the thread …

Indeed. One would hope given the thread there could at least be some pretence of giving a shit about the terrorism threat from across the world. Let’s just hope we aren’t standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. Let’s also hope that democratic nations continue to share intelligence to thwart attempts

Any one who believes they are anything but terrorists have extreme biases. Hamas being freedom fighters is a ridiculous notion.

Agree with this.

Desertrose2023 · 15/12/2023 13:22

Hamas has been operating for decades with the tacit support of the Israelis in their attempts to undermine the PA and frustrate a two state solution. The sudden attempt to now craft Hamas into some ISIS like global threat is a pathetic attempt to justify and deflect the mounting criticism of Israel’s genocide campaign.

every day this genocide is allowed to continue is a stain on our collective humanity.

Wow, that's a lot of thinly veiled anti-Semitic tropes in one short post. Well done.

Hamas's founding documents from 1987 said explicitly they want to kill all Jews.
They want a world-wide jihad formed in their own idea of Islam. Anyone who does not adhere- no matter what religion - is the enemy and a target. They have said that the atrocities committed on October 7 were just the warm up act.

Anyone who does not know this has not been paying attention.

They are not fluffy freedom fighters, They are murderers and terrorists and no-one is safe from them.

Sigh, this again...

The founding charter of hamas does not say this
It's undoubtedly antisemitic but it does NOT call for the death of all Jews.

Why is this lie still being spread? The document is readily available. There are so many aspects of this conflict where establishing the truth is difficult (is this video genuine, or that photo staged etc) that too lie about what is written in black and white is really weird.

Hamas can be (and are) still bad guys without resorting to lies.

Gaza hasn't been occupied by Israel since 2005.

You are correct in that they physically withdrew troops and settlers in 2005 but there is no question they control the Gaza Strip, as is evidenced by the ease in which they were able to cut off food, water and electricity virtually overnight from a population of 2.3 million people.

Israel has also imposed a blockade of Gaza since 2007.

The continuous attempt to portray Hamas as some two bit freedom fighting operation, when it is a well funded, well armed terrorist organisation with global reach and a turnover of a billion US dollars a year, as well as yet another go at derailing a thread, is what’s truly pathetic.

just shocked at the ignorance in this post.
I mean, I shouldn't be really. If Hamas gave a press conference saying they wanted to reopen concentration camps for Jews and finish off Hitlers work, the hard left would still be whatabouting and full of excuses and justifications for antisemitism.
