Have seen in the news - I suspect it’s the tip of the iceberg and absolutely terrifying for Jewish people everywhere. Hamas need to be stopped, hopefully this helps to reinforce that they are a terrorist group and not some romantic notion about being ‘freedom fighters’

@WibbleWobbleFlop I think you misinterpreted me-I was being sarcastic. Hamas have no valid reason for the the 7th. None. I do not agree that they have a valid argument at all.

WibbleWobbleFlop · 15/12/2023 09:36

@ChalkWitch Ah, yes, sarcasm didn't translate in this instance! Thank you for the clarification!

@Humdingerydoo Here's one from this year that includes toddlers Israeli forces use five Palestinian children as human shields | Defense for Children Palestine (dci-palestine.org) Google it. You'll find more.

The relevance to it to the topic at hand is that several posters brought it up. Have you even read the thread?

Of course terrorism is a bad thing. I forgot that when dealing with people like you I had to say that at the start of every single post. In most places it goes without saying that I think terrorism is bad.

Israeli forces use five Palestinian children as human shields

Israeli forces have used at least five Palestinian children as human shields in the first part of 2023, according to documentation collected by DCIP.

Mammillaria · 15/12/2023 09:39

By "they" do you mean Hamas? Or the 5.6 billion people who practice Islam?

Mammillaria · 15/12/2023 09:39

ChanelNo19EDT · 15/12/2023 09:23

And yet, they terrify the world with their peace

So as long as we don't hear about other attacks or they keep attacking in Isreal that's 'ok'.?...

Do you have problems with reading comprehension?

I asked if there is information on this happening before because I'm interested to know if it's a first, or if they've done this before.

ChalkWitch · 15/12/2023 09:40

Yes, it doesn’t always work on here, Wibble! I was just trotting out what I call ‘Hamas Bingo’- oh they are resistance fighter, poor them, bad Israel, ad nauseum. It gets tiring.

Your use of 'Occupied Territories' shows exactly where your sympathy lies.

I mean literally everyone calls them the Occupied Territories, including the US.

I think it's probably only Israel and some pro-Israeli posters on Mumsnet who don't.

Sorry, I obviously won't click on a link that is clearly going to be biased. Anything from anywhere more neutral?

Yes, I have read the thread. Thanks for asking!

I feel like you served a few of my questions. That's to be expected though.

I've never seen that.

This whole lengthy and internationally unpopular war is a bad idea, and should end.

It is entirely and tragically predictable that continuing it would lead to it spreading beyond borders. It's very upsetting.

How would you end Hamas intentions of further attacks?

Will you send me a list of approved sources then? I presume all human rights organisations who call Israel out and all Arab media is not acceptable?

Maybe you need to broaden your news sources.

I agree with the first bit. The second bit... Yes, it was predictable to Jews all over the world that it would spread because we know what Hamas is really after and it is not a two state solution and it's not just about the ME. However, so many people on here and elsewhere on social media seem to genuinely think that's what Hamas want so I guess to them it wasn't predictable. I'm hoping they'll now be outraged rather than try to defend it and excuse it with nonsense about context. There is no context that can justify them wanting to murder people for being Jewish. I hope we can all agree on that, now that it's surely clear to everyone that's what Hamas want.

WibbleWobbleFlop · 15/12/2023 09:51

@Toothyfruity In fairness to @Humdingerydoo, it is reasonable to think Israel and Palestine would both be biased and have potential to spread their own propaganda. I tend to avoid any articles from either area. Unfortunately this does mean some very legitimate claims and stories are unread.

Anything on any neutral media anywhere? And if not, maybe time to ask yourself why

Honestly, I'm not even saying it didn't happen. I have no idea. I just know I won't take the word of an incredibly biased source from an incredibly biased poster, which I think is a perfectly reasonable thing to not want to do

Humdingerydoo · 15/12/2023 09:57

Anyway, I look forward to seeing pro-Palestine marchers etc speaking out against this openly. If they do, they're the kind of people who can hopefully one day be a part of the solution to this whole problem. So hopefully there will be lots of them!

PurpleChrayne · 15/12/2023 10:00

I'm a British Jew and I am very shaken by this.

Of course, I was aware it was a distinct possibility, but to have it proven is pretty upsetting.

Security has been tighter than usual at DD's school, and at the children's Chanukah parties we've been attending this past week.

WibbleWobbleFlop · 15/12/2023 10:02

@PurpleChrayne How disturbing that children's Chanukah parties need security.

Hamas is absolutely spreading and is no longer just a threat in Israel.

PurpleChrayne · 15/12/2023 10:02

Toothyfruity · 15/12/2023 09:07

Those who don't approve of the use of children as human shields presumably also condemn the IDF for using them?

Does anyone have information on attacks carried out outside of Israel and the Occupied Territories by Hamas? I'd be interested in learning the history of this.

This is a thread about the rising threat to Jews in the diaspora.

Your post has nothing to do with that.

They always have. It's just that now there are four police cars and six guards in stab vests, instead of two cars and two guards.
