Horrors of violence towards women on October the 7th suppressed

It looks like the UN may have been reluctant to investigate or highlight the sickening sexual violence committed on October 7th. It also appears some of the hostages may have been abused.

Was this because the horrendous violence doesn't fit in with that purely Palestinians are victims of this ongoing conflict? Are investigations into these crimes because women are viewed as second class citizens or the revelations 'muddy the waters' where some just want to see one side as the victim.

Hamas planned sexual violence as weapon of war - Israeli campaigner

An Israeli campaigner says militants planned acts of sexual violence committed in October's attack.

These men had all the time in the world to run rampant.@Silence1

Don't excuse those animals behaviour by blaming the IDF. They were fire fighting on lots of different fronts. We don't need your fake concern or anger telling us we were let down.

They wouldn't have 'failures' if they hadn't committed those atrocities or been where they shouldn't have been in the first place.

Any excuse.

DarkDayforMN · 07/12/2023 17:51

It sickens me as I see the same people on here praising the IDF for their current actions in Gaza whilst ignoring how they let their own people down.

If that is what you think is happening, I wonder at your motivations for posting that link.

All the propaganda surrounding this turns my fucking stomach, including attempts to redirect blame from the perpetrators onto other people. Can’t we even be disgusted and revolted and horrified and sad for the victims in peace, without some fucker trying to turn it into a propaganda pissing contest? This thread is not about your stupid proxy pissing contest, there are plenty of other places on the Internet for you to have that. Doing it here is yet another way of distracting from, deflecting from and suppressing the truth of what happened.

(I doubt you’ll understand this, but the invitation to have your pissing contest elsewhere is not a defence of anything done by the Israeli government or army. I don’t care about your internet war, any more than you care about the real one.)

Not with these humanists around, no.

This. 💯

I doubt the poster you are replying to would understand.

So you come on the thread with that link and trying to say Jewish people can get away with rape because of their global power but are called monsters

You have serious Jew hate and conspiracy theorist issues if you believe this

Hamas are responsible for the torture, rape and murder on that day. You claim to agree with this yet post a link to slag off Israelis. You could have posted a linl about an incident by any other nationality men but no it was Israeli men. We see you and know what you are doing. Mumsnet users are not stupid or that easily manipulated!

No amount of historical context excuses or global power conspiracy rubbish change what Hamas did or what this thread is about

You win fuckwittery post of the day and we haven't even got to lunchtime yet

I posted in reference to racial supremacy tweet.

The link did not need to be of Israeli men who rape, but it’s a case that stood out in my memory. Why was the girl not believed in the original case? It was not meant to minimise actions of Hamas.

Nor am I one to believe in conspiracy theories. The book makes a persuasive argument to reflect how race and power has a differential impact of how rape is viewed and treated. She’s a respected academic.

I’m afraid you have got me wrong if you suggest I am slagging off Israelis. Any man who rapes, whatever their nationality is a monster, which will be a common ground we share? And clearly all men don’t rape.

I tend to find using offensive language reflects badly on the person using it - but you don’t need to agree with me.

Perfect28 · 07/12/2023 19:46

I don't understand who is playing down the actions of Hamas?

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 19:55

@Happyvalleyfan is it appropriate with a thread of this title?

Happyvalleyfan · 07/12/2023 20:07

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 09:10

@Happyvalleyfan whether it's a good read or not it's being used to defend the indefensible.

I am not sure why you included that story on here. Drunken students accused of rape is regular occurrence. It looks like the authorities are dealing with it. Grenade pushed up a vagina after being raped not so much....

Or is it just the jew element?

I don’t mean to highlight a « Jewish » element, but a political one.

The UN have been called out for not condoning the rapes and mutilation more vociferously, which they should have done. But equally why are Western leaders and the press now talking about it too, in a more vociferous way?

It suddenly appears to be flooding news and SM. Not that it shouldn’t - but why now?

I do think rape is being « weaponised » but not as punishment of women we see in conflict, but as justification for deaths of others.

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 19:55

@Happyvalleyfan is it appropriate with a thread of this title?

Perhaps not, but is it not possible to be horrified by what happened on 7/10, but also worry that this is not used to justify the killing of others.

Maybe for some, it is not possible to share this worry.

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 20:17

@Happyvalleyfan if it had been highlighted when it should be have been... weeks ago... then you wouldn't be drawing that conclusion. (Flipping what your saying on its head)

The failure is on the UN etc. and why should we not highlight the rape and torture of women? Why has it taken so long to get it in the public eye?

Honestly I am not sure that it's antisemitism or just old fashioned hatred towards women. An acceptance that's 'just life'

Makes a farce of #metoo

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 20:19

@Happyvalleyfan of course but I wonder if that train of thought would be better placed on any number of the threads Talking about Israel's
This is about the suppression of what happened.

Trulywonderful · 07/12/2023 20:45

On the whole thing is obviously Israel's fault then

Good to know

Thanks

I don't believe you

The whole post was a bad faith actor trying to be sly

If it looks like a fuckwittery and sounds like fuckwittery it is normally fuckwittery

And here we go again with the conspiracy theories

Yet pretending to be posting in good faith

Seriously this one thinks people here are stupid and won't notice what that they keep slipping in conspiracy theories to their posts

So if people go on this thread to talk about only the sexual assaults and rapes we are not capable of worrying about anything else

The general public are not capable of caring about what happens to people in Israel and Gaza at the same time

Nice!

I think you are one of many posters that can only think of people in Gaza. Hence why all the spamming of threads about the pogrom or antisemitism from some people. Most the rest of us however can care about, think about and talk about more than one thing at a time.

Trulywonderful · 07/12/2023 21:20

It is difficult not to think about what has happened to this young lady and what might be happening to her if still alive

@Trulywonderful the terminally depraved things that have been done on 7/10 are unnerving for the freedom fighter troll. They're too scared to own it, so they don't want it talked about. They double down because they're wrong. But they can't change what happened on their watch for all the world to see.

You speak the truth

I know it but still it is hard to take people like this at the moment

I am heartbroken about this conflict and the pogrom. The Jew hate being spread about in the UK at the moment isn't exactly helping me feel strong either.

From what it’s worth I do think some have leaped to denial and minimisation of what happened to Israeli women on 7/10. As to how this is best challenged, I’m not sure. The UN and ICC have both offered to support victims -but Israel has little faith in them.

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 22:22

@Happyvalleyfan I wonder why....

BenitaSmith · 07/12/2023 22:28

@Trulywonderful I know. It was surreal seeing it within days of 7/10. Horrific. I do believe it's a vocal minority though. I'd say 95% of the people on these marches are totally out of their depth and will move on to the next bandwagon pretty sharpish when it all starts to unravel.

You've got that right about the next bandwagon.

It's so uncomfortable to observe.

Hand wringing over captured terrorists but only cursory notice - and sometimes out and out denial - of what they have inflicted on their innocent victims

BenitaSmith · 07/12/2023 22:48

How can the violence against women on that day can be doubted by anyone? The only surprise is the all-encompassing, unredeemable cruelty. And the victim-blaming and doubting. Most are dead and can't testify, it's for us to carry their voices.

braticus · 08/12/2023 12:16

Does anyone know when the UN will be starting their investigation into the allegations of mass rape? Have they started already?
