Here's a British Jewish charity, they post a lot of informative content too. They want a peaceful existence between Israel and an independent Palestinian state.

Yachad is a British Jewish organisation whose primary mission is to empower British Jews to support a political resolution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict.

I saw it, but you get the same on other threads (sometimes from posters complaining about Auvergne on this one), and anyone who mentions detailing is shouted down for trying to dictate who can post and where.
I ignore anything I find goady or derailing now, but there are literally pages of insults now. I imagine it will put some off the original purpose of the thread.

Those "pages of insults" are including posts from both sides of the divide. I wonder how many goady posts are contained on the Palestine christmas thread. It shows somebody's lack of class to seek out a thread to be an arsehole on, especially when the thread serves to promote goodwill.

I'm not singling out sides. There are lots of good businesses and charities on the Palestine thread, I've bought some items from one so far.
I've added a couple of charities to this thread and am still making my way through, looking for other peace-seeking charities I could support.

Cashncarry68 · 25/11/2023 11:12

@ChickHenLittle some great suggestions of support from you 😊

For my part, the best I can do is light a candle for all the victims of this wretched situation, on Christmas eve.

Jewish Voice for Peace is laughable- they uphold BDS and encourage targeting Jewish businesses. They platform antisemites and antisemitic theories, and a large proportion of their members aren’t Jewish at all. They use antisemitic tropes and language in their messaging, they’re damaging to Jews, they do not represent the majority of the Jewish community and they’re certainly not for peace. Recommending an organisation that is virulently anti-Israel and harmful to Jewish people is acting in bad faith.

It wasn't posted in bad faith, I hadn't seen antisemitism (personally) from them, however posters should ignore the suggestion if they don't want to support them. I know they are not Zionists but I understood they don't want Israel not to exist? I won't support any organisation that believes Israel shouldn't exist, I want an outcome that sees Israel and an independent Palestinian state existing in peace (as far off as that may be). I'll read more into criticism of JVP on the back of your post @25milesfromhome.

etmoiandme · 25/11/2023 12:18

JVP are a fraudulent 'Jewish' (not Jewish actually) antisemitic fringe group that is managed from...Lebanon.

@etmoiandme tbh that was quite enlightening to me as well.

Amen to that, @ChickHenLittle and fair enough, not posted in bad faith, it’s just difficult to see JVP positioning themselves so prominently when they seek to stoke division rather than promote peace and understanding. They’ve done a lot of damage, particularly in the US.

Well, I just checked the thread of recommendations for supporting Palestinian charities and businesses and there wasn't a single 'goady' post or indeed anything negative. Seems to be a one-way street if we compare the two. Maybe you're mixing up 'goady 'with posters not agreeing with certain narratives about the conflict..?

ChickHenLittle · 25/11/2023 13:14

It is good to know @25milesfromhome, I've specifically searched for them along with "anti-semitism" and quite a few pages have come up to look through.
There seem to be a few organisations working for peace with good intentions, it's a shame one has taken so much of the spotlight, with so much controversy.

@ProvincialLady1 There isn't goadiness on the businesses thread, but you'll see a lot on other threads regarding Palestine. One poster in particular (not on this thread as far as I can tell, certainly not recently if so), regularly comes on to call people thick and say what they're posting is rubbish (although not worded quite as nicely!).

I feel like a thread for any business/charity wanting the two states to find a peaceful solution involving the eradication of neither would be good to have, but also don't want to flood the topic. There are a few on both threads already, anyway. Hand In Hand is a good one, they run schools in Israel with an emphasis on students learning together, ultimately leading to existing together regardless of race or religion.
"In Israel, Jews and Arabs live in separation, fear and violence. We’re on a mission to change that.Starting with only 50 children in 1998, Hand in Hand now has six campusesand thousands of Jewish and Arab students. As Israel’s fastest-growing, integrated social movement, our work reaches thousands of people every day, proving that we can live together as Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians."

restabove · 25/11/2023 13:49

@ChickHenLittle one thing we have to remember with the goady comments is not everyone is posting with good intentions - I believe some trolls flood the boards on both sides, either posing as something they are not, or deliberately being provocative. I suggest if anyone sees anything they suspect to be doing this they report it straight away.

If you had taken the time to read the previous posts, you would have noticed that I have acknowledged my mistake regarding the quote's origin.
Definition of freedom of speech: “Freedom of speech” refers to the fundamental right to express ourselves freely, and to hold our own opinions and ideas, sharing those views with others without fear of censorship or legal sanction.
In addition, The right to freedom of expression has been recognised as a fundamental human right in the Universal Declaration of human right and International Human Right Laws by the UN.
By telling me to post on another thread, you are denying in fact me the right to express my opinions on this thread.
The irony!

Not so as freedom of speech isn't an absolute right, but a qualified right. That's why countries have restrictions and limitations in law.

It's a common misconception that freedom of speech is an absolute right. There is no irony from me, but it's clear there is intent to derail the thread and poisoning the well from you. Clearly, you're not on this thread in good faith.

Posting on the appropriate thread isn't censorship or anything close to it either. 🤦‍♂️

Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences of said speech.

Good to know it's still the same, ProvincialLady1; I've not looked since last night when I mentioned the stark contrast in mindsets, but then I'd expect nothing less on this topic

You can help by buying Israeli products in your local supermarket.

Sabra can be found in tesco, for example.

Afternoon, all. Could we politely ask you to stick to the topic of the thread, please? Derailing is against our Talk Guidelines.

https://www.adl.org/resources/blog/jewish-voice-peace-jvp-what-you-need-know

Prominent JVP activist Ariel Koren said she believed Hamas’s actions were consistent with “Palestinians’ right to resist.”

How peaceful.

@basculin is that Jewish Stockholm syndrome?

united hatzala are a first response medical emergency volunteer organization, made up of all types of Israelis; Jews (from secular all the way to Hasidic), Arabs, Druze, Bedouin and Christians. They pioneered ambucycles , paramedics on motorcycles, aiming to cut emergency response times to 90 seconds. Like MADA they have also responded to international crises and sent teams to help, sometimes at risk to their lives.
although they are are not specifically a peace charity, I believe their mission to save every life they can, and the way all the volunteers from all backgrounds work side by side, is a real, practical and natural way to foster real relationships and peace.

I started a similar thread as I didn't see this one (probably because it had dropped down the list, what with no new posts in a few days - I promise I did have a look!).
