It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve seen videos on twitter that are beyond anything I can even begin to describe. Palestinians are being murdered in their thousands and the western media is largely pretending it’s not happening.

The average age of the people who have been killed in Gaza is FIVE years old.

The UK media are not showing how the Israeli government is openly talking about, and cheerleading genocide now. Israeli government speaks about Palestinians as if they are not humans. They are saying women are targets as they can have babies. I’ve just read how, since October 7th they have taken over 5,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and tortured them. They were already routinely arresting Palestinians and taking them away from their family with no reason and no but this is not being adequately reported.

Please, please visit sites such as 972 magazine and declassified uk. The BBC, etc, unfortunately aren’t reporting the extent to what is going on.

Israel and its allies are repurposing the goals and lies of 1948 – in Gaza in 2023

Israel is openly carrying out ethnic cleansing inside Gaza, driving Palestinians outside their homeland as happened in 1948. And yet, just as during the first “Nakba”, Israel's lies and deceptions dominate the West’s media and political narrative.

@EasterIssland island I just saw this. It’s heartbreaking and disgusting. They are becoming more and more emboldened, aren’t they? They think they can just commit war crime after war crime with impunity.

Thank You!, Beautifully put by the author, I have copied & pasted below:

"THREAD: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has issued its ruling in response to South Africa’s invocation of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, accusing Israel of perpetrating the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
It has been my view that at this stage of the proceedings this case boils down to a single issue: whether the ICJ determines that South Africa has presented a plausible accusation that Israel is committing genocide,
and on this basis allows this case to move forward to a full hearing before the world’s supreme court. Everything else is secondary.
On this crucial, main point the Court’s verdict was unambiguous: the arguments presented by South Africa before the ICJ earlier this month were sufficiently compelling, and Israel’s rebuttal and denials unconvincing.
Therefore, the Court will now conduct a full and proper hearing to determine whether Israel is not only plausibly accused, but substantively responsible, for the crime of genocide.
History – with a capital H – was made today. As of 26 January 2024, Israel and its Western sponsors can no longer mobilize the Holocaust to shield themselves from accountability for their crimes against the Palestinian people.
Raz Segal, a professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies, recently made the point that the Israeli state was born in impunity, with the Holocaust serving as an all-purpose shield against accountability for its crimes. No more.
The late Edward W. Said often spoke of the Palestinian people as “the victims of the Victims”, and the difficulties many in the West had conceiving of Israel, which claims to exist as a response to the Holocaust, as a state capable of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
No more. Israel is as of today associated with the crime of genocide primarily as perpetrator, not victim. Israel’s policies towards the Palestinian people will henceforth be judged on their own merits rather than against the long shadow of European history.
The ICJ today redefined “Never Again”. It is no longer a slogan that can be used by Israel to commit and justify crimes against others, but is now one that applies equally to Israel’s actions, and Palestinian victims.
ICJ judges are not diplomats who follow instructions from their governments. It was nevertheless particularly satisfying to see the Court’s ruling delivered by the presiding American judge, Joan E. Donoghue, who additionally voted in favor of each of the provisional measures.
It was a fitting retort to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s rush to judgement that South Africa’s case was “meritless”. I’d be very surprised if Blinken even bothered to read South Africa’s submission to the ICJ.
As far as he is concerned any accusation against Israel, any challenge to its impunity, any initiative to hold it accountable for its crimes, is by definition meritless.
The provisional measures ordered by the court, which are legally binding, are in my view of secondary importance. We should not confuse the ICJ with the United Nations Security Council.
Nevertheless read them because they are important. Israel must take “immediate” measures, immediately refrain from others – including incitement – and report back in 30 days. In other words Israel is in the dock and is being carefully watched.
The fact that the Court did not order a ceasefire which would be simply ignored by Israel, with the support of its Western sponsors, was expected and hardly what this case was about.
Finally, the ICJ ruling also imposes legal obligations upon all other signatories to the Genocide Convention, including the US and EU member states.
The sun does not rise in the west, and Western hypocrisy – the foundational principle of its rules-based international order - will not end anytime soon.
But the ICJ ruling lays the ground for also holding Israel’s sponsors responsible. This is the subject of a further hearing in the US later today. END"

@BelleHathor it’s so good to read, isn’t it?

I felt so sick just before the verdict. I actually couldn’t watch it - had lost hope that anyone or anything can work without corruption. But thank goodness for the judges showing the moral backbone they so needed to.

And the SA lawyers are true heroes.

@Finallyloggedin Soooooo Good, I have been so nervous all day, I really thought that the court would be nobbled/influenced.

We must thank the judges for being so brave, there can be serious consequences for people who go against the mainstream narrative in terms of career and their personal safety. Today we are a step closer to getting Justice for the Palestinians.

Loving this tweet thread as well:

"A momentus decision by the ICJ that is likely to start the political dynamics to end Israel's genocidal war on Gaza: there should not be an Israeli exception to the prevention of genocide.

Some initial thoughts:
ICJ dismissed Israel's arguments re jurisdiction, it ignored Israel's attempts to obfuscate genocidal statements, it made no mention of Israel's argument re self-defence because it is irrelevant. Thus, it mocks the western mantra of "Israel has a right to defend itself".

The court accepted that South Africa made a strong case that is compelling enough to proceed to the merits stage, thus putting all states on notice that there is possible situation of genocide and there is a duty to prevent it.

South Africa has pierced and cracked the political wall-to-wall support to Israel's savage war in the West. Western media barely mentioned genocidal statements before S.A. initiated its litigation.

Now the ICJ is also contributing to the crumbling of pathetic and uncritical narrative that western states and media have adopted since Oct 7th. Western narrative over the war is over!

Magazines versed in war propaganda like at\theconomist called the S.A. application "flimsy", US, Canadian, German, UK officials and spokesmen dismissed the "premise" of the S.A. case. Now the ICJ shows they were pathetic.
EU, UK, German, and US Officials who met and indulged Herzog, Israel's president, and rushed to photos with Yoav Gallant, now need to confront the fact that their statements are exhibit A in the genocide case. Will European officials meet Israel's president now?

The court recited the UN and UNRWA statements that were ignored and dismissed by Israel and its backers. It thus gives them more prominence and credence.

The ICJ rejected Israel's claims regarding humanitarian assistance, thus Israel will have to show a major change, and ICJ order Israel should take immediate and effective measures to allow humanitarian assistance. This will require scaling down military actions and bombardment.

The order to cease from genocidal acts including those that are calculated to bring about the destruction of Palestinians in Gaza, having cited famine and mass displacement, means also that Israel have to drastically change its military action.
Propaganda outlets like at\nytimes who published puff pieces, claiming Aharon Barak the Israeli judge is not an emissary of his state, also stand disgraced. He was in a tiny minority.

This ruling comes at a time in which there is an increase in the controversy over the war (war aims not achieved, hostages families protests, start of anti-war demonstrations, accusations that Netanyahu is prolonging the war for his political survival).

What does the ICJ ruling mean for western legal systems? It will increase the legal activism inside domestic states in Europe and US against arms trade and complicity in the genocide.

The increase in internal disagreement over the war and external opprobrium against Israel, following the ICJ order, is likely to create the dynamics that may bring a prompt end to the genocidal war.
Should Israel dismiss the case as it dismissed before the ICC opening an investigation, and as it dismissed HRW/ Amnesty reports on apartheid, it will confirm its status as a pariah state, a rogue state......

......What does the ruling mean for anti-war demonstrations in London and elsewhere? It will give them backing and invigorate them despite the tabloids and corrupt pro-genocide political class from Labour to Tories.

What does ruling mean for BDS? More efforts now need to be made to boycott Israeli academia and economy to pressure Israel to end the apartheid and end the genocide and grant equality and freedom to all.
A question follwoing the ICJ ruling (on the risk to genocide in Gaza) to Western universities and academics:

What does it mean for the liberal character of these universities that not a single one called for a cease fire?
Regarding lack of cease fire measure: 1. there was no cease fire order in the Myanmar case. 2. the Russia v. Ukraine case is not a genocide case. 3. Courts are reluctant to order measures that will not be enforced exposing their weakness."

I firmly believe the defunding of unwra is a politically motivated move. It’s outrageous.

It's so transparent. Telegram accounts are encrypted end to end and connected to a single phone number. How was this information gotten and verified. Is there a proper chain of custody?
General speculation is that they want to replace UNWRA with a new agency where they can embed volunteers from the security services.

From the news - 12 Israeli ministers (including from Netanyahu's Likud party) participated at a conference today about rebuilding Isrseli settlements in Gaza & encouraging displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Ministers Ben Gvir, Smotrich and several others from Likud gave supportive speeches.

How can we get Palestinians to stop voting for and supporting Hammas?

Firstly by acknowledging that not all do. Apart from the fact not all Gazans voted for them, they are not in power in the West Bank.
