She purposely riled everyone up about the protests and now there are far right and football hooligans planning to counter riot and incite violence.
This is known by the police hence the heightened police presence on the day.

However it's now going to look like it's because of the pro Palestine march even though they are not planning to go anywhere near the cenotaph and its just a peaceful protest.

It will all calm down soon although not out here where we seem to house ex Hamas leaders in council houses and have Hamas supporting GPs and goodness knows who else although my issue this weekend is a lot of noise from other groups - the vast number of days for fireworks at Diwali (and I am an equal opportunities fireworks disliker Guy Fawkes is also an issue too).

A return to quietness would be good. This conduct against jews in St John's wood which is also not that far from me is not acceptable either. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/11/11/protesters-extreme-anti-semitic-signs-pro-palestinian-march/

Jewish families leaving synagogue ‘targeted’ by pro-Palestinian demonstrators

Social media footage showed protesters spraying green smoke, waving Palestinian flags and shouting from cars in north-west London

Maybe it happened today but I haven’t found the evidence yet and you’d think if 150 people were involved there would be something online, someone must have videod it. Has anyone seen the evidence from today.

It's amazing watching the downplay of inconvenient issues under the guise of just asking a question, I'm online don't know how to search to verify inconvenient issues.

The MET posted 2 hours before your post!

Metropolitan Police on X: "Officers have detained a breakaway group of around 150 people from the pro-Palestinian demonstration in Grosvenor Place. The group were firing fireworks and many are wearing face coverings. Officers are using their Section 60 and 60AA powers to detain and search those involved. t.co/4P1yzpFQcD" / X (twitter.com)

To put that into context it is around double the amount detained from the counter protests, and others are actively on a watch list from the 'pro' Palestinian march.

I can't wait for the next election where the usual crys of being infiltrated by bots happen..

The fireworks thing is odd aswell.
Fireworks were let off last week at Trafalgar Sq. The pic online ( Guardian ) about it happening today is not of Grosvenor sq, that looks like part of Trafalgar sq although it’s very blurry.

Two fireworks were let off at the end of the speeches today, the organisers asked the people to stop over their megaphone.

Maybe it happened today but I haven’t found the evidence yet and you’d think if 150 people were involved there would be something online, someone must have videod it. Has anyone seen the evidence from today.

The police don't claim the image of Grosvenor Square...it's supposedly of Grosvenor Place

And I've spoken directly to a very trusted friend who had the misfortune to pass through Waterloo station at around the time it got feisty there this evening (as reported in the Guardian) and they found the atmosphere generated by the protestors intimidating..

So it's certainly not been a case of everybody going home from the march singing Kumbaya in hushed tones.

I agree with the fireworks issue, but then I’m Catholic and having to put up with that celebration every year is a disgraceful slap in the face. Anti catholic.
Disgraceful behaviour i see outside the Synagogue’s, Jewish people are not the problem.

Discrimination and hate needs to stop.
I hope all the peaceful protestors and people just going about their lives in London today get home safe

If you want context don’t forget there were around 300,000 people at the march.
150 out of 300,000 is not a significant number.

It wont calm down for a while, we are in a situation where a loud minority who can spot dogwhistles in off the cuff remarks, have thought every new policy is arching back to the 1930's for over a decade and have openly used guilt by association and stood by it with 'educated' remarks of if 9 people are sat at a table and 1 is a nazi there is 10 nazis at the table just brush off chants and actions as just an 'expected amount of bad apples'.

If there was even needed of another proof of the age old saying that the left don't have bad tactics just bad targets rule then this is it

We should also note that they have been detained as a cautionary measure under Bravermans new rules.
To avoid potential disruption.

They are saying over 800,000 on the Guardian, so even less as an overall percentage.

I’m guessing thousands of people cramming into stations to get home would be intimidating.
Ive been at two of the marches with less people and i know what your friend is saying.
It’s a protest march.

Well done in proving my point of implying 'it's just a few bad apples' though, and ignoring the recently accepted narrative of "if you align with racists then ...."

Also to add more context the policing is different to manage a crowd of 300,000 to a crowd of a couple of hundred, retrospective arrests and visa warrants are happening for previous marches as they won't go storming in and Kettling that size crowd as any seasoned protester would know...

It still doesn't take away from the headline narrative of the day, more detained at the pro march than the counter protest, and still doesn't dispute me calling out the 'just an innocent question asking for proof'.

A brave Iranian Man with an anti Hamas sign was brutally attacked, the police just stood there.

I heard that story a few days ago (think it was mentioned on the placards thread) so it couldn’t have happened today, must of been a previous march.

Edited

It was last week, a few acted angrily and tried to take the placard from him but many others stepped in and defended him.
He had a camera on him constantly so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a deliberate provocation to 'prove' terrorist support.
If so it didn't really come off

ssd · 11/11/2023 21:51

Ds was at the march and saw no trouble and got home fine.

Surplus2requirements · 11/11/2023 21:54

Just to clarify the 150 detained haven't been arrested, they've been kettled and are being searched as its suspected they were seeking confrontation with the far right.
If they were they're stupid and I certainly don't condone it but remember that's what the far right have been trying to achieve all day.

Parkingt111 · 11/11/2023 22:01

Everyone I know who attended the march said it went peaceful without any disturbance from what they witnessed
But it was HUGE!!
Bigger than most expected
Many with their children too
This was my favourite image
The olives 🫒 zaytun symbolic of Palestine
The sacred land

I think you misunderstand the difference between detained and arrested.
Detained gives the police powers to question and search to see if an arrestable offence has occurred.

The latest from the Met is 'about' a dozen pro Palestinian protesters have been arrested

AboutYouTalk · 11/11/2023 22:19

There were more than 300,000 at the march today, way more. Good to see so many with a moral conscience. Solidarity ✊🏼

As for Braverman and Sunak, they should hang their heads in shame.

To some delicate souls I guess, not to the regulars.

What they witnessed tonight was apparently well out of the ordinary.

They haven't been kettled, they have been detained (which is not the same thing) for letting off fireworks off at police and shouting things like 'fuck the pigs'

The counter protest where also detained, not kettled in your sense of the word to prevent future issues, so the counter protest also hadn't actually done anything wrong just that there presence could cause problems

Just adding context to your context.

If you want to play semantics then go ahead, so lets wait a couple of weeks to tally up the numbers because the policing of 300,000 is a lot different to that of a couple of hundred as you being the seasoned protester from your history would obviously know...

It still doesn't negate my point of 'if you align with racists' or the 'just asking an innocent question' reply...

It's now moving the goalposts into a semantic argument.

I think you’ve missed the headline of the day.
You did see what happened didn’t you.

You did see the thugs from the counter protestors
-beating up the police and storming the cenotaph.
-Abusing Allahs name,
-burning the Palestinian flag,
-attacking people leaving the march on their way home…
-more beating up police,
-throwing missiles and metal fences.

Plus the 150 pro Palestinians weren’t arrested, they were searched and a few arrested when fireworks came near the police. The actual number actually arrested has not been reported yet.

Why not read the met police report of the day if you want to interpret the headline of the day

Accept it, the peace march was peaceful
The counter march was a disgraceful display of hate speech and thuggery.

If you don't mind me saying so..actually frankly I don''t care if you do mind - you seem well and truly stuck in "see no evil, hear no evil" when it comes to the events this evening, even when such events are reported in vaguely left of centre portions of the MSM such as the Guardian.

I think most people would accept that large numbers of police trying to engage with and then evict a very noisy mob on a station concourse isn't run of the mill, even for a demo..

Oh, BTW remember the tiny bit of help I gave you over your apparent confusion over the Grosvenor square/place issue upthread - you're welcome...
