What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?

why does a mentally disabled child throwing stones deserve to be shot from 150 metres away ? The stones couldn’t have even reached them? They can’t possibly be fearing him, he is by himself, they are tons of them and they have cars and guns. How is this justifiable to all these people going on and on supporting a country where these things go on. How is this a country the west considers a democratic ally? How do these values reflect the values of the west?

I understand the outrage of parents wanting the hostages back but Fouads parents will never ever have him back.

Show a video of a man being beaten and arrested for critising Israel’s actions on fb.
thought there was freedom of speech in Israel.

Yes, this is the "democracy" and "equal rights" for the Arab citizens of Israel.

Would it be ok for journalists to film wounded and dying children in the UK and post it online?

Yes, IF the journalists were British and the, let's say, French occupying government had prevented foreign journalists from coming in to report their action, the results of their actions AND were claiming they only target British fighters/the enemy. Also, they were denying that there's even a humanitarian crisis.

So if the only way to counter that narrative, which was enabling the continued slaughter of our adult civilians and children because the world wasn't standing up against something they didn't know was happening, yes, I'd be all for it.

In other cases, no, not ok.

I'm devastated by what's happening. I'm also SO thankful for social media. Finally we can discuss this on Mumsnet without being called anti-Semitic. And that's representative of the off line works too.

Finally people whose only experience of "the conflict" has been the evening news are seeing with their own eyes what's happening. Yes what's happening in an unprecedented level in Gaza, but also what's going on in The West Bank which has not changed. The atrocities committed by settlers that are white washed out of the news, with any retaliation being shown - to demonstrate how "dangerous" Palestinians/"Arabs" are - are finally being seen. People are being heard. Palestinians are being recognised as PEOPLE. FINALLY. And question marks are swirling around Israeli narrative FINALLY.

Social media is amazing. It does far more than the bake sales I used to attend ever could.

But it's only because Israel has out-violence's itself that people are listening. Had Gazan journalists not posted their videos, still we'd be called anti-Semitic for even saying the word Palestine.

I was shocked the IDF shot at C4. Shouldn't the UK government have said something about it? They are British journalists doing their job, and should not be threatened.

Breaking News: Israel have bombed the occupied city of Hebron in West Bank.

Can you tell me where that's being reported? Thanks

feralunderclass · 13/11/2023 11:25

167 Palestinians killed in West Bank since 7/10. Occupied West Bank is effectively 'sealed' meaning Palestinians cannot travel for work or access farms. On average 40 raids of Palestinians every night. More than 2,500 have been put into administrative detention, so no charges, no legal rights, no visitation.
It's the funeral today of the 66 year old man who was shot in the head whilst driving near a building being raided. RIP 💔

notsoready4school · 13/11/2023 12:29

I don’t think the mainstream news is reporting much, it’s really the tip of the iceberg of what is going on in West Bank.

it needs more coverage.

the reaction to the shot on channel 4 suggested they were quite used to it and I wonder if they value more the ability to report than being silenced for kicking up a fuss.

Is this the kind of ceasefire we want for Gaza as well? Because to me this doesn’t sound like ceasefire

Yes this is the "peace" that Israel desperately want to go back to, when they've finished obliterating liberating Gaza.

notsoready4school · 13/11/2023 14:09

This is what worries me about calling for ceasefire. Does it suggest back to the status quo. I hope the powers have realise that that is just not going to work.

i think Netanyahu is just trying to hold onto the war as that is the only way he stays in office and out of jail.

The problem is that you can no longer believe ANYTHING that’s shown as ‘proof’ of atrocities on either side. There is so much fakery out there.
The war is now online as much as offline.
Unless you happen to see an event in real time, you can’t trust it, even from reputable news agencies.
BBC and C4 have shown fake footage involving the infamous Mr FAFO, more than once so there is obviously no research going on before stuff is aired.
I’ve seen people ‘mourning’ moving body bags, applying fake blood and injuries to babies and children and making them scream. Whether it’s Israeli or Hamas propaganda, who knows but it’s out there by the bucketload.
One thing I do know is that I’ll never give a penny to countries / regimes where the leaders are billionaires who have squandered all the aid, i.e. Hamas.

I don’t think there is anyone questioning the truth that settlers have dramatically stepped up violence and taking land and farms from Palestinians in West Bank since 7/10. What is the point of questioning this particular one?

You might be right that it is questionable that a rabbi is actually speaking up against it, is that what you are questioning?

More about the statue

What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?
feralunderclass · 17/11/2023 12:58

On the news: 205 Palestinians dead. Ibn Sina hospital in Ramallah is under attack, IDF insisting doctors should "surrender" but they are refusing to leave patients. Ambulances have been blocked by tanks from reaching injured.

EasterIssland · 18/11/2023 00:24

Israel is expanding its attack on Palestinian hospitals to the West Bank:

“A number of emergency paramedics in Ibn Sina Hospital in #Jenin were abducted by the IOF. Doctors in the hospital refuse to comply with the IOF's request to evacuate the hospital.

The Red Crescent stated, "Occupation forces have been detaining Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance crews in front of Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin for 40 minutes until now."”

Settler violence is escalating and the Palestinians are being forced out of land illegally occupied by settlers. This C4 clip shows the over arching feeling of supremacy that the Israelis have as "God gave us the land". They set up illegal security gate posts as a means to colonize more land.

Inside the Occupied West Bank with Israeli settlers

While the world is focused on Gaza, in the occupied West Bank tension is rising and violence is spiralling. UN figures show that since the 7th October, daily...

I worry whether any truce will result in even more pressure on the West Bank
From Al Jazeera:.

At the moment, the Israeli military are arresting on average around 64 Palestinians every night in the occupied West Bank and the latest death of that 17-year-old youth in Nablus means that there have now been 227 [Palestinians] killed since October 7.

At this rate they will arrest more than any prisoner release within the window
