What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?

why does a mentally disabled child throwing stones deserve to be shot from 150 metres away ? The stones couldn’t have even reached them? They can’t possibly be fearing him, he is by himself, they are tons of them and they have cars and guns. How is this justifiable to all these people going on and on supporting a country where these things go on. How is this a country the west considers a democratic ally? How do these values reflect the values of the west?

I understand the outrage of parents wanting the hostages back but Fouads parents will never ever have him back.

Thank you for posting business ideas for Palestinians but I think you are missing the point of this thread deliberately.

Money can also not take away the fear and intimidation and injustice that they live with every day.

Also, a girl who was shot in the head on October 7th, dying off camera in her dining room whilst her family were huddled together, her Mum, Dad, brother and sister being screamed at by Hamas. I witness her death as an inhumane tragedy.

Her name was Ma'ayan. Her father was taken hostage.

Another cousin was murdered by terrorists 20 years ago.

They also arrested Ahed Tamimi’s dad a couple of weeks ago and then raided her house and took her. She was the blonde kid who famously threatened to punch an IDF soldier and then when older slapped one, eventually tried by a military court while a minor. It’s only reading about her recently I discovered her mother and other family members were shot dead in front of her by the IDF.

Her mother is alive and well.

She was arrested for allegedly inciting violence on her IG page. Her family are well known to the authorities (two cousins were convicted of murder) which is probably why she was arrested.

Obviously she should be treatedly properly whilst under arrest.

I saw a video of a little boy In hospital in Gaza, covered in black presumably from bombing and shaking from head to foot. He was only about 3. Another child, not much older, seemed to be trying to comfort him a little. I wonder where he is now.

If it is the little boy I am thinking of Motaz photographed him a week or so later on one of the refugee camps(I think) being gifted a toy car. I don't think you ever get over that level of trauma though.

EsmaCannonball · 10/11/2023 17:21

The West Bank situation is complicated. There are various terrorist groups there, including a Hamas presence, and terrorist attacks do originate there. There's also violence and intimidation from Israeli settlers towards Palestinians, and vice versa. (An attack by settlers on some Palestinian men recently was in response to an Israeli man being murdered.) Post-October 7th the IDF has been on alert for attacks from the West Bank and has become jumpy and trigger-happy. However, the reporting of IDF action in the West Bank always lacks context and makes it seem as if they are always being randomly cruel, instead of having a rationale behind their actions.

InvisibleDuck · 10/11/2023 17:25

For reference, this page quotes what Ahed Tamimi is alleged to have written online. It's really unpleasant, violently anti-Semitic stuff

https://www.thejc.com/news/israel/ahed-tamimi-arrested-after-slaughter-the-jews-post-on-instagram-5s4vbbp03o7ZAtrZljV64N

(Of course even if she did write these things she deserves to have a fair trial and not to be mistreated in custody.)

No. It's devastating for all the children on both sides.

What I want to know is why are there so many videos always circulating of settlers (mostly always male) spitting at or towards people when walking through the streets in the west bank
I won't post it here but I have seen so many.
Is it something that's seen as accepted? I rarely see anyone calling them out on it
Not even the IDF who are often seen just sort of ushering them along but never reprimanding, well atleast some of them usher them along rather than just watching. Is it possible that maybe sometimes the IDF are scared of settlers?
Or scared of the retaliation they will get if they confront them?

Of course money can’t take those things away but it’s not just “business ideas for Palestinians” - it’s a way to show Palestinians that people all over the world see them and are stepping up to facilitate the lives they want to make for themselves.

I know this is the Conflict in ME board, but it’s dehumanising and demeaning to Palestinians to constantly reduce millions of people to this reductive role: as if they’re only worth your attention when it’s in opposition to Israel and when you can sensationalise their deaths and suffering for your own purpose, with no acknowledgment that we all might have some tiny power to enable them to create more normal, prosperous lives. Time and time again I see people choose only to pay attention to them in death rather than in life, not choosing to help break the cycle of financial oppression perpetuated by both the Israeli and Palestinian governments that enmeshes them in conflict and deprivation.

The deal with the violence in the West Bank is that it’s absolutely awful, I’d like to see an end to settler expansion and any violent settlers brought to justice, I’d like to see IDF members who abuse their power held truly accountable and further abuses prevented. I’d also like to see an end to the denial that Hamas and other terrorists are in the West Bank because they play a huge part in fomenting unrest and violence there and once again, it’s reductive to pretend this isn’t a factor and that every single Palestinian in custody is a helpless, innocent victim.

Confining Palestinians to your narrow worldview like this is part of the problem and contributes nothing of any value to their reality.

TakeMe2Insanity · 10/11/2023 13:37

Well they are bombing various parts of the West Bank now, and as people keep saying theres no Hamas there. It’s just their moment ethically cleanse the area and repopulate with their over zealous trigger happy settlers.

Exactly, they are trying to eradicate as many Palestinians as they can under the justification of defence, so evil.

Exactly, the Israelis think they are better than their neighbours, that's why they will never be able to live in peace in this region.

stormy4319trevor · 10/11/2023 18:08

@25milesfromhome Very good Olive oil, sea salt, dates and herbs are available from Palestine in UK. Company called Zaytoun, Online or some health shops sell their produce, I think. I would like to see many more products from Palestinian businesses here. I don't understand why there are so few. Sorry if this is off topic.

Truly inhumane tragedies. I am really sad for their losses and trauma. Life will never be the same for them again.

Tbh I have no idea what's going on there
Because nobody really reacts to it.
Not even the people who are being spat towards which often happen to be women.
So I was hoping someone who has maybe lived in the west bank or know about it can explain
Is it just bad behaviour or is there more to it?

Parkingt111 · 10/11/2023 18:15

So for example here in the UK if groups of people regularly went round spitting at people whilst walking there would be a big commotion, Its the lack of retaliation that I am the most suprised about

How can they retaliate? Only 3% of offences caused by settlers are brought before a court. The settlers know they have free reign to kill, the Palestinians know nothing will be done. @EsmaCannonball nothing "complicated" about it. The settlements are illegal and the settlers go out of their way to humiliate, torment, injure and sometimes kill the Palestinians. They then cry victim 🤔. I've seen this myself and it enrages me. They need to go, I'd dismantle them myself if I could.

Parkingt111 · 10/11/2023 18:53

@feralunderclass that's terrible,
I knew it was bad but only 3%!
Yes it makes my blood boil too
Iv seen many many videos of elderly and young children being humiliated by settlers. The one thing I absolutely cannot stand is bullying.

-IDF soldiers attacked Palestinian man and removed his young son from the car, held him down and drew star of David on his forehead

I know a Spanish journalist in there. She was reporting yeareday during the burial of the people killed the day before. I’ll follow her and let you know if she’s been removed

Show a video of a man being beaten and arrested for critising Israel’s actions on fb.
thought there was freedom of speech in Israel.

Would it be ok for journalists to film wounded and dying children in the UK and post it online?
