Israel has bombed the gates of the Al Shalha hospital.

Everyone knows displaced families are sheltering in and near hospitals.

@OuiOuiKitty sorry why shouldn’t we all be out marching and protesting to get Iran to make Hamas stop?

Israel were attacked. They’re retaliating. That’s how it works. Hamas routinely use civilian infrastructure as a shield, and are routinely engaged in the practice of using Palestinian civilians as human shields. In consequence the civilian suffering is terrible.

Thats on Hamas.

10,000 cancer patients in last month left without treatment.
Emergency surgery has been taking place without anaesthetic or follow up medication, using light from mobile phones
White phosphorus used on hospitals
"What is taking place now is a collective death sentence" Mai Al Kaila - health minister for West Bank

A cancer hospital (I think the only one in Gaza) was targeted the other day

Go march for whatever you want. Nobody is stopping you.

All surgery has halted in Shifa hospital, no further treatment can be given 💔

I’ve decided to ignore them. They’re trying to derail the thread so I’m not keen to engage with the pro Israel propaganda. They’ll soon get bored and go to another thread.

im following the don’t feed the troll approach, you’re not talking about the hospitals ? Then im not keen on your opinion

It's almost like you don't want to hear opinions that differ from your own?

Surely if you are so right and people like me are so wrong you can easily refute us and what we say shouldn't bother you?

ColonelDax · 11/11/2023 09:34

@FOJN still waiting for your thoughts...

comments about marches , 710 , politicians around the world , etc are not about the situation of hospitals in Gaza. So no I won’t continue feeding that. There are other threads for that

ColonelDax · 11/11/2023 09:35

@parkingt111 same. I've asked you the same question three times now. Still radio silence.

I'm talking specifically about hospitals and the decision to target them.

Hiddenmnetter · 11/11/2023 09:36

No one will- you know why? Cause Iran doesn’t give a fuck. Nor do Hamas. Right now I think that Israel might be well advised to cease the attack but only because Hamas are happy about it.

Hamas are delighted about the deaths of their civilians. Hamas rejoice because it’s about swaying political opinion. The only reason people protest about Israel is because it belongs to a swathe of political institutions that require legitimacy and so a form of legitimate protest is an actual concern.

But when you are a brutal, murderous organisation whose sole mission is the destruction of the state of Israel at any cost? Then the deaths of your own civilians is a DESIRABLE outcome.

Hamas are scum. They have designed this situation and continue to play to it. Israel does the whole world a service by attempting to crush them.

FOJN · 11/11/2023 09:36

ColonelDax · 11/11/2023 09:18

It's not whataboutery.

You claimed that purely based on numbers of deaths, Israel are the bad guys. I'm staring that the principle of proportionality doesn't and isn't intended to reduce everything to the level of simple maths and body counts and then using a pertinent example from WW2 to show my point.

You didn't answer my question, where we the bad guys in WW2 purely because we killed more civilians (a lot more actually)?

If not why not as that would seem to undermine your entire point.

Good grief.

I did not claim it was based purely on numbers of deaths. Do you understand the concept of proportionality?

If 10,000 civilians die in a mission to kill 100,000 enemy combatants that would be considered proportional. That is not what is happening in Gaza.

When you talk numbers of civilian casualties in WW2 you conveniently forget 6 million European Jews. Do they count?

I hope we can agree that the Nazis were definitely the bad guys if you insist that we simplify things to goodies Vs baddies. I feel slightly demeaned by entertaining such a childish distinction.

How many members of Hamas who coordinate attacks that kill thousands have been killed in Gaza? How many launch sites that have the capacity to launch rockets that can kill tens of thousands have been destroyed?

Do you know? If not then how can you possibly say that what we are seeing isn't proportional?

PurpleCrocs3 · 11/11/2023 09:40

@ColonelDax "Nobody is saying what is happening now is good, just that's it's the inevitable end state of a terrorist organisation using human shields and then constantly threatening to wipe an entire ethnic group of people out of existence."

You do know Israel is currently in the middle of wiping an entire ethnic group of people out of existence, right?

Israel were attacked by a terrorist organisation. Israel are a democratic state. They appear to be retaliating (your word) against a civilian population ('collective punishment').

That is absolutely not 'how it works' either logically, morally or under international law.

Can you imagine if the British state had carpet bombed Dublin to retaliate for the actions of the IRA?! The solution to dealing with brutal slaughter is not brutal slaughter.

Except they aren't. 🙄

But hey don't let the truth get in the way of your pre existing opinion.

Except they aren't retailiating against the civilian population. They are targeting Hamas.

What you are seeing is the result of Hamas deliberately operating from protected places and using civilians as human shields as part of their strategy.

Blame Hamas for the deaths.

Hiddenmnetter · 11/11/2023 09:43

Unfortunately when you use human shields that’s the consequence.

And are Israel carpet bombing? I’m fairly sure that would have come up in the news. Right now it looks like targeted strikes to me.

But I’d love to know the figure for how many Palestinians have been killed over the decades by Hamas rockets misfiring? If Hamas can be destroyed Gaza will be better off. Unless Iran backs another of the Islamist jihadi groups. And they take over. And siphon off aid funds. And cut up water pipes to make rockets. And use more human shields.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/11/2023 09:44

Geneva Convention: If you use a protected place as a military object, it loses its protected status and any deaths incurred while combatants are being targeted there are the responsibility of the people who turned the location into a military object

From wider reading of more responsible sources this is correct, @ColonelDax, but unfortunately truth appears to have left the building and we're expected to believe the worst excesses of Twitter, Tiktok and various other internet sewers - and yes, some of Israel's lies too

None of it makes the loss of life on all sides any less awful, but you'd hope - though sadly in vain - for a more measured response than what a PP described as the almost masturbatory wails of "sadness" so conspicuously missing on any other conflict

hulahello · 11/11/2023 09:46

@Puzzledandpissedoff If you're so concerned about other conflicts why are you not starting other threads about them? This is a thread about Palestine, people are rightly furious about it. Please go start a new thread about the other conflicts elsewhere as you're preventing serious debate on this one with your whataboutery.

I think I addressed the available evidence in a previous post. You can scroll back for the answer if your memory is letting you down.

By 'available evidence' do you mean 'what Hamas say'? 🙄

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/11/2023 09:54

Unfortunately, hulahello, there's practically no interest on MN about other conflicts no matter how horrible - only, for patently obvious reasons, in this one

hulahello · 11/11/2023 09:57

@Puzzledandpissedoff yes it's hardly suprising because of the current shitstorm of thousands of civilian deaths, collective punishment, white phosphorous, carpet bombing and Israeli govt's history of oppression of the human rights of Palestinians. So it's kinda urgent.

But you are welcome to start a thread on other conflicts elsewhere if you are so concerned.
