How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

@Trulywonderful that's just awful to read.
I am stepping back a bit today because if I hear I am personally responsible for babies dying in incubators one more time I might weep.

Thanks for sharing.

How can anyone think directing hate at this 99 year old Jewish woman survivor is right. Appallingly.

I'm so sorry she has to endure this.

Some people just can't take it when the truth doesn't match their narrative. How dare anyone have a different opinion too. To many people on here currently remind me of the lady in the Simpson's that shouts "Just think of the children" every so often. It isn't real conversation and doesn't add anything to the debate. We are all thinking of the children I can imagine after all this is pigging mumsnet.

Just chill out today. The people that like their own echo chamber will still be here either way. I can't even be bothered to engage with them much anymore. They really don't want to hear anything apart from their own blinkered voices.

the story says that that TikTok account is run by a relative, not her. Afraid I can't see the account, but what has that relative been posting?

Stomacharmeleon · 12/11/2023 18:10

It literally says in the article what is posted on the account.
Nice bit of victim blaming though.

The most recent post is a video of her saying Shabbat Shalom. Is that acceptable to you?

Her teenage grandson was helping her run the account during covid from what I remember. She posts about her own experience of the holocaust and answers peoples questions about it.

She is quite well known these days and so is the grandson. Sure you can Google to find out more about them and the set up. He just films and posts her videos for her I believe

I haven't seen the account.
I long since learned to try to see beyond press articles.
I know how they can be manipulated.
So I question.
Otherwise I would accept the DM's take on these marches.
Which I know is rot.
Am blaming no-one.
For sure the relative seems to have more control of that account and the narrative than her.

I'm no expert, but there's this thing called Google that tells me it means 'Peaceful Sabbath'.

So you just go off what random people tell you on the internet them, how strange. Can't imagine just going off what twitter or Instagram or mumsnet etc users post. I mean apparently you would rather ask us all questions than just Google yourself to find information. So that is the only way you must be getting information I guess.

Suddenly everything is becoming a lot clearer 🤔

Personally I like to read as many articles, research and reports as I can. If I choose to post something on mumsnet I have normally checked several sources first to make sure it isn't fake.

How dare he provide a very old lady tech support. The very naughty boy. 😂

I can't believe someone is trying to find a way to justify a elderly holocaust survivor getting rape and death threats. They are really trying to twist or spin this aren't they. You can feel it developing.

This has to be an all time low for mumsnet, even taking in to consideration some of the posts we had for covid and the last two Israel/Hamas conflicts.

yes I ask questions of folk.
Your accusation that I "just go off what random people tell me on the internet" sits rather oddly with your suggestion that I google.
I am not on social media apart from this, which isn't quite social media in my view.

>>Suddenly everything is becoming a lot clearer 🤔

you do seem to have a liking for such passive aggressive phrases and fake pondering emojis.

I fear that you don't ponder much.

Anyway back to real world none google/trough of social media

Have you observed the marches at first hand?

The marches that are so easily accessible for you?

You have asked me this before either on this thread or the one about antisemitic signs, can't remember which.

My answer to you is the same

Plus why are you so interested in me and not what the rest of us are talking about?

Have I got a stalker finally?😁

I would have thought my posts during covid would have caused that. Poor Giraffe still remembers me as Truly from covid. However I will take this instead (Though a little creepy considering I am a Jew talking about antisemitism)

FordAnglia · 12/11/2023 20:26

why on earth would I stalk you?
question same - have you actually firsthand witnessed the marches?
Am interested in facts.
Not filtered through the DM.
(famous champions of anti semitic thugs)
God knows what covid has to do this.
As for you being Jewish - I have no idea about the origins of anyone on here.
I do know that I saw a lot of Jewish folk on the march I was on yesterday.
(first one I have been on - Braverman finally made the decision about whether to go for me)

Trulywonderful · 12/11/2023 20:47

Firstly it is only you and another poster that keeps going on about the DM. You seem way more determined to convince people that all information is through the DM filter than is actually true. I mean most the information and articles I have seen on mumsnet you can find from several many different sources IF YOU BOTHER TO GOOGLE

Secondly you protest to much about not knowing I am Jewish. That was a passing comment but interesting that it is what you picked up on. After all we have spoken on many a antisemitism thread and I am always open about being Jewish on those threads

Thirdly why wouldn't you want to stalk me I am Truly Wonderful 😁

Trulywonderful · 12/11/2023 20:53

How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

"Yeah! He was painting that swastika anti-zionistically not anti-semitically!"

Well people could stop believing apologists that say stuff similar to this for a start

So why all the questions? Why does it matter exactly what she's posting or who's posting on her behalf if it doesn't justify the abuse and threats?

Stomacharmeleon · 12/11/2023 22:20

@FordAnglia what did you expect the grandchild to be posting and how would it justify rape threats? Surely there is nothing that would excuse that?

Bizarre post.

Who is justifying rape threats?

If anyone is justifying rape threats against anyone I suggest you report them.

Anti semitism is clearly bad.

Rape is clearly bad.

Justifying either clearly bad.

This article, by a Jewish woman is very interesting, she's been on some of the pro Palestine marches:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/nov/13/israel-palestine-racism-antisemitism

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands took part in a history-making march for Gaza, while the hate mobs imagined by the now former home secretary Suella Braverman turned out to be the far right, who clashed with police. It’s true that the Palestine solidarity march did contain a fringe of hateful messages, but to portray these as characteristic of the whole is absurd. Protesters called for a halt to the death, catastrophe and terror being inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza.^

To understand Israel-Palestine, first understand the history of racism and antisemitism | Rachel Shabi

Anti-Jewish hate is rarely seen as part of a European racism that encompassed colonialism and slavery, says author Rachel Shabi

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/nov/13/israel-palestine-racism-antisemitism

FordAnglia · 14/11/2023 05:35

yep there were quite a few self declared jewish folks and groups on the march.

hardly likely to be on an anti semitic march.
