How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12705139/Jewish-ambassador-says-London-feels-safe-Israel-jihad-ideology-exploded-capitals-streets.html

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

I haven’t rtft but in answer to the thread question I think we need to say something when we see it

Idk how much it achieves but it’s better than standing back

And believe people rather than dismiss

Hmm. Sounds like anti Labour smears to me. We all know perfectly well that the Tories and their ilk are capable of plenty of that.

I mean the Home Secretary is even arguing with the met police about that March. Amongst other things she has turned her attention towards this week.

I am very much Labour my father was a union leader. He actually knew Jez back then.

Yes the Tory known dodgy gits and I definitely don't believe half of what they say.

However at the moment we have gone past whether you believe Tory or Labour. Both sides are saying pretty much the same thing. Some are making noises to keep their own voters happy but that is it really. Only a few hundred have are planning to quit over Starmer supportfor Israel. Labour has 6400, so a few hundred isn't much.

Think you are totally missing the point

Probably on purpose because it doesn't fit your agenda to admit that many of the organisers of protests are known Hamas associates or known Jew haters

Frankly it says a lot about peoples posts when they won't admit this is an issue

No, I’m not missing the point. Multiple posters on MN have said that they don’t like the current marches for x, y, z reason which is why they won’t attend even if they agree with a ceasefire in principle, in which case, why not organise one that you’ll feel comfortable attending?

There is a constant, sustained attack on the pro-Palestinian marches on here, so if you take issue then you should exercise your own democratic right and create your own one, rather than simply trying to limit the democratic rights of others.

Side note: I wonder how super-totally-easy it will be to not attract undesirables to your protest, and I wonder how it will feel to have the entire protest labelled in line with their actions.

RE: marches being organised by an ex-Hamas leader.

I am yet to see reliable sources that report this i.e. Beeb, Guardian, Independent. I couldn’t care less what the Torygraph or the fucking Daily Mail have to say. If the report had a leg to stand on then it would have been a much larger story and reported on across all mainstream media.

Stomacharmeleon · 09/11/2023 22:51

@OneHurtSpaggettio the Hackney gazette posted info about him being an ex Hamas leader and getting a discount on his council gaff, telling from the Israeli's on a fake passport, being investigated by the anti terrorism police etc.
I know the mail is bias but there are photos. Unless you are saying he has been super imposed/ it's not him/ he doesn't exist?

Echobelly · 09/11/2023 22:52

@feralunderclass - I find that sadly unsurprising, unfortunately.

Re organisers of the marcges, Saturday's is organised by Stop the War Coalition who protest against wars everywhere. A senior StWC guy was on the Today show on R4 this week where he was very neatly able up reply to Tory's question about 'why haven't you protested about X and Y was wars', with 'Yes, we have actually'.

Edited

Stop the war coalition had Soviet Union flags on their marches during the Ukraine/Russia ones.

They also have some very outrageous followers that blamed Ukraine for Russia invading them.

Not a great example of an organisation involved in the protests

If these types and the Hamas supporters could just be pushed out from the organisation of the protests then maybe the general public would feel the marches are for peace

That and more shouting about Hamas stopping there actions too

Do you mean this article?

A spokesperson for the force confirmed that a referral was made in June that year alleging a “breach of the Terrorist Asset-Freezing etc. Act 2010”.

The Met said: “The referral was assessed by officers from the National Terrorist Financing Investigating Unit, a specialist team based within the Met’s counterterrorism command.

“It was determined that the evidential test was not met. No further action was taken.”

To me it comes across as more gossip rag rumours, as surely if this were all true rather than merely alleged, he’d have actual charges of terrorism considering Israel is a close U.K. ally.

You can’t literally fund an terrorist organisation (that is listed as a terrorist organisation by the U.K. government) and live a life of Eastenders, school runs and pizza in Colindale at the same time with 0 convictions. It doesn’t wash.

I still see this as an attempt from the right to shut down the protest and stoke more discord in the left. Braverman has not been subtle in her efforts.

Hamas chief who 'plotted for group' lives in Barnet ex-council house

A Hamas fugitive reportedly based in Barnet ran the group’s operations and served on its ruling body.

It was one website which I fucked up on and apologised for, but I suppose you’ll leave that part out as it doesn’t suit your narrative to smear me, as well as leaving out all context.

Considering two users in two days have stalked through my post history try to make me out to be anti-Semitic — which is frankly laughable considering my personal life — I must be doing something right.

I’m sorry that suggesting that a terrorist would have actually been charged with terrorism doesn’t suit your anti-Muslim agenda, to the point that you stalked through my posts that far back to try to discredit me.

On the thread being about anti-Semitism, I am well aware of that, and it’s something I take very seriously. There have been stories of anti-Semitism that have come out since the 7th that have made me cry. Once again, if you knew me personally then you’d understand why.

I don’t think sharing information designed to stoke more fear and more division is of help to anyone, let alone do I think that it will stop anti-Semitism. So it’s actually bang on topic.

I didn't "stalk" you, I remembered the thread and what you posted. And that you doubled down and made excuses.

That’s not true from my perspective. However, if you’re Jewish and I caused you offence then I’m sorry, which I said at the time and I’m happy to say again, because it’s genuinely how I feel.

Heartbroken for this family in West Hampstead. OP asked "Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable?" I suppose here's the answer. Don't even know what to say.

That is shocking to see and so sad

There has been an update to say it may been possible other motives and the paint is pink and yellow.
Whatever the reason it is not acceptable.

News tonight, a father of hezbollah terrorist says he is proud his son died fighting Israel and would gladly sacrifice 4 sons to fight Israel. The hatred for Jewish people in the middle East. Jewish people have lived in the middle East for thousands of years as have philistines. It's sad they hate. Constantly killing each other. Jewish are surrounded and outnumbered by Arabs they are going to fight for their lifes since they have nothing to lose
Hezbollah and Hamas feel their God supports them. Religion eh

Stomacharmeleon · 11/11/2023 22:28

It was an update that's all. Same person that posted before.

Stomacharmeleon · 11/11/2023 22:29

@andmeandmeandme where are the police? This is so upsetting....

andmeandmeandme · 11/11/2023 22:34

@Stomacharmeleon I wondered that too, given the proximity to west central London you'd think there would be extra security around synagogues on a Saturday morning.

Familiarity · 11/11/2023 23:30

I hope everyone stays safe tonight. I live in N London and feel for my Jewish friends and the friends of my kids.
I hope that some of these antisemitic disgusting specimens get found and arrested.

Trulywonderful · 12/11/2023 00:02

That is so disgusting

Yet we will be told they were just asking for a ceasefire, they are a few trouble makers and nothing to do with the marches or some other lame excuse

Indeed.
The pro Palestine group was throwing fireworks at police. Letting off flares outside a synagogue in ghd colours of Palestine. Yeah peace marches, why not label it that then rather than Pro.... anti semitism has risen massively and needs addressing.
