How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

@FordAnglia what do you want a Pat on the back?
It's not for you to decide who or what is discussed on a thread anyway.
And what's 'one of those threads?'

There not going to answer. Pop up on a thread about anti-Semitism to make a goady post and then fuck off again.

Humdingerydoo · 27/02/2024 12:15

I just want to point out the similarities between this thread and the anti-Muslim thread. We suffer from very similar online, verbal and physical racist abuse yet two different threads are required 🙃

stomachamelon · 27/02/2024 12:31

Sometimes it's an MO. I can name a few tbh.

Her "excuse" is pathetic. She should be sacked for gross misconduct, not just suspended.

My parents lived through an ethnic cleansing programme in East Africa thanks, that was minimised by whites because we were brown. The UK even spent time debating whether our British passports truly made us British (remember the Enoch Powell speech?. I 100% know the difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semetism and I haven’t seen it in the UK. So I shared my experience.

You haven't seen anti-Semitism in the UK?

qunari · 27/02/2024 19:11

"I hope all the others follow" sounds a lot like a threat.

It's just so incredibly gross.

One really simple way to prevent the rise of antisemitic feeling in the UK would be to not elect George Galloway 🤯

Xenia · 01/03/2024 10:11

It is appalling.

And the election of George Galloway means I had to listen to fucking Chris Williamson from the same party as George on the radio this morning refusing to condemn Hamas. Antisemitism given a public platform, well done Rochdale.

No of course I don't want or expect a pat on the back.
I might reasonably expect some more posts on the thread answering the same question though.
Which is supposedly the question asked at the beginning of the thread.
And it is of course a fair question.
The number of people on this thread who have even attempted to address that question is tiny from my memory of skimming it.
Am afraid I can't remember if you have addressed it. Have you?
Here's looking forward to some more folks addressing the question.

There not going to answer. Pop up on a thread about anti-Semitism to make a goady post and then fuck off again.

I didn't just pop up - am on this thread upthread. Though admittedly don't sit on it.
Have answered chamelon.
How would you prevent any rise in anti semitism in the UK?

An answer without F words would be welcome.

suggest you report any anti semitic statements by his supporters or Galloway himself.
Do you have any quotes from him indicating anti semitism in the past?
Must say I have long thought him a charlatan and opportunist, like Boris's more intelligent and articulate brother, but he does undoubtedly address things which many mainstream politicos don't - and for which many despise them.
And his "cheek" comment hit the, er, spot.
I will forever now think of Starmer as the left cheek.

I don't know. We can start with the police clamping down on people who spout anti-Semitic abuse. Maybe not elect Putin-loving fucks like George Galloway and his pal Chris Williamson although that might be more of a symptom than a cause.

There are other posters like peasfullperson who have popped up and not given an opinion on the title, are you going to have a go at them?

And what does "one of those threads" mean?

well I did ask for no F words.
seems to be a vain hope with some on one side of the debate.
As for the bye election - that was a democratic vote.
We are still a democracy.
You can't call folk who voted for him anti semites without further individual proof.
As for the thread, the longer it goes on like this, the more it looks like a non question and simply an attempt to stop the marches. The big pic of the notorious Israeli ambassador complete with her press release to the Daily Mail didn't exactly promise a transparent and positive debate on how to address anti semitism.

I don't know if you've noticed but we're on fucking mumsnet. Swearing is allowed here, practically encouraged.

Yes it was a democratic vote, I didn't say otherwise. But you told me to answer the thread title and I think politicians who say that Israel shouldn't exist or who broadcast in the mouthpieces of anti-Semitic dictators is helping anti-Semitism.

As for the thread, the longer it goes on like this, the more it looks like a non question and simply an attempt to stop the marches.

How the fuck can a mumsnet thread stop marches? But if you don't like the thread you don't have to post on it.

stomachamelon · 01/03/2024 14:44

@FordAnglia so what's 'one of those threads'?

OhHelloTheres · 01/03/2024 15:03

Hilarious that someone has actually come on to this thread to try and pretend George Galloway isn't antisemitic 😂

mids2019 · 02/03/2024 14:50

Quick question about how the marches being policed? Are we satisfied?

I feel the policing is expensive but necessary and we need to support police arresting those that are shouting or displaying anti Semitic slogans.

There are now complaints about the policing and I worry the police may stand back as the force are worried about public relations and threats of legal action. I really do hope this doesn't happen and our police have the political backing to do their job properly.

James Cleverly had a point that the marchers had made their point and there was no real justification for the week after week protests in London. They are both expensive to police and importantly start to normalise anti Israeli and by extension anti semitism.

The streets of London must seem to be welcoming to the Jewish community as George Galloway.

(Talking about George maybe some in Rochdale should invite him to give his view of reducing anti semitism in the locality .. I am sure that his constituents would find that interesting 🤔)
