How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

Has anyone else been following about the baby's birth certificate that got defaced? There have now been suspensions from the outsourced company involved that carries out Home Office tasks:

Yes I saw it. Appalling.
I'm intrigued to see what the outcome will be. I'm glad the Dad went to the press about this. The more light shone on aggressions and micro aggressions against Jewish people, the better.

Februaryfeels · 22/02/2024 12:25

That birth certificate issue shows, to me anyhow, how these marches and social media have led to a lot of people feeling enabled to express their prejudices, safe in the knowledge that there will be all the flag waving, scarf wearing useful idiots backing them.

It's all awful.

stomachamelon · 22/02/2024 13:42

@Februaryfeels absolutely.

Parkingt111 · 22/02/2024 15:07

@Februaryfeels whats a scarf wearing useful idiot?
I wear a scarf, are you calling me a scarf wearing useful idiot?
What has wearing a scarf got to do with anti semitic behaviour?

The person who defaced the baby's birth certificate is a racist idiot who seems to be blinded by hate. Who an earth in their right mind does such a thing to a birth certificate. I don't see how it has anything to do with people who wear scarves

Scirocco · 22/02/2024 15:12

Fellow scarf-wearer here, @Parkingt111 .

I think the term is being used to refer to people who wear Palestinian keffiyeh scarves at protests, but (hopefully) without realising that Muslim women may also feel hurt or targeted when people say that sort of thing. "Scarf-wearing [insert expletive here]" is something we often encounter but if people perhaps aren't thinking of that in the moment of posting, they maybe don't realise that it could upset people.

Parkingt111 · 22/02/2024 15:34

Whether it's a head scarf or keffiyeh that they were referring too, it's wrong to stereotype either as useful idiots who back the actions of anti-semites as I certainly don't.
It's quite presumptuous too

Sorry you are saying people who wear a keffiyeh scarf are idiots?? Have a word with yourself!

I wasn't referring to head scarves. I think the omission of the word "head" would make that obvious

I'm also nonplussed that there might be posters who seem to be expert in trawling social media for anything about Israel, who have never come across the term "useful idiot".

If you're not a useful idiot, then I'm not referring to you

If you are Palestinian then wear what you want

But Maureen from Reading ordering one o one to wear on her right on marches, while she chants Free Free Palestine, even though she couldn't point it out on a map - that's my definition

Februaryfeels · 22/02/2024 15:48

Really @MissyB1 No need to apologise

Absolutely horrible to deface a babies birth certificate. A very petty act that the parents will never forget.

Very disappointing that some posters are using this as an opportunity to once again demonise the marches and that the unintelligent name calling from the board that is actually about the marches (where that comment probably belongs) is also taking place on this thread.

Omg this is truly horrendous

How upset and fearful would you feel

I’m quite taken aback by this

PeasfullPerson · 22/02/2024 17:11

Hopefully the publicity will make other people think twice about doing this sort of thing. Surely the person who did this will be sacked?

I hope so. Absolutely disgusting behaviour on their part.

Some people will blame anyone that is Jewish. They are ignorant anti semitic. They are vile. No thinking skills. They need arresting.

The ones chanting vile things, calling fir Intifada and blaming people who have nothing to do with the war and no control over what happens are vile.

mm, this is rather looking like one of those threads.

How many folks on it have actually positively attempted to answer the initial "question".

which I thought was:

"How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK" (sic)

I was asked as a challenge - and answered.

"One of those threads"? What does that mean?

stomachamelon · 26/02/2024 16:05

@FordAnglia what do you want a Pat on the back?
It's not for you to decide who or what is discussed on a thread anyway.
And what's 'one of those threads?'
