How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

"Tells you all you need to know about Starmer"

What, that he's not a raging anti-Semite?

Trulywonderful · 15/01/2024 09:40

She has been through so much over the years but has still spoke out. I don't always agree with her views on some subjects, however I appreciate her as a someone that can't be bullied into silence

From the Home Office:

"Today, we took action to proscribe Hizb ut-Tahrir as a terrorist organisation.

The encouragement and promotion of Hamas’ unlawful attacks, and the group’s antisemitic ideology, are appalling.

Being a member and inviting support for the group will be a criminal offence."

Good. About time. They have been actively participating in the marches so hopefully that will no longer be the case.

Definitely about time

They have been pretty openly disgusting all along

"It moved from organising protests outside embassies to recruiting young second-generation British Muslims on campuses. After it encountered opposition from the National Union of Students (NUS) and others, it pivoted towards creating front-groups based around single issues."

This is really disturbing. Anyone know the names of font-groups used by these vile people to recruit young people?

What is ‘antisemitic’ Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir and what does it want?

Ban will come into force on Friday if approved by UK parliament, putting group on par with IS and al-Qaida

Going back a few years. Not surprised to see SOAS on therehttps://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/47668/html/

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an Islamist organisation that has a record of offensive and inflammatory statements regarding Jews, non-Muslims, and gay people, amongst others. They were added to the NUS No Platform policy in 2004, which denies them the ability to be involved with the national union. However, this policy only has an advisory capacity for individual Students’ Unions. Since then, the organisation has regained some of its presence on campus via front-groups:

  • Suspected Hizb ut-Tahrir front groups have names such as Perspective Societies, Ideology Societies and Belief and Reason. Such groups have been identified in Manchester and various London universities including SOAS, Westminster, Imperial, City and Queen Mary

  • In April 2011, two suspected Hizb ut-Tahrir activists were voted onto the Westminster Student Union as President and Vice-President of Education, respectively. They have been banned from attending NUS events.

  • In February 2013, Shohana Khan, the Women’s Deputy Media Representative for Hizb ut-Tahrir, spoke at an event at City University.

Seriously!?!?

(Tap it to see the whole thing clearly)

How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?
stomachameleon · 16/01/2024 18:08

They wheeled out that Statement fairly sharpish!

Personally I think I can only say something when I see it.

The majority of blatant antisemitism I've seen (I mean properly blatant, not implied, and not merely anti Zionist) has been from people who are Muslim, and I feel uncomfortable getting into it with them. I'm a white woman with an American accent and I don't feel like I'd be heard even if I felt like I had the right to say something to a person of colour.

I would have fewer scruples about confronting another white peer. Although I may not take up the issue at that time due to not wanting to start a quarrel. Any white person who says blatantly antisemitic stuff is pretty obviously unhinged and unlikely to be shamed. I only see that stuff in the media - most antisemites I see are able to choose their words more carefully and thus have some plausible deniability.

All my Muslim friends on FB are the first to post about Jews protesting the actions of Netanyahu.

stomachameleon · 16/01/2024 18:23

@AgingDisgracefullyHere my experience is similar to yours. Minus the American accent!

Scirocco · 16/01/2024 18:41

'Muslim' does not equal 'person of colour'. And 'person of colour' does not equal 'Muslim'.

SomeCatFromJapan · 16/01/2024 18:44

Well the IHRC can take a fuck to themselves.
This is the organisation that has been banned in almost every Arab country, as well as Bangladesh, China, Russia, Pakistan, Germany, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
Yet we in the UK are expected to tolerate it?!

Now that is a statement from you I do believe and won't challenge

Not because they are Muslim but because they are your friends reposting anything they think will make Israel look bad

However yes plenty of Jewish people criticize the man and his decisions. I know I do an awful lot.

Absolutely

You only have tontead about them to wonder what took so long and why we allowed the organisation in the first place

I wonder if Dr Abdul Wahid will keep his NHS job?

Trulywonderful · 16/01/2024 20:33

SomeCatFromJapan · 16/01/2024 20:22

I wonder if Dr Abdul Wahid will keep his NHS job?

The NHS is very short of doctors

So I suggest he keeps it but has to wear an I ❤Israel t shirt and every patient it told in advance who he is and has the option of seeing a different doctor

(Seriously sack the vile man and strike him off from working as a doctor in this country. He is potentially a danger to his patients because of his extremism)

Is that because they like tokenizing Jews on social media as well? Dragging up a post more than 2 months old to bait is showing some real dedication.

stomachameleon · 16/01/2024 21:27

@25milesfromhome sorry I have just noticed that too. That's a shame.

“Since those events, [Oct 7th] HT had not condemned Hamas, a group already proscribed in the UK, but instead had hailed the attacks on Israeli citizens by saying: “If this can be done by a resistance group, imagine what a unified response from the Muslim world could achieve.”

So the IHRC doesn’t see any problem with this then?

etmoiandme · 22/01/2024 07:58

This incident at Leicester Sq is dreadful

https://twitter.com/Elad_Si/status/1749158651854504257

"The woman then called the @metpoliceuk and was told that are many such calls, they’re busy, and that the 3 should calm down".

XRAYTHIS · 22/01/2024 08:25

"Announcing the move to ban the groups’s activities, Cleverly specifically referenced its praise for the 7 October attacks by Hamas, which killed 1,200 people.
Since those events, HT had not condemned Hamas, a group already proscribed in the UK, but instead had hailed the attacks on Israeli citizens by saying: “If this can be done by a resistance group, imagine what a unified response from the Muslim world could achieve.”
Its praise for those attacks and description of Hamas as heroes on its website constituted promoting and encouraging terrorism, Cleverly said. HT has denied it was antisemitic, saying: “We do not support the Hamas group, but support the people of Palestine.”

That a group not banned in the UK but banned in most of Europe could say this and be able to recruit and organise protests. Useful idiots join these protests and join in the chanting.

Loulou599 · 22/01/2024 08:27

We do see Jewish people criticising Israels actions. Just as we see white people criticising colonialism.

Where are the Muslims criticising Islamic fundamentalism?

Why is "Don't tar with the same brush" only applicable in one direction?

SomeCatFromJapan · 22/01/2024 09:26

Tbf there are on twitter as well as some ex-Muslims. They are very brave if they're prepared to speak out and have a high profile.
