How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

@OhHelloTheres The faux innocence makes me laugh

If that poster really wanted to know then they could easily google.

I tend to just ignore the goaders looking for their "gotchas"

You seriously seriously suggest i or anyone google for a single "truth"?
If i googled anti semitism i dread to think what horrors i would turn up.
I may as well search for world peace on twatter.
I prefer the real world/facts.

Call me old fashioned but i think it fair enough to ask for evidence of anti Semitism - an extremely serious charge and of course anti semitism stinks.
"Free palestine" is not an anti semitic statement in my view.

It is when you combine it with a mob shouting Get the fuck out, and it has been preceded by harassing the man by refusing to stand for a flag of the state that has committed a brutal terrorist attack and has a mandate of genocide against his people.

A black person told to get the fuck out after refusing to stand and clap for the Confederate flag - racist or no? Comfortable using your little loophole in that scenario?

@opalfrootree it's not polite society that's the overt problem. There are the anti-Jew hate perpetrators (impolite society) and those who don't feel strongly enough to stand up and condemn it (polite society).

The news reports this morning say the immediate rise in anti-Jewish hatred happened immediately after the 7 Oct attack and before Israel had responded. Which strongly intimates that some elements of British society hate Jews and were gleeful about the attack, rather than just a bit thick /ignorant and don't know/understand millennia of Middle Eastern and European history and so now hate what they're seeing in Gaza (which is terrible), park it at Israel's door rather than Hamas', and then hate British Jewry because.... they just don't like Jews.

It's not uncommon for British people to use "race" for something other than race. You can be accused of racism when you say "Pikey" even though Irish Travellers are not a race. I have seen anti American slurs called "racist" which strikes me as even more absurd. I think some people just mean "bigoted against a particular group."

I know they know that American isn't a race and don't bother correcting them. I just kind of roll my eyes.

Biologically speaking there is no such thing as "race"
It's a construct. A construct that massively affects our lives.
So nitpicking as to whether terms like "pikey" are racist is unhelpful, irrelevant and distracting from the point.

@stomachamaleon just reading that now. What is sad is that I'm waiting for the inevitable denial, twisting or distraction to follow.

“Free Palestine” isn’t an antisemitic statement.

Daubing “Free Palestine” on a synagogue in London would be an antisemitic act.

Angrily shouting “Free Palestine” at someone Jewish would be antisemitic.

this doesn't actually seem to be the real subject of the thread, and I have seen little indeed on that very subject.
Me?
Education - teaching folk history, showing consequences. Teaching folk to identify anti semitism - and encouraging them to challenge it wherever it is found. I personally have found it in Britain now and again, Italy very definitely most probably because of the cultural dependence on the catholic church, the old eastern block - Poland and Hungary come to mind.
Encouraging folk to discuss what is anti semitic and what isn't antisemitic.

The palestinian state has committed no offence as I understand it. It is perfectly legal to fly/display the palestinian flag - if not there would have been mass mass arrests. It is not deemed to be a terrorist symbol by the British government.
I don't know the full details of the incident. I read that someone there had said that no anti semitic statements were made inside the theatre.
I see no parallel between the Condederate flag and the Palestinian flag.
Were you at the event?
If not where is your knowledge of it drawn from?

@stomachamaleon just reading that now. What is sad is that I'm waiting for the inevitable denial, twisting or distraction to follow.

I would like to think (and do think) the majority of posters who are expressing concern with the plight of Palestinians have enough cop on to know that antisemitism is wrong and should be called out, and can also recognise the difference between the Israeli government actions and Jewish people whether Israeli or not. It is very concerning that there has been such a rise in antisemitism and a lot of work needs to be done in local communities to call it out, prosecute where relevant and build back relations. No one should live in fear and face abuse because of their race colour or creed, shameful that people still do.

I work in community development and I have done a lot of work over the years on integration projects and one of the most effective I have been involved in is around storytelling. People coming together in a safe inclusive supportive environment from all backgrounds just talking abut who they are, what they believe, where they are from, what their story is. It really helps break down barriers, addresses fear of others and reminds everyone that underneath it all we are all human beings trying to get through life as best we can.
Although the rise in antisemitism is extremely distressing what it has done is shine a spotlight on it and make people more aware of it. You can't change what you cannot see.

This article is very good, thanks for sharing it. As well as its discussion of antisemitism, part of it talks about the deep connection diaspora Jews have with Israel, and what a conflicted relationship that can be at times. It resonated with me, anyway. For those posters on this board who like to dismiss the views of what they call the "pro Israel" camp as being nothing but apologists for "genocide," this presents a nuanced view that you may find helpful to understand.

Tic toc is fall of anti semitic people like this. Some of these people will post any and every claim about Jewish people. They are shared by more people, on and on. Mass hatred and believe and share enmasse.

Sadly, even on MN there is a thread full of tic toc and x and Instagram unproven, unvalidated 'look what the Idf have done' type posts. I've read some but avoid that thread. Again there are far too many people who want to encourage hatred and Jewish people are a target they have chosen. No point challenging because they appear to believe everything shared on Tic toc, X and Instagram with a claim about what it is showing must be true. Sadly they are continuing hatred whilst probably believing they are doing something for Palestinian people. They aren't they are contributing to the problem of hatred.

There are some great threads on here too with people who know much more of the history and background.

Note. Tic tok, X and Instagram is also full of islamaphobia, racism, untruths, misogyny, sexism as well as anti semitism. Cesspit of much hatred with some trying amongst to counter it all.
