How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

Not at all.
I was responding, to:

>>I've noticed both in the UK and US that certain flavours of protest will be stopped, arrests etc but others seem far, far more tolerated. It depends if they're considered right wing or left wing.

This charge of the police somehow being biased in favour of "left wing" demos was made by Suella. Amidst much concern that she was trying to interfere with/strong-arm the police. Thereby threatening liberties and the constitutional division of power. Vital safeguards. For this and related matters she was forced to resign.
I think it also worth pointing out that the UK and the US are vastly different countries politically and socially. In so so many ways. There is no transatlantic conspiracy.
Thank god Suella went - she was a menace contributing nothing to peace anywhere. In fact she relished causing division.

Interesting how Braverman's words are proving true. Two tier policing is still happening. Yet you find the problem was her.

This for instance is behaviour I'd like to see trigger arrests.

Not the UK, but that guy would’ve felt right at home with these guys in Rome on Sunday. They’re probably a little bit racist but I’m sure they could all have found some common ground…

Today, MPs have debated the establishment of a British Jewish History Month

Surging antisemitism currently means it is more important than ever to teach people British Jews’ contribution to the history of the UK and about antisemitism.

The only way to break the cycle of Jew hate in the UK is through education in schools and the wider communities

Sorry, this is South Africa not the UK but the U19 cricket captain can now no longer captain the squad because he is Jewish:

I'm really hoping that's some kind of sick joke?! What the actual fuck?! Surely the priority should be to ensure "protestors" are removed. I hope he sues them. Absolute insanity.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/01/2024 12:51

No, no joke. Things that were seemingly unsayable and undoable are suddeny being said and done.

stomachameleon · 12/01/2024 12:53

@SomeCatFromJapan how is that acceptable? So the best thing is to relieve him of his duties?

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/01/2024 13:49

@Stomacharmeleon Howard Feldman, a South African journalist, is going to cover the case in an article tomorrow if you're interested:

Antisemitism in the United States has increased 360% since October 7

3,283 incidents of violent Jew-hatred in only three months

That’s an average of 34 a day

Those are only the ones reported to police. The actual number will be far higher.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/01/2024 15:27

@stomachameleon shall do.

I'm worried about the South African Jewish community. They are a tiny minority group and SA prosecuting this case has put a target on them.
Various groups even keep agitating on social media against Jewish schools - schools ffs.

stomachameleon · 12/01/2024 16:06

Now who is ethnically cleansing? I fear for them in light of this.
I admire you trying to draw the obvious Parallels between Hamas and the SA on the genocide thread. I think whatever happens they will Continue to slate Israel though.
Whatever the outcome!

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/01/2024 16:23

Something else about South Africa and then I'll shut up and stop derailing, I promise.

This is footage of Julius Malema leading an EFF rally:
https://twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1745838630537486702

Guess who defended Malema regarding the "Kill the boer" slogan? That's right, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, one of the South African lawyers prosecuting Israel, who explicitly used the Tik tok videos of soldiers singing as proof of genocide:

https://twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1745838630537486702

hogmanayhoolie · 12/01/2024 16:39

Tik tok as proof

that sums up SA's case

It would be funny if not so pathetic to watch posters tripping over themselves to fangirl over SA without a clue about what they are cheerleading for. A bit like
the "free free Palestine" mob

I've often wondered over the years why so many Jews left South Africa about 25 years ago. I briefly attended a Jewish school where there were literally hundreds of South African families who had all left about the same time. Were they forced out or did they leave because the country had changed so much? I know some left because of violence (I remember one girl had watched her dad get shot in his head at close range so the rest of the family left shortly after!) but what about the rest? I've been curious about it the past 20 years but haven't wanted to ask the people in question as I don't really know them! More Facebook friends than actual friends, seeing as I haven't spoken to them in two decades.

Have no idea what you mean by two tier policing.
And for sure the idea that the US police and UK police are involved in some sort of transatlantic liberal lefty conspiracy pact as implied upthread I find bonkers.
I have been on a few marches demos in my time and though the police have been guilty of some bad stuff (recent coronation springs to mind) I have also often been impressed by how they do an extremely difficult job, with almost guaranteed abuse from some quarter or other.

FordAnglia · 12/01/2024 16:47

That's an interesting question, with a possibly dark answer or at least partially. Human nature and history is often more complicated and murky than some would like to think. Things are not always black and white, to use an unfortunate phrase.

Edit - answer to ohhellothere - something went wrong.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/01/2024 17:31

@OhHelloTheres at the time, a lot of people who could (had the resources, education or right to live in other countries) did leave, and in fact there is still a similarly high immigration rate of the same demographic - a big brain drain problem.
People left out of concern for the crime rates (bad even then) and economic uncertainty.

I'm not aware that there was any additional threat facing members of the South African Jewish community at that point in time, at least not that Jewish friends who also immigrated mentioned.

I would imagine feelings are different now though and it wouldn't suprise me to see an uptick in the number of Jewish South Africans moving to Israel.

This one is serious bad and seriously fucked up. I mean horrendous that they behave this way but they are doing it so openly as they know they can know get away with this stuff. This is one of the things we have been trying to tell people with these threads about antisemitism and about iffy protesters. That if these things don't go unchallenged and we ignore they will get worse and more blatant.

I saw a couple of videos of that meeting the other day, totally unreal.

To me it feels like things are deteriorating and escalating pretty fast, especially in the US. In a very short space of time we seem to have gone from "you're just making it up" or "it's only Zionists we hate actually" to "fuck it, I'm just going to do an antisemitism anyway because I can get away with it now". Not even using the coded shit as much, just full on, explicit Jew-hate.

Trulywonderful · 13/01/2024 01:10

Who knew we would start to miss the coded shit!

American has a head start over the UK. Things have been going down hill for Jewish people in America for some time. Physical attacks on Jewish people are much more common there. This was the case before the last two I/P conflicts. However the conflicts do make things way worse

I can't see how the lid can be put back on this box very easily. Unfortunately this latest conflict has given a lot of people all the ammunition they have wanted for years. I mean I have heard the Genocide accusations so many times over the years. However before Israel had killed less Palestinians in 50 years than Jordan did during black September. Now these types people have the large numbers of deaths they have been craving tonexcuse anything they want to say/do to Jewish people as far as they are concerned

It's that time again, the weekly jihadist outing to London:

They're really not even hiding it at all - this is exactly the kind of crap the Met should be coming down on like a ton of bricks, but that's clearly not going to happen.
