How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

Is Gay the one who said that Death to the Jews might be ok dependent on context?

stomachameleon · 02/01/2024 19:14

@noblegiraffe I believe that is the Gay you are referring too.

etmoiandme · 02/01/2024 19:15

No, think the context one was from Penn - Elizabeth something

etmoiandme · 02/01/2024 19:16

Oh actually you're right it was!

stomachameleon · 02/01/2024 19:16

@Trulywonderful I believe they have lost a lot of backing due to her comments. Especially money from abroad. www.cnn.com/2023/12/27/business/lauder-business-school-harvard-university/index.html

Yes

Every time I see or use the word context now I think of that moment

Not sure I will ever stop doing that. It was a terrible thing to say and sums up many people's views about protecting Jewish teenagers from prejudice on campus

I mean these are kids for fucksake. Some are only 18 and this is likely their first time living away from home. She had a duty of care to those children.

I don't always agree with Hen's views or opinions but I do on this one. He has worded this better than I could, so I will post what he says:

"Harvard's president, Claudine Gay, has just announced that she will be resigning.

Dr. Gay has been heavily criticized for her response to Hamas' October 7th attacks and her refusal to condemn calls for Jewish genocide.

I'm sure all of you expect me to go on here and do a happy dance, but I'm honestly not sure how to feel right now. I obviously disagree with Dr. Gay and the way she has handled everything about the Hamas-Israel war, but this isn't the outcome I wanted. I wanted her to see the antisemitism and do something about it, realize how badly her Jewish students were hurting. I don't need everyone to agree with me 100% for me to want them to keep their jobs. Instead of canceling people, we should educate them.

It's also difficult because, from all the sources I've read, this is far more about her alleged plagiarism than about antisemitism. So, it's not even about protecting Jewish students. Her replacement might act in exactly the same way because that's not the main problem the school had with her.

I wish it didn't have to come to this just for Jewish students to receive a little human decency."

I agree with this.

Quite a lot to unpack here from these 2 'antiracist' morons but it's the "even more than usual" that absolutely ended me.

Just say Jews, Saira

OK, so now Jewish people need to be on a list of some sort AGAIN

Also have we been seeing Jewish doctors in the NHS or elsewhere on in fairly large numbers post support for violence against anyone, like we saw NHS doctors cheering on the pogrom straight after it. No we bloody well have not.

Seriously these people are sick individuals that like to twist what Jewish people subjected to on social media into their own storyline or something

If I remember rightly a privately donating billionaire said they wouldn't get any more millions of him either until they sorted out their problem

Trulywonderful · 02/01/2024 20:30

Anyway two gone and one still left to do the right thing an resign

Hopefully this will now put added pressure on her to do the right thing. However as we all saw when questioned about prejudice on campus none of these women are keen on doing the right thing.

When it comes to hate speech like that against any group, the only thing that should depend on context is the specific disciplinary pathway used to remove the person saying it from that place or organisation - in terms of what form the GTFO is written on.

This is another sick misuse of holocaust a photo

Taghrid Al-Mawed Layton; X username @Alyaa53827320, is the chief executive officer (CEO) and trustee of British charity the Palestinian Refugee Project (PRP).

They have been saying for Jewish people to go back to Europe on many posts too

Plus when telling Jewish people when challenged they should leave Israel and go back to Europe

A right charming person this one

@Trulywonderful 😂Some of the them are so ludicrous, but it's hilarious watching the antisemites try to seriously agree with her. She's pretty much had her arse handed to her though. As did this recent winner of a Newcastle Uni award for ‘contributions to race equality and combatting discrimination’. Picking a fight with the Auschwitz Museum

@etmoiandme

Oh I know that one

She has constantly said iffy things about Jewish people not just Israel

Definitely one of those Jews run the world conspiracy types judging by some of here comments

She doesn't see Jewish people as an ethic minority group either. Just white people from Europe. I remember her making comments that suggested this a couple of years ago.

I think she is probably one of the most obnoxious anti anti racists about at the moment. I watched her on a debate show and they had to keep telling her to shut up because she wouldn't let others have their time to speak. Even when she did would interrupt every other sentence. Likes to here the sound of her own voice that one.

etmoiandme · 02/01/2024 22:20

@Trulywonderful Yes it might be the same thing I saw her on a while back. Basically talked at and over everyone, and just came across like she'd ingested a very unsafe dose of CRT.

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2024 20:14

I am genuinely shocked. There's a new film starring Anthony Hopkins as Sir Nicholas Winton and Warner Bros and others have removed any mention of Jews from the description.

From a film about Sir Nicholas Winton saving Jewish children from the Holocaust.

What. Is Jew now a dirty word?

etmoiandme · 03/01/2024 20:34

@noblegiraffe WTF! That's so depressing. They must think if they say "Jewish" no-one will want to SECURE YOUR COPY. Although we're at the stage now I almost feel thankful they didn't call them Zionist children.

XRAYTHIS · 03/01/2024 21:03

Central European Children...
Wow speechless, are they trying to erase

TheaBrandt · 03/01/2024 21:58

Omg that’s outrageous. I’ve seen it a brilliant film explicit and clear in the film that the children are all Jewish as is Nicholas Winton.

Trulywonderful · 04/01/2024 00:36

People are saying but some children were not Jewish. However as the majority were this stinks. The could have said predominantly Jewish or mostly Jewish or mentioned all the groups the nazis thought as lesser people and these children were from

However the chose to talk like these were just random European Children

Apparently some other media but not all have done this too. It is because Warner brothers spoke like this in a dodgy press release

So I think after the film Golda belly flopping they are scared this will too. You know what with all Jewish people being associated with Israel and everything!!!!

Trulywonderful · 04/01/2024 03:39

This one should know better:

Zarina Sophie Shaikh is a Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Cornwall Hospital. She also denies the rape of Israeli women by Hamas.

Amazingly Dr. Shaikh is an Executive Board Member & Diversity and Inclusion Representative at the HCSA & a Subcommittee Member Guidelines & Protocols at BAHNO Head & Neck.

You will see at the bottom of the post that on top of saying there is no evidence of rape during the pogrom, she says the antisemitism is the murder of Palestinians

(She can't spell Palestinians but who am I to correct that mistake on a post!)

mids2019 · 04/01/2024 07:00

How are public sector employees not sanctioned when they use SM to deliver anti Semitic messages?.We have had a porter at my local hospital sacked (quite rightly) for posting a series of Islamophobic posts so why are often senior medics allowed to put forward views that essentially deny the events of October 7th?

I feel there is an element of anti semitism being the allowed racism which is too my mind incomrehensible. Perhaps because some Jews have white skin colour there are those on the far left (not looking at you Dianne Abbott) who would deny Jews any claim to racism as it is reserved for those of physically distinct ethnicity?

I was listening to David Baddiel and his participation in an anti anti semitis m march and he said he was strongly offended by having a stream of social media abuse basically saying Jews living comfortable lives in the UK have no right to be offended by anti Semitic tropes when civilians are being killed in Gaza.

Again to some extent I think appallingly and semitism is the 'allowed' racism especially from the progressive 'right on' side of politics.

From your post on the other thread saying the Kindertransport memorial has been defaced with pro-Palestinian graffiti, it seems there were enough Jews involved to be worth targeting with vandalism, but not enough Jews involved that they are worth mentioning when promoting a film about them.
