How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

@Parkingt111 Exactly.

@Tripper79 I read a post the other day. It said ' the path to Auschwitz was pathed with indifference'
Meaning people didn't to be outwardly condoning antisemitism but not condemning it. Be apathetic towards it.

Good for Stephen Fry. The voice of the anti-jewish/Israeli mob (as on that US twitter link above) is loud and in the UK very noisy with marches etc but the UK contains 67m most of whom do not go on marches and are not abusive to others. However the vocal minority seem to think the whole nation supports their viewpoint when in fact the UK and US strongly support Israel, as indeed does Germany and as do many other countries.

Well you have just equated anti semitism to opposition to Israeli policy there. Yes, the US and the UK currently support the current Israeli policy. As does Starmer. That is of course why they are marching. And will I think continue to march. Despite attempts from some quarters to leverage spurious claims of anti semitism.

noblegiraffe · 27/12/2023 00:26

What about the genuine antisemitism?

Anti semitism stinks of course.

noblegiraffe · 27/12/2023 00:42

And the people slating Stephen Fry for saying that people should call it out?

stomachamaleon · 27/12/2023 00:46

@FordAnglia sadly Israeli policy is not the only reason some are marching. A minority. But still some.

some might be and should be prosecuted. But doesn't invalidate the marches or remove the need for them. People have long/always used good causes for their own ends - socialism, civil rights, feminism. Anyone who has lived and cared about any cause has seen such games. I have been on a fair lot of demos in my youth and seen a fair few things, including once on an anti apartheid march seeing one small group taunting the police about the death of PC blakelock. Have also seen agent provocateur/false flag players.

Bit of a delay posting there apparently someone at mumsnet or the IT they are using is playing silly buggers with my account today. I got a message come up that doesn't dare any resemblance to my posting history today. So something odd going on.

Anyway the point is not hearing much of an outcry about Jewish religious places or schools getting treated this way. Some people just seem to think it is a very matter of fact cause and affect of the conflict. Whereas it shouldn't be a connection to the conflict at all. People that do these things are doing it because it is a Jewish place, nothing to do with the conflict. They are just using that to justify their jew hate.

Video shows a cyclist knocking the hats off of identifiably Jewish boys and men in Stamford Hill outside a synagogue on Cazenove Road.

He has also reportedly punched people.

So this was a lovely thing for Jewish people in the UK to be dealing with whilst most people were having their Christmas dinner.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Thank you to everyone who responded to our appeal. Public reporting is really helping the Met with its investigations into suspected criminality at protests.

“We continue to seek the public’s help to identify five other men we wish to speak with in relation to this particular investigation. Please look at their pictures and get in touch if you have any information that could help us.”

Detectives are investigating a large number of allegations of criminality linked to the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza.

I don't know of the man or his political views (Frankly can't be arsed to read up about him) however nobody should have to live in fear of tortoure or death in the UK because of their politics:

Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer has said that his pro-Israel views have made him fear for his life following an arson attack on his office, and also previous incidents which have resulted in him having to wear a stab vest at public events.

I read about the arson attack on the UK MP's office. I hope the police can crack right down hard on this kind of thing but also on events like the cyclist knocking the jew men's hats off - it is not acceptable and we need very tough consequences to deter others.

Totally unacceptable

The thing about the MP is he has been threatened repeatedly from what I have read online. Even that gasoline will be thrown over him and he will be set on fire. Threats to stab him, hence why he wears a stab proof vest in public. Most the threatening happened before the recent conflict and the police don't seem to have reacted very well previously. Hopefully because his office was now actually set alight they will be taking things exstemely seriously from this point on.

I can't imagine being a politician in this country today. Even if you put the current situation aside some people are just nuts and very dangerous.
