Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Most started on him before the broadcast was even shown and they knew what he said. However they are not antisemitic just antizionist etc apparently. Good for Stephen Fry. The voice of the anti-jewish/Israeli mob (as on that US twitter link above) is loud and in the UK very noisy with marches etc but the UK contains 67m most of whom do not go on marches and are not abusive to others. However the vocal minority seem to think the whole nation supports their viewpoint when in fact the UK and US strongly support Israel, as indeed does Germany and as do many other countries.

I’ve always like Stephen Fry and I thought the speech was good. The latest YouGov polls though show that support for Israel vs Palestine which was roughly equal in November now shows a drop for Israel and a rise in support for the Palestinians. Majority are still neither or don’t know though.

Although the date says Jul 23 so maybe the one that showed equal sympathies was the latest - apologies that could be old data!

I just listened to Stephen Fry's message so thank you for sharing as i hadn't heard it before. He speaks with such compassion and I appreciated how he mentioned other people suffering too.

And I just popped back to twitter to look at the hashtag and this is the sort of thing that's being said.

@noblegiraffe is all of that hate based on his talk?? I don't know him but I heard his talk and it sounded very measured to me. Highlighting anti-semitism but also making a point of acknowledging that the Palestinians are suffering too
