How do prevent the rise of anti Semitic feeling in the UK?

Will the continuous marches in London lead to an environment where anti semitism becomes acceptable? There has been a massive rise in hate crime against Jews and surely in the UK we have a duty to prevent any platform which may lead to unjustified hatred of a group in the UK?

I feel we should feel pride we have a diverse society with a while range of ethnicities and religions but we should always act to encourage social cohesion by not allowing events that could contain messages of hate.

Although the support of the Palestinian people is absolutely reasonable in terms of free speech in a democratic society and it is reasonable to comment on the actions of the Israeli state at times the marches in a lot of major British cities have the danger of including terrorist apologists.

Jewish ambassador says London feels less safe than Israel

Tzipi Hotovely told the Daily Telegraph that the Jewish community felt fear due to 'jihad ideology' witnessed during pro-Palestinian protests in the capital city over the past month.

What an odd thing to say....

I am glad they kept Tommy Robinson away from today's march.

I'm Jewish and didn't join - I'm a bit uncomfortable that it feels like some people behind it are actually just calling any criticism of Israel or support for a ceasefire 'antisemitism' because it makes them uncomfortable. Personally as Jews I think we need to sit with the discomfort created by Israel's actions rather than trying to make it go away. I'm both frustrated by and have some sympathy with those Jews who feel this way - many really do feel the world is against us and Israel is the only safe refuge so criticism of it scares them because they fear having the protection of Israel taken away for them. Personally I think there is not a future for Israel in being this aggressive, but I have seen some otherwise rational people desperately trying to find reasons to excuse it - because they are scared.

I am rolling my eyes

At around 16:40hrs on Saturday, 25 November, the men were walking along Manor Park Gardens when they were approached by two men who reportedly made antisemitic remarks and grabbed one of the men by the arm.

I see that US University Penn has lost 100,000,000 dollars in donation due to its anti semitism. There are mounting calls for the resignation of president of the University.

Penn, Harvard and MIT seem to gave rampant anti semitism. They all need addressing.

Good, these people need to be called out on their hate/lack of tackling antisemitism. Plus action needs to be taken to get them removed from places their supposed to help make inclusive

Yes, I'd forgotten about this thread!

Potentially we could do with losing the UK bit in the title but still lots of room on it to continue the conversations and links so saves having to start a new thread. New threads get more space hassle don't they.

We will probably get someone on here again saying some links or conversations are not about UK antisemitism. They did before even though the conversation had moved on somewhat. We can all shout deflection if that happens again 😁

etmoiandme · 08/12/2023 12:48

@Trulywonderful Well, the derailers and deflectors are probably best totally ignored now I think. And I certainly look forward to being told I don't understand what antisemitism is and why our own feelings are wrong actually and let me TELL you why. Is Jewsplaining a term? Anyway, c'est la norme maintenant!

Yes Jewsplaining is a term some people use for what you just described

I prefer Jew hating fuckwittery but then I like to get fuckwit in at least one post directed at hate crime apologists every day. Don't swear at all in normal life. Have to remind professional at work. So it gets the annoyance and frustration out of my system in a safe space.

etmoiandme · 08/12/2023 13:15

@Trulywonderful In normal life I often swear in French. It's a wonderful thing that generally escapes the target of my scorn.

Two women beat a Jewish woman unconscious in London, then continuing to beat her limp body.

I hope British schools can start using this game to teach about the Holocaust. It lets the students interact and makes the whole thing a little bit more real for them. Of course without anything being to horrific.

"Nearly 1/4 of Americans under 30 think the Holocaust is a myth". (Sorry I realise this thread is about the UK but even though I'm acutely aware there's a real problem among Gen Z I'm pretty gobsmacked at this).

That is OK. I just posted the front cover of a magazine. You posted graphs, I like a nice graph

Though these ones are less nice and more shocking

Not the UK but still

Horrifying antisemitic attack in Brooklyn on the first night of Hanukkah - father of five Joshua Merenfeld was beaten, robbed, and called a “dirty Jew” Thursday evening.
