Conflict in the Middle East

Is anyone's mental health affected by simply reading about the horrors of October 7th

I keep reading details in the Daily Mail and I know journalists have been given a video of the atrocities but it is absolutely harrowing. I understand large broadcasters can not go into detail as the events were to shocking for a general audience and in reality I think even written descriptions are worse than any thing I have read or watched.

Has anyone felt some outlet to express disgust is helpful (as some sort of therapy)?

@Milkandhoneybees
You wanted to see a credible source for the bit about hands and feet cut off - from 05:44 here, this sort of thing is mentioned by Indian journalist Gaurav Sawant, who viewed the Hamas bodycam footage and describes how a family breakfast turned into unimaginable horror. I won't describe it here, as it will give me nightmares for the rest of my life, but maybe this is what you want to see/hear?

Gaurav Sawant Describes The Bodycam Footage Of October 7 Hamas Horror

This is the first-hand account of Gaurav Sawant, who reported from Israel and West Bank amdist the ongoing war. Gaurav was one of the few journalists who saw...

Why has no other journalist other than one that hates Muslims, cared to mention it? They were all shown the same thing.

He wrote an article a few days ago quoting an Indian ambassador in saying that Israel is trying its best to get aid into Gaza. This could not be any further from the truth.

India has been one of the main sources of fake news regarding Israel/Gaza:

Shifting politics make India a hotbed for Israel-Hamas war misinformation

Social media accounts spread pro-Israel content as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks closer ties with Israel.

The accounts from the 7th October massacre are the worst I’ve ever read, and I’ve been trying to avoid them. I can’t get some of the images out of my head.

I can’t get the images out of my head of the thousands of babies and children. Some of the images will remain with me forever. It’s such a sad sad time

@Totalblindnessofthesoul you are being ridiculous they are people she knows. Of course she is going to care more.
Virtue signalling at its worst....
It's not racist it's real life.

So would it be ok for me to say I personally know some Palestinian families who were massacred and therefore sympathise more with Palestinian children than those of Israelis?

Some interesting comments here eg

“People with jobs, security, equal rights and their basic needs met are far less likely to turn into terrorists. We could learn a lot from how other nations have managed to live in a multicultural society and reduce or even eliminate domestic terrorism. They didn’t get to a place of relative peace and security through gradual or continued dehumanisation of an ethnicity.”

Several other Middle Eastern countries have from the outside the image of* *a place of relative peace. They are indeed multicultural societies yet their peace depends on the strict infringement of personal liberties of some of their "citizens". These same countries are the ones who do not want to be involved directly in war. They like their lives too much as they are enjoying their prosperity.

You can also apply that quote in reverse - why are Hamas not doing those things for their people? Oh yes there is the equivalent of that link you gave

"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it"

Edited

You’re going to need to be specific about which countries you’re referring to in order for me to respond. I assume are referring to a GCC country? Infringement of which liberties?

I don’t quite understand your point. Are you saying that a country can only have peace if it simultaneously encroaches on the liberties of its citizens?

I think we would be perfectly fine and terrorism-free in the UK if the UK hadn’t decided to commit atrocities in Muslim countries all in the name of oil and fossil fuel.

You can also apply that quote in reverse - why are Hamas not doing those things for their people?

Erm, at which point did I say that I think Hamas are a competent government and are for their people?

I don’t like them one bit. Unpopular opinion, but I think that religion and politics should be entirely separate. I am pro-secular government policy and law.

Now with that being said, even if there was a competent, secular government, Gaza and the West Bank could never achieve those things.

Here are some of the reasons why:

A precious resource: how Israel uses water to control the West Bank | Palestinian territories | The Guardian

In occupied West Bank villages, Israeli-owned farms are flourishing, while Palestinians often do not have enough water to drink

@Milkandhoneybees That's interesting about India!

Hmm, it looks as though this particular story originates with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who apparently described footage he had seen.

I guess the only way we can be sure is to browse hamas-massacre.net, but that is absolutely the very last thing you're going to catch me doing...!

IAmtheVampiresWife · 06/11/2023 04:00

@Milkandhoneybees I wasn't actually looking for a response from you.

@Creatingusernamesismygame the whataboutery.....
If that's how you feel fill your boots. Just don't tell other people they can't.
