At what point will it stop? Why are the Palestinians seen as vermin? Ethnic cleansing is what this is.

I think, regarding all the traumatised MNetters who 'cannot sleep tonight' due to to imagery coming out of Gaza,
you must remember who started this.

It was the elected Hamas who chose to destroy this uneasy truce.

Those babies would still be alive tonight if Hamas hadn't chosen to sacrifice them on the altar of 'Palestine, from river to sea'.

Hamas started this.

I didn't realise this all started 2 weeks ago. Ridiculous cruel post.

Firstly, who started it doesn't wash in primary school, never mind the Middle East.

Secondly Hamas were elected in 2006 and since them there haven't been free fair elections.

Thirdly, even if we are twats and look to who started it, you can pick one of a thousand points in history and say a different state or set of people started it. Was it Great Britain? At points. The US? Also yes. Israel itself? Yup. Hamas? Yes. God? If you want to go back a few thousand years, also yes.

It's a meaningless statement. The land is contested, and claimed and everyone has blood on their hands. Everyone.

Huwipulotu · 22/10/2023 23:32

Let us remember that the land now called Israel was over 90% occupied by Palestinians in late 1800’s and it was the British who decided to “give” this Palestinian land to Jewish settlers after WW1

let us not forget that the Palestinians are only fighting for what was theirs and has been their for centuries

let us not forget the Israeli government were part of the massacre of women and children in Lebanon in the Sabra and Shatila massacre.

NOTHING is justification for the way the Israeli government are behaving towards the Palestinians. Absolutely nothing.

Rachelw84 · 22/10/2023 23:33

It’s clear there are a lot of people in this country have no empathy and compassionate for the indiscriminate killing of innocent men, women and children. They think it is justified because of what a largely unconnected group did.

Humans can be so cruel.

Fordian · 22/10/2023 23:21

My opinion. Hamas were expecting to do a lil disruptive incursion into Israel, 7/10.

Due to the ridiculousness of Netanyahu's political ambition, Israel had taken its eye off the ball.

Undertrained, ill-disciplined young Palestinian men ran amok. Hamas weren't expecting their level of cruelty and butchery.

Thus Israel were given a free 'retaliation' pass.

We must remember:

Hamas regard Palestinians as dispensable martyrs.

Palestinians voted Hamas in.

The Palestinians have been given many opportunities to work alongside Israel but have rejected all, spurred on by proxies, whose wars they're dying for.

Gaza's neighbours do not want these lawless, young, uneducated, manipulated, indoctrinated people in their hands. Why? 🤔

Hamas' sworn intent is the destruction, the eradication of Israel. From the river to the sea.

Let's remember all this when we 'cry for Gaza'.

Shame on you, I despair reading posts like this.

Yes, absolutely this. People ignore the layers of history and oppression that have led us to where we are today.

Fordian · 22/10/2023 23:35

A quote from earlier:

"But regardless it's pretty common knowledge isn't it that Hamas use civilians as human shields?

yes. And it’s common knowledge that the Israeli government view innocent Palestinians as low-value collateral and don’t give two hoots if they murder 100 of them to kill one Hamas terrorist"

Bear in mind one Israeli pilot was exchanged for 1000 Palestinian prisoners.
That probably tells you what you need to know.

It's not just The West who do not value their lives, much of the Islamic Middle East doesn't, either.

Hamas certainly regards the citizens of Gaza as happy martyrs.

MariaLuna · 22/10/2023 23:35

And America wants to have power and influence in the Middle East so they achieve that by paying for the Israeli military.

Have you read any history? so many people talk so much crap without knowing anything
Did you read up about WWII? Visit Amsterdam and Anne Frank House?

Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East..... Think about that for a moment.

Do you vote? Be thankful that you can have a say in how you want your future to be.

Putin and Trump want world dominion too. Fucking idiots.
Never works. But we humans will pay the price....

Doesn't stop posters repeatedly saying Hamas are elected. Which they aren't.

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 22/10/2023 23:39

Sad to see the ‘Zionist’ euphemism, ‘criticising Israel isn’t antisemitic’ (it is if people are fixated with criticising Israel: it’s a giveaway, Israel being the Jewish homeland and single Jewish state), and ‘the land is Palestinian’ all being thrown around.

If people think that Jews are terrible people and that Israel should be dissolved, just say it. At least we’d know where we all stand.

The irony of that is lost on them though, when it can be used to blame the innocent civilians being murdered by Israel.

Yea, Israel is a democracy. But it locks up children, tears down Palestinian houses or gives them to people from America/Europe.

It also bombs citizens of their own country and keeps them in the worlds largest open air prison.

Lovely democracy.

There is no other democracy in the world that treats their own citizens in that way.

Israel is one of the worst countries in the Middle East and should not be put on a pedestal because it is a ‘democracy’

EsmaCannonball · 22/10/2023 23:40

If you never went to war against any country that hadn't had elections for many years that would mean you would never go to war with any dictatorship or totalitarian regime, the very regimes that most need opposing.

Incidentally, the teenage girl who was allegedly beaten into a coma for not covering her hair by Hamas's biggest fans, Iran, is now supposedly brain dead. I guess some people just want more of that in the world.

Efacsen · 22/10/2023 23:41

Toothyfruity · 22/10/2023 23:16

Pro Israeli groups pay millions in political donations to American politicians to buy influence.

And America wants to have power and influence in the Middle East so they achieve that by paying for the Israeli military.

I'm sure there's a Jewish vote too but that's not as important as the previous two points. And not all Jews are Zionists.

It's partly historical too

10-15 years ago there were more Jews living in Manhattan than in Israel, [And New York was the main focus of the diaspora]

As Israel has grown that's no longer the case

It's so confusing! People on here repeatedly saying Israel stole land from the Palestinians, yet unable to follow that thought through to what that actually means.

It only means one thing doesn't it?

Classic right wing racist xenophobia. There are Palestinian surgeons, doctors, writers and academics. There used to be a rather good university there too - not sure if it's still standing. You did stop short of calling Palestinians 'savages', well done.

I'm quoting a fact. Are you calling Egyptians racist for stating that they don't want them? Because they don't want 'the economic and POLITICAL burden'.

Whatever could they mean by that, sweet naïf?

It means that Israel stole land from Palestinians surely? I mean that's a fact. It's still happening.

Flowersfield · 22/10/2023 23:47

I am sick of people using Hamas as an excuse to carry out genocide. Imagine theres a school shooter but then everybody agrees to bomb the school so that they can get rid of the school shooter. Who in their right mind would think this is acceptable? Seriously people need to stop letting mainstream media convince them that the oppressors are being oppressed.

Yes it can only mean one thing. That Israel stole and continue to steal land.

Hateful nation

Whydidypumakeathread · 22/10/2023 19:33

Why make a thread when you don't want to discuss anything? If Israel laid down arms they would be destroyed. If Hamas did there would be a 2 state solution.

This same comment is doing the rounds. You all seem to cut and paste and stick to the same rhetoric. Hamas have nothing to do with West Bank. Why then are innocent Palestinians being killed every day and their land and homes stolen? Not convinced IDF and Netanyahu would ever want this. They have stolen so much land from the Palestinians already.

hamstersarse · 22/10/2023 23:49

I am not sure if you are being deliberately obtuse, but the ideology from Hamas and Palestinians is that Israel is literally stolen land.

I said this on another thread and I think it bears repeating. The knife cuts both ways. If no one is allowed to say bad things about the appalling behaviour of the Israeli government, about the illegal settlements, about the dead babies, and it's deemed anti-Semitic, a fair few people, whether because of ignorance or a leaning that way, WILL think, "oh Israel reflects on all Jews". They may not know Jews IRL.

I think it's incredibly dangerous to say criticism of Israel is criticism of Jews. Firstly because the Jewish friends I have are pretty cutting about Israel themselves. We're all pretty buggered for a solution when we talk about it, but in support of the current Israeli choices they are not. But secondly because it's dangerous. Equating anything Israel does with all Jews no matter where they live or what they think means what Netanyahu and his mates do is on them all. That's scary.

I can criticise any number of countries for their actions without feeling any particular way about their religions. As an atheist, I think they are all cobblers. Judaism has tat least a tradition of respect for knowledge, logic and thought. It's probably one of the least worst.

ketchup07070 · 22/10/2023 23:50

@Fordian You made a huge generalisation of Palestinians as lawless and uneducated, among other things. It is simply untrue and implicitly racist, akin to calling them 'savages'. You also have clearly not lived. You will never find any country where every person is the same, nor any ethnic group.
