Conflict in the Middle East

To think Hamas have given Israel the excuse they were looking for?

MistyMooPup · 10/10/2023 12:14

Not all of Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will obliterate Hamas. But undoubtedly hundred if not thousands of civilians will now be killed.

I’m not sure what Hamas thought the end game if this would be? What have the Iranians convinced them of? This was a sophisticated operation, outside help was given for definite.

I’m not sure it’s possible to rationalise with dehumanised terrorists, neither am I sure what the end game will be, but I just can’t understand what Hamas expected if not a total war/strikes from Israel in retaliation.

I think it’s absolutely disgusting what Hamas are doing - barbaric.

But…I think I would say that the Israeli treatment of Palestine is worse that just less than perfect. Anyone I have spoken to that has visited Gaza has described horrific treatment of Palestinians by Israel. Raining bombs on a small area where children live, depriving them of human rights and movement is also terrible.

It seems like only really desperate people elect organisations like Hamas because they see that as their only chance of freedom.

And for whoever asked why people don’t call on Egypt to help Gaza as their neighbours, I think that’s because Egypt aren’t the country that are fencing them in and bombing them?

Hamas are hardly a legitimate government, there hasn't been an election since 2006, and I highly doubt that one was free and fair.

What makes you say that Egypt aren't fencing them in? They share a land border too, you know.

Hamas has strong support amongst its civilians…

Says who? There hasn't been an election in nearly two decades and I highly doubt that Yougov are conducting polls there.

Bettyboopsbonnet · 10/10/2023 20:22

Hamas won 2006 parliamentary elections elections and in 2007 violently seized control of the Gaza Strip from the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority.
A Palestinian legislative election was scheduled for 22 May 2021, according to a decree by President Mahoud Abbas on 15 January 2021, but was indefinitely postponed on 29 April 2021.

I saw a bunch of men chanting. I don't recall seeing women.

I'm confused as to how they got the weapons considering Gaza's borders are controlled by the Israeli government. It might be a false flag, it might not but it wouldn't surprise me.

Ridiculous, conspiracy theory nonsense. The weapons are smuggled in via tunnels. Probably from Iran. There is copious information on this. If they can dig tunnels, they can dig bomb shelters. But they don't do that do they? Because they care more about war and the destruction of Israel than protecting the Palestinian people. No excuses anymore.

You think Israel actually wanted many hundreds of their own civilians slaughtered?
Jesus.
I often think some of these thread contain barely concealed anti-semitism.

They are anti Semitic, absolutely.
And victim blaming.

The UK government has done things I don't agree with. That many people would not agree with. According to a lot of people on this thread and all the Hamas sympathisers celebrating in this country and around the world, that means any of us deserve to be raped, murdered in our own home or on the way to Asda to pick up some groceries. After all, we are British, maybe we even have family members who are somehow part of the establishment, or joined the army or police, so we are all asking for it.

No action by any government warrants what has happened this week. Hamas could have broken out and just targeted military bases to make their point.

They didn't stop there, they slaughtered innocent civilians just for the hell of it. They were not "collateral damage" (terrible term) as part of another operation. They were actively targeted. It was planned that way. They didn't just happen across the festival, it was planned.

There is no moral equivalence to excuse any of it, and anyone who tries to is repugnant.

Myrkwood · 10/10/2023 20:20

Saw some of the sick fucks were celebrating locally (Birmingham! In the fucking UK!)

Celebrating babies getting their heads sawn off. Celebrating girls being gang raped and murdered then paraded before hundred of cheering, fucking CHEERING civilians.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12615031/Hamas-terrorists-beheaded-babies-kibbutz-slaughter-IDF-soldiers-reveal-horrific-scenes-carnage-discovered-site-scores-people-massacred.html

No sympathy anymore. Nothing but rabid animals.

Hard to hear people celebrating here

Too much

I saw a bunch of men chanting. I don't recall seeing women.

I've only seen men in Gaza itself.

I've seen women cheering, mocking and celebrating in London, New York, Sydney and more.

Bettyboopsbonnet · 10/10/2023 20:38

@Myrkwood The Palestinian citizens voted for Hamas in 2006.

Now, I fear, many of them may not live long enough to regret that foolish decision.

Anothenamechange · 10/10/2023 20:41

You think that people horrified by the idea of babies beheaded with spades and women paraded naked through the streets after being raped is virtue signalling? Are you not horrified by that?

Could you state what you mean in clear language please rather than vague insinuations?

If you believe whatever you are implying to be true, then have the courage of your convictions and fucking say it.

Lonesomefetter · 10/10/2023 15:00

The only reason people are pretend weeping for isreali people is because it's on the news. You drive by virtue signallers.

The only reason people are pretend weeping for Palestinian people is because it's on the news. You drive by virtue signallers.

Also, you had to decapitalise the i in Israel intentionally...

soddingspiderseason · 10/10/2023 20:48

"People make money during wars. Just look at who is benefiting and who is involved . . .
Wars don't just start out of the blue."

Please explain? Because as it stands, this just looks like a ridiculously tedious antisemitic trope.

Myrkwood · 10/10/2023 20:48

I only saw men cheering in Gaza but there are men AND women cheering the decapitated babies, raped and murdered women (even a pregnant woman who had her stomach ripped open and the FETUS decapitated) in the UK.

Frankly the life of a woman in Gaza, even if she opposes the beliefs of all those around her, and surrounded by those men who were cheering these acts as some sort of heroism, must be so horrible that a quick death by bomb is probably preferable.

I think Hamas has destroyed any sympathy they ever had in most sane people eyes.

20questions · 10/10/2023 20:56

All those condoning Hamas - a rabid bunch of barbaric, medieval, female crushing maniacs...anyone who applauded their actions this weekend....I guess you'd like to live under their rule one day.
Hamas don't give a damn about their own people. A huge part of problem of the conditions the Palestinians in Gaza are living in is because Hamas spends all the money given to them on building war tunnels and amassing weaponry. It suits them to keep their people downtrodden - helps to fan the hatred they have instilled in them from birth.

Hamas does nothing - there is peace.
Israel does nothing - they are obliterated.

Part of the reason this terrorist act was planned is because Israel and Saudi Arabia were heading towards some form of peace along with other parts of the Middle East. Hamas and Iran needed to derail this. They do not want peace. Never have.
You cannot reason with those who will accept nothing less than obliteration of a people.

Israel does not threaten to kill the Palestinian children in Israeli custody.

No, I’m sure they’re treated with the utmost care and consideration…

Just to be clear, there are no ‘goodies’ and ‘baddies’ in this hideous, intractable conflict. Not even Israel which, God knows, was born out of the most horrific war crimes the world has ever witnessed, deserves a free pass.

Unpopular opinion but I think beheading infants takes the cake in these two scenarios.

TheHateIsNotGood · 10/10/2023 21:00

When your back is against the wall, you live in a Ghetto and no one appears to care wwyd? I'm not sure what lengths I would go to, but then I've never had it as bad as the Palestinians in Gaza do - even before the latest Hamas actions.

I've been taught that War is not the answer by all the surviving combatants that have fought in wars that I've known, unusually my family mourns no deaths on Memorial Day as they have all lived to tell the tale.

But, wwid? if I was Palestinian and really, really sick of being treated like a lesser being - I'm really not sure.

Mrburnshound · 10/10/2023 21:02

@Sallysallyu you're a racist and I've reported your comment. @mnhq

Back to the topic - Hamas don't want peace, they have no logical end game. They are causing untold suffering for everyone and derail any chance of the two communities working together. They grabbed power, suspended elections and use fear (of them, fear of Israel) to control people.

I haven't seen cheering round my bit of London but it makes me angry this has been happening in the UK, racist idiots there too! And again fanning the flames, the cheering idiots in the UK have no interest in peace either

bombastix · 10/10/2023 21:05

I might just understand some benighted man in Gaza cheering Hamas.

I do not understand it in London, where it is simply hatred of Jews. What is this performance except hatred? I don't want to have people like this in the UK. This is religious hatred at home.

Kitanai · 10/10/2023 21:05

@TheHateIsNotGood You must be fucking joking.

No. There is nothing you could ever do or say to me that would make me cheer a girl being brutally gang raped, murdered then paraded like a fucking trophy hunt kill to the barbaric masses.

There is nothing you could do that would make me rip a baby from its screaming mother, throw it on the ground and then decapitate it with a blunt spade.

Nothing you could do would let me watch on as a pregnant woman was bent over screaming, and her baby ripped out and sawn to pieces in front of her.

These are rabid fucking dogs that need putting down. Because they won’t stop.

PeachesoutinGeorgia · 10/10/2023 21:08

The whole thing is just so upsetting on a level I dont think I’ve ever felt before as a mother.

Also do mumsnet know that they’re running support Israel adds on their site? Has anyone else got these? They’re very explicit. I guess it’s triggered by the keywords so not sure if they’d have control over that.

To think Hamas have given Israel the excuse they were looking for?
