A new thread! This is for anyone who is trying to conceive their first child - anyone welcome!

The current stats list is shown below, UCL means usual cycle length, and CD is cycle day.

In theory the person who starts the thread gets a BFP before the end, but I'll just be happy to get AF turn up again!

Morning all, so pleased to see that we have another BFP! Congratulations applecharlotte.

DH and I had a minor falling out last night. He suggested that if he did push to go to Afghanistan at the end of his current job (in December) he'd be able to save a big wad of money in the 6 months he'd be gone (perhaps as much as 15k with his saved wages & deployment/danger money). However this would mean putting off moving house and, more importantly, TTC until next June at the earliest. I was not a happy bunny! I don't think for a moment that he is trying to get out of TTC, he is thinking about what we could do with the extra money.
I really don't think I could cope with being pregnant if he were not here, plus he would miss all the scans and everything. Besides, if we were to stick to our original plan and start TTC from September, there is a good chance that he could miss the birth itself if I fell pregnant straight away!

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, and DH has told me it's just another option to consider, but it has reminded me how reliant we are on the MOD for our plans to work out. DH is talking about leaving the military in the future, but he can't leave for another 6 years without his pension taking a massive hit.

Right, thinking positive thoughts and heading off to finish painting! Thanks for listening to the ramble, and apologies for being all "me me me".

Hermya321 · 31/05/2010 10:41

Congratulations Applecharlotte!!! grads thread is over here if you wanna join us!!

Felicity My 20 week scan is a week on Tuesday, I can't believe how fast the past few months have gone. It feels like only yesterday I was looking at a pregnancy test going 'no waaaayyyy'. But there you go. We're going to find out what we're having as well, mainly to see if all the boys vibes I've been having are right. Oh and also to bond with the LO as well.

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 12:37

Aww applecharlotte I have to say I am glad we haven't spoken to you much - purely because that is fantastic news. And we will all catch up in the grads thread!

cavemum That's difficult, wish i had some advice for you. Whatever happens though I'm sure you'll be alright.

hermya Good to hear from you, glad things are going well! You must pop in and tell us the result of the scan!!

haloflo I'll be waiting till I'm about 2 weeks late, I'm expecting AF too much to bother with a test. Getting all the usual AF symptoms. And in all honesty, right now I'm so wrapped up in wedding planning I'm actually not that keen on a BFP.

MrsWajs · 31/05/2010 14:17

Congratulations to chalky and aplecharlotte - fantastic news for you both!!

Well I did a test yesterday morning and got BFN Bit gutted but like I know everyone else will say I'm not giving up til AF arrives! Speaking of which - I haven't had even the smallest twinge and she should be here tomorrow so keeping fingers crossed tightly til then.

Developments on the tooth front are not good either, face has swollen up like a balloon today and I look like desperate dan Got dentist in about half an hour but my mum has already informed me it's most likely an abcess (sp) am freaking out cus I don't know what they will do?? I can't see anything at all inside my mouth except swelling? I'm also worried they might want to put me on strong antibiotics and I don't want to take them until I know I'm def not pg but then again I also don't want my jaw to cave in and end up with septicaemia!?

Ok be back to update you later

papertiger · 31/05/2010 18:17

Hello,

I feel very silly now after my posts yesterday evening because..... BFP this morning! Definitely no mistaking. Really surprised and can't really believe it, will definitely be hanging round here a bit longer rather than grads thread though as very early days and anything could happen. DH's sister has had 3 miscarriages and has 2 DSs, his mum had one so trying not to get too excited though its very hard. Thanks very much to all and especially haloflo for your kind wishes. I think I am proof indeed that the OPKs with the 2 lines are not very easy to use, and also that implantation bleed/discharge can last up to a week! I have no clue when I ovulated so can't really give any useful tips except we did SWI every other day throughout pretty much.

Congratulations also to applecharlotte. May must be a very lucky month, hope we have many more BFPs to come for this thread.

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 18:19

Woohoo!! Congrats papertiger!

haloflo · 31/05/2010 18:42

YES! I knew it - and thats why I waited to do the list. 3 BFP's added in one list - amazing times! It will be brillant to all graduate together. Next time I get a BFP I'm not going alone alright?

papertiger Don't feel silly - its terrifying to POAS! Am so pleased for you - you sounded so down yesterday. Think positive - there is no reason for anything to go wrong (although I know its hard) and stick with us for as long as you want. I wish you all the best.

kaloki 2 week after AF is due sounds like a plan - thats how long I intend to wait. Maybe the month you want it least will come through for you? Life tends to work like that. I hope the search for a new dress pattern goes well.

cavemum That sounds like a really awkward situation to be in. Whenever he is posted to Afganistan he will miss out on so much. I hope you come to a solution that is best for both of you.

mrswajs So sorry about the BFN and the tooth troubles. I hope they could do something for you which would be safe if you are pg. As you already said its not over til AF arrives and even if this isn't your month i'm betting next month will be (holiday + CBFM = pg)

soaralba You are on the list. What made your DH/DP change his mind? I just kind of made the decision to go ahead with mine. (we both wanted to TTC but I needed to give him a nudge.) As the cycles roll by though he is getting keener and keener.

CaveMum · 31/05/2010 19:50

papertiger congratulations! Wow May has been a very lucky month on this thread, and how lucky you all are to have fellow frolickers to compare notes with along the way.

haloflo and kaloki thanks for the kind words. DH and I had a bit more of a chat today and I can see where he is coming from, but it is very hard not to stamp my feet like a spoilt 6year old and shout "But I want a baby NOW!"
He also said that we don't have to change our plans at all and that he'd rather miss out on some of a pregnancy than end up getting sent away when a baby is only a few months old and missing some of the developmental stages. I can see that, and it is a fair point.

Whatever happens, DH will either be sent away late 2010 / early 2011 or mid 2012 and we don't get a choice when it happens!

It is difficult, I want to move house and have a baby next year and now it is looking like it could all be up in the air!

Fingers crossed I'm just over-reacting!

Hermya321 · 31/05/2010 20:13

Wow Papertiger congratulations!!!! Thats FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTT TTTTTTIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC news!!!! Absolutely fabulous, stupendous, fabbity fab fab fantastic brilliant great great news!!!

Heres the grads thread, if you wanna pop over. I've stuck the kettle on and got the biscuits ready

I knew lurking was a good idea!!

Ariesgirl · 31/05/2010 20:22

Well I feel that you ought to be congratulating me also. Who suggested Paper pees on a stick?? I'll tell you - ME, ME ME!!!!

Congratulations - really pleased for you .

Hopefully I'll be over to join you soon. Hopefully I dunno, maybe I'm not cut out for this TTC lark.

HOWEVER! This is about our luck ladies this month. Here's to a smooth and uneventful 9 months.

Hermya321 · 31/05/2010 20:42

Aries Congratulations on your symptom spotting skills and persuasive ability. We could use people like you in the (looks round and whispers) super secret stuff department. It's so secret that no one knows where it is, even the people who work there. In fact we don't even know what we do either but sssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

In all seriousness I hope that TTC isn't taking it out of you too much and I hope that you get your BFP soon. We've got a packet of biscuits saved with your name on them.

mumnerves · 31/05/2010 20:46

Wow!!! This has certainly been an good bank holiday weekend!

CONGRATULATIONS! Chalky applecharlotte and papertiger oh and also Bellaby I don't think I've been on here since

Ariesgirl big hugs, your time will come, and I'm keeping my fingers for you crossed it will be soon!

haloflo so sweet of you to ask, yes my 10 week scan went well and we've been telling everyone. Getting some of my energy levels back now but still feeling sick and throwing up every other day which I really hope goes soon!

Good luck anyone else testing this week!

Ariesgirl · 31/05/2010 20:55

Hermya, I'm mystified...secret stuff department?

Hermya321 · 31/05/2010 21:22

Yeah Aries secret stuff department, we work on......secret stuff. In fact it's so secret you don't even know you're doing it. You may or may not get a phonecall. But ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

SaorAlba · 31/05/2010 21:47

halo Thought I'd go over the plan with DP again cause I was itching to get started and thought he'd rein me in a bit, so said "right, to be clear we use condoms this month so I know my cycle length. this means when we go to France on holiday with my parents I'll be able to eat pate and camembert and there won't be a problem". His response was "I'm not using condoms this month just so you can eat cheese in France".

He's convinced we won't get pg first month anyway and as he's just been diagnosed with varicoceles I figure we should get started ASAP. varicoceles can reduce male fertility according to google.

cavemum It really can feel sometimes like ttcing is never going to happen. We all need to Remember that there's never going to be a perfect time.

Congratulations paper hopefully we'll all see you over on the grads thread eventually!

Congrats applecharlotte and paper!!! Lets hope that June brings as much luck as May did starting with our frolickers who are due to test in a few days time...

Well done aries on your symptom spotting, you do deserve to join hermyas secret society

Glad you're doing well mumnerves! So pleased that all went well with the scan. The time is just flying at the minute!

cave, I sympathise so much with your dh's work situation, I think I've told you before that one of my best friend's dh is in the army and she is forever waiting to find out dates. She said that the army are notoriously bad for leaving things until the last minute and changing plans so she finds it incredibly frustrating to plan anything because she never knows what is going on in advance She too is caught in the pension trap as she really wants her dh to leave the army but he wants to stick it out for his pension. I think you should just go for it and see what happens- it will all sort out in the end because it will have to. That is my motto when I worry about having a baby away from home, money etc and it helps me relax! like saoralba says, there is never a right time to have a baby and we just have to make the best of whatever situation we are in or we would wait forever to have our babies.

How did you get on at the dentist mrsw? Hope you are in a bit less pain now- sorry about the BFN.

flo- I will try my best to come with you next month if you don't get a BFP this month (of course I hope you do!) I will also be waiting as long as possible to test when the time comes- I can't handle the disappointment!

saoralba- I laughed at your dh's point! Glad he is so keen I'm sure if you are pregnant in France you won't mind missing out on the pate!

Have a nice day everyone- hope the back to work blues don't get any of you!

Oh and aly!!! Thanks SOOOOO much for all of your advice and tips. It all sounds fantastic! I will definitely be in touch if I have any more questions and meeting for lunch sounds great- a frolickers meet up! I will let you know the exact dates when we will be there soon. we are flying into and out of LA but hiring a car and doing lots of driving. We're going to go to San Francisco, Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas etc so am not sure yet which dates of our trip we will be spending in LA Very exciting! Thanks again! xx

Temp today 36.29(!!!) and can feel AF making her way.
Gutted.
On to cycle 10

chalky3 · 01/06/2010 10:58

Thankyou everyone! Had to wait til after 10 on Sunday to tell DH as I had been at work. He was really grumpy when I got back (hungover I think!) and wouldn't stop moaning. Had to wait for him to shut up to tell him, but it made his day! He was so pleased with himself too, He'd started to think there was something wrong with him after 10 months!

Congratulations Papertiger!!! When I read your post I thought 'that's just what happened to me'! I didn't want to get your hopes up though as it's so awful when u get a BFN. So glad u didn't!

Good luck to everyone coming up to testing time, there's lots of babydust (or is it volcanic ash?!) in the air!

kkas · 01/06/2010 12:21

hey! back from long weekend in devon for a weekend and don't have the time to catch up with all that's happened over the past few days. but big congrats to apple chalky and papertiger!!! so happy for you

wedding was hard with lots of little kids and even a newborn there. lots of questions about when are we going to have kids too... also pretty sure we got timing wrong last week and completely missed ov. so roll on cycle 11.... (at least it's a prime number!)

kkas · 01/06/2010 12:22

oops - second weekend is meant to be wedding - really should proofread....

womanlytales · 01/06/2010 12:37

Hi everyone,
Hope everybody has had a wonderful bank holiday - my mil is visiting so am on an extended bank holiday
Caught up with all the threads and what fantastic news.... Hearty congrats to our 3 bfps - - woo hooooo

felicity - hello
mrswajs - terribly sorry for the bfn and temp dips. Wish you a speedy recovery [for the tooth].
chalky congrats - thank you for coming back to share the good news - gives us all hope
apple great news - congrats to you
haloflo love the stalker alert - ha ha, stalk some more
cavemum sounds like you and DH have fair bit of talking to do. I would go with what instinctively feels right -- that often works for me because the problem with choice and logic is that after awhile our minds will have come up with all the needed logic to support one choice or the other.
papertiger congrats - am so happy for you. Was not sure how to respond to your earlier post and then saw this and thought - FANTASTIC God bless.
hermya it's great that you're lurking

On my end we're in the SWIrathon and DH is down with the flu. So, this might not be our month. Over the weekend also learnt of a friend's mc - terribly sad at 8wks one day after the mid-wife appt. Her dh called to tell me - feel really bad and down for her. Not sure what to say or do. Feel utterly useless...

Wish for us all strength, hope and lots of baby dust.

Thank you everyone for all your sweet messages!

haloflo Thanks for your message too, I am trying to be optimistic but I read your posts on the grads thread so I know I'm not out of the woods yet by any means. Really sorry to hear what happened. Hope you have better news soon.

aries Yes well done you were right! When I posted I really didn't think I would get a BFP and just did it to rule it out. I'd even told DH that essentially I'd got AF but was lighter than normal so he was obviously very surprised!

chalky- really interesting to hear you had the same experience, hope others will find it helpful to symptom spot.

Although by my calculations I must be about 5 weeks, in some ways I wish I didn't know yet as its very worrying and not being able to say anything to anyone is hard. Work is always a bit doom and gloom as a colleague has recently resigned and due to cuts may not get replaced, so I know me getting pregnant will put extra stress on my colleagues but what can I do?

Hoping June will be just as successful for all. x
