A new thread! This is for anyone who is trying to conceive their first child - anyone welcome!

The current stats list is shown below, UCL means usual cycle length, and CD is cycle day.

In theory the person who starts the thread gets a BFP before the end, but I'll just be happy to get AF turn up again!

CD120! How depressing is that?! I did get a BFN on Wednesday, by the way. I dreamed that AF came as well (can't remember what night it was). It felt so real, the only way I knew it was a dream was that I didn't have pants on in bed when I woke up. I wish it would come back

My pretend mental deadline was to get a BFP by the time my friend's baby was born. Baby is due in three weeks and no sign of AF never mind BFP. I know it was only an arbitrary line in the sand, but still.

Still, I've got DH back again so at least there is the possibility of SWI once more. Whether I'm broken inside or not, it ain't happening without SWI!

Sorry for being so self-indulgent! Fingers crossed for everyone, whatever stage you're in

cherrycobbler · 30/05/2010 10:23

morning all! oh evilg, those dreams are awful aren't they - I seem to be going through a bit of a phase hyper real dreaming that am pg/ dad is well etc. What have docs said about the super long cycle? Just wait it out? And yay for returning DH, its all about the SWI!!

Very quiet on here - hope that means you are all having fab bank hols despite the rain! I got a bit upset yesterday by relative telling me I had to get on with having a baby so my dad can see g/child before he goes, not got much time left, why were DH and I waiting, suggested we were being selfish etc - AND CARRIED ON EVEN AFTER I SAID WE WERE TTC. On what planet is that acceptable behaviour?? I was very polite to her but then came home and sobbed to DH as was so and all at the same time. But feeling much happier today - DH is making me unhealthy but delicious breakfast as I type - and have a day of various family things planned.

Over and out from me -

haloflo · 30/05/2010 10:44

cherry I'm really sorry to hear that your dad isn't well (apologies if you've mentioned that before). To imply you are selfish is awful and wrong. I'm not surprised it upset you. I'm glad you are feeling better this morning and hope that today takes your mind off things. Fingers crossed this is your cycle. I'm rooting for you.

evil we all set ourselves mental deadlines. I would tell you not to do it but that would be hypocritical. Try not not to beat yourself up about it though. I'm glad your DH is back. I hope you have a better day today.

mrswajs I'm really sorry to hear that your temp dipped yesterday. Was it by much? I hope it was just a flucuation because I was hoping like you that this was your month. Remember if its not though the CBFM & a summer holiday will definatly increase your chances next month. Did you enjoy your hen night? How you feeling today?

I hope everyone else is enjoying their bank holidays.

Hello ladies, long time no speak! I'm sorry I've been away so long but you might remember that DH and I decided to take a break from TTC a couple of months ago because it was putting such a strain on us. I decided to stay away from Mumsnet as being on here all the time wouldn't really be properly stepping back from the rollercoaster of it all! I hope you've all been well and congrats to all those who have had BFPs in the past few weeks!

Anyway I'm here to tell you that I got a BFP this morning!!! So excited but can't tell DH yet as he is away.

Bit of a surprise because we really were relaxing on the whole TTC thing even though we weren't exactly taking any preventative action

I guess my best tip for success is to try not to think about it all too much, not easy I know!

Ariesgirl · 30/05/2010 11:13

Oh my God!!!! So many congratulations! You must be delighted.

So should I stay well clear of MN and stop trying ?

Muser · 30/05/2010 11:26

Congratulations chalky, lovely news.

I think OV time is approaching, getting little signs. Which means I am spending about 90% of the time worrying that something will go wrong again. Ah optimism.

Ariesgirl · 30/05/2010 11:28

Hello Muse. Wotchoo doing 'ere?

Muser · 30/05/2010 11:56

Just hanging around hoping for some first timers luck Aries. How's you?

felicityFlick · 30/05/2010 12:03

Hi Everyone,

Happy bank holiday to you all! Hope the weather is better where you are than it is here- it is so rainy that I can?t go out and do my food shopping. Am waiting for a break in the big down pour to leg it to the shops and back. One of my good friends is getting married today back in the UK and I?m so sad that I?m not there

Have not posted in so long so am going to do my best to catch up now!

Great news chalky!!!! So pleased for you Bet you can?t wait for your dh to get home now so you can tell him!

Welcome back kurly!! Glad to hear that af has made some sort of appearance now- what a relief that must be!I think thats the best idea about waiting until you have a bit more of an idea about your cycle before you start with Fertility Friend (which by the way, you will love!) You must be starting look forward to the holidays now-I know I am!

cherry- that? s so insensitive poor you. Some people just don?t get it do they? I can?t believe that she carried on even after you said that you were ttc. Sorry to hear that your Dad is unwell too. Hope you?re having a nice family day today and that the sun has come out. I?m rooting for you too Hope the work eases up a bit this week and after all it will only be a four day week for you so hopefully thats a bit more bearable!

Hope your hangover eases soon flo! What were you up to last night? I am a rubbish drinker these days and it?s so unpredicatble. Sometimes, I can drink lots and be fine and some times it just takes a couple and I feel rough the next day! Glad to hear that your dh came home early that SWI has commenced! By the way, I have invested in some preseed [hmmm] i?ll let you know how I get on with it when I get round to using it! Af arrived on Saturday so I am into my last cycle of NOT ttc and am very excited! I have worked out that I should be ovulating when dh and I are on holiday so hopefully we can get lots of swi in.

When is your next appointment at the docs evil? Hang in there, use bellaby as your inspiration! You never know when you might be ovulating so keep on with the SWI now your dh is back. I know what you mean about the mental deadlines- I think we are the worst for putting pressure on ourselves, setting ourselves targets and then beating ourselves up when we don?t meet them. I know that I do it all the time. I really hope that your af turns up soon- for what it?s worth, I think you have handled this so well.

MrsW sorry to hear about your temp dipping- You never know though... it?s not over until af arrives so keep your hopes high and enjoy your night! I?ll have my fingers crossed for you from here- here they are ?X?! I loved your diagram the other day How?s the tooth doing? You must be on holiday countdown now! It will be so lovely!

zippys so exciting any day now could be the big proposal! So exciting! Good news on getting a date for the fertility clinic. Hopefully you won?t need it- I always here of people just about to go for their appointment and then they get their BFP. It?s happened on here a few times too hasn?t it? worrisome and yorkshire I think? When do you get the results of the horrid tests you had before? Sorry if you have said further up the thread and I?ve missed it

bella Still so excited for you!!!!! Glad that your dh is looking after you- bless him! Was your doctor able to give you anymore detail on how far along you are? Glad you are staying with us for the time being Hope you have a lovely time away with your mum, where are you off to? Are you going to tell her?! My holidays start on the 23rd June so I am almost on the three week count down! SO EXCITED!
Hi cave- Have you spotted that temp rise yet? It?s exciting when your body behaves isn?t it? Hope you got your work done on Friday in time for the lovely long weekend- am v. jealous! Don?t worry about having a short luteal phase, I am sure that your body is still just sorting itself out and that your luteal phase will be longer next time, and even if it?s not.... just look at aly

Great news aly about your tests! Twins would be awesome! Keep, keeping us posted. We all have everything crossed for you! What are your must see sights in LA and what area do you think would be good to stay in to do the main touristy things?

No, aries- you?re not going anywhere young lady! (yes, you ARE young!)

Ditto about turning down the holiday florin- I agree with sensible mrswajs Book and worry about the consequences later on. I have a wedding in New Zealand in Feb and I am a bridesmaid so I could potentially be heavily pregnant but I just thought ?oh well? I?d kick myself if I wasn?t pregnant and hadn?t gone to the wedding. Everything always works it?s self out I think anyway.

How you doing on your shag-a-thon takethatlady?!

Welcome back muser I was here last time round. Hopefully your stay here will be very short

Hi to lankylegs, kkas and womanly and welcome strethamranger

Come back soon claire we?re missing you

Right, off to cobble something together for dinner from my bare cupboards- just call me Mother Hubbard!

Kaloki · 30/05/2010 12:08

Congrats Chalky!

Hope everyone else is doing ok

maamalady · 30/05/2010 12:31

Thanks guys Last time I saw the doctor all the tests were normal so the only thing to do is to wait until I get to CD-six-months and then they will start to try to do something about it. Apparently it is fairly common to take up to six months for AF to return after stopping the pill, and given that I'm not an "older" TTCer there's plenty of time to wait it out.

Congratulations Chalky - fantastic news!

And lots of good wishes to everyone, hope you all have lovely bank holidays

OP posts:
felicityFlick · 30/05/2010 12:34

kaloki!!! Great to see you- where have you been hiding?! Not long until your back appointment now is it? Did you decide on a wedding dress design? Hope all the plans are going well xx

CaveMum · 30/05/2010 12:48

Afternoon all, just popping by while DH and I stop for lunch. We're doing some more work around the house -sanding down the window sills and outside wooden doors ready for painting.

I see we have another BFP - congrats chalky! May has been a very lucky month!

DH and I went to look at some houses that have been built by the same company that are building in our town. We've discovered that the house we were interested in is WAY over our budget so we now have to decide if we walk away or go for a smaller house that we don't like as much!

I've had my temp rise which indicates I ovulated yesterday on Day 9 - temp yesterday morning 97.1 & this morning 97.7! Just have to see if the temp stays up.

Hope everyone is well, I'll have a proper read and catch up later on.

SaorAlba · 30/05/2010 13:01

Hi all.

There's been lots of updates while I've been lurking. congrats Chalk on your bfp.

DP has just announced that he doesn't want to use condoms this month, so if the next person doing the stats could move me from waiting on to the list that would be lovely.

TTC #1, cycle 1, UCL?, cd3

A month sooner than I expected will,be joining the March bus I think.

Kaloki · 30/05/2010 13:14

Hi felicity, been having a bit of a nightmare here, so been to busy to post (let alone SWI) My back appointment is Tuesday, so fingers crossed they'll have some idea.

Turns out the wedding dress pattern I decided on I can't get anyway, which is typical, so looking for new ideas again now.

In theory AF was due 2 days ago, but we shall see, been cramping as usual so not holding out any hope at all.

zippys · 30/05/2010 19:59

Happy bank holiday to you all too!

Chalky CONGRATULATIONS -I am so so pleased for you. Obviously we all need to stop trying to get out BFP's! Let us know how you tell DH.

Kurly Glad to hear that af has made an appearance now.

cherry- that has just made me angry that some people can be that insensitive. I know it is not in your league at all but I had someone as work say to me that I obviously am not interested in having children as I have a 'high powered' job I just wanted to cry. I am also sorry to hear about your Dad and sorry if I missed you mention it before.

Halo how is the hangover going? I have now stopped drinking for diet and TTC purposes, but tomorrow will be a massive test as have a BBQ with all the family round.

Flick I think I am going to try preseed next cycle or the stuff in boots anyway. How exciting about been in your last cycle of not TTC, ooh you can obsess with the rest of us soon and a holiday in OV sounds like really good. re the test I know they were all clear but waiting till August to go back to see what the next stage with be!! But on a positive note I dont feel quite as sick at the moment . I do hope you are right re the BFP and testing, I am due AF just before appoinmtment so you never know

Evil I really feel for you at the moment it must be so hard. I just wish AF would arrive for you, but like others have said you never know when you may ovulate. I had a deadline in my head of being able to tell my family at the cousins wedding but as I would only be 8 weeks by the wedding IF i got BFP this month then I wont be able to

MrsW I cant give much guidance on temps I am afraid, I tried this month but I wake up so much in the night that temps were all over the place and stressing me out so I stopped. The thought of you with Dsd made me smile. I hope you are enjoying your time with her.

bella Glad that your dh is looking after you- I have a feeling my DP will be very similar!

womanly thanks for the info re 21 day test I will try to spot OV and go from there.

Florin I would be tempted to book holiday - I hope you do get BFP nice and quickly but look at me, I could have missed loads if I had put my plans on hold for so long.

Kaloki sorry to hear about the pattern and that things are not going well. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that AF is not on its way but a BFP instead.

Sorry for anyone I missed. Hope the weather is better tomorrow for everyone.

Hermya321 · 30/05/2010 20:01

Oh my gosh, congratulations Chalky!!! You must be super excited!!!

If you feel like you want to join us, the grads thread is here.

I hope everyone else is well!!!

I'm good, I'm getting proper kicks now and lots of heartburn, which is also fun.

Hermya321 · 30/05/2010 20:06

Felicity Are you still on the pill? Or are you trying to regulate your cycles now? I'm a bit behind with the news on this thread I'm afraid.

papertiger · 30/05/2010 21:31

Hello all,

Sorry have been missing for quite a while.
I was trying chalky's tactic of trying to forget about things and not come on Mumsnets too much as I find its easier to get on with life in general and not get too obsessed if I don't check on here too much! However as others have also said recently (think it was lankylegs?, its difficult when I only got married last year and people keep asking me when I'm going to have a baby . I just hope they don't all start comparing notes because I keep giving different (vague and non-commital mostly)responses to people!
Its also hard as part of my job involves sometimes having to deal with pregnant people, this month a lady who came off the pill in march, is 43, and now is 8 weeks pregnant with her 3rd! It just really frustrates me how it seems to be so easy for some people.

Congrats to all the recent BFPs, great news!

Well I finally decided to come back on here to update my stats but no idea what to update them too....! TMI alert, Last sunday (day 29 I think) started with small amounts of brown discharge, this lasted for a week, on the Tues only I had the tiniest bit of blood, maybe like a drop. I have assumed this was my AF but it was the most pathetic ever, never even had to use any sanitary products at all (sorry TMI!). This is all making me think I am not ovulating at all as also I have on a couple of previous months used those OPKs with the 2 lines but have never ever had a positive test despite testing all month.

So I think I should now be on cycle 7 day 8 and may get some different OPKs to try, but I am thinking I will POAS tomorrow just in case although feel that I know what the answer will be which will just then depress me, so any advice appreciated.

Sorry for long self obsessed post! Really I should post more often in smaller chunks. x x

Ariesgirl · 30/05/2010 22:06

Um, Paper...I hesitate to ask but have you POAS?

papertiger · 30/05/2010 22:17

No I will do in the morning, been trawling the net for details on implantation bleeding and everything I've seen looks like it would only last 2-3 days max not a week, which is why I think it was my period, just that they are rubbish, they are always really light, although not normally this light.

felicityFlick · 31/05/2010 01:58

Hi hermya! I have been off my pill since November and have been temping and keeping track of my cycle since Feb so I have a pretty good understanding of what's what now and all seems pretty regular (touch wood!). I can't wait to get going now, although I think making the decision to delay ttc back in Feb was a blessing in disguise as I would not have had a clue what my body was doing and I know I would have stressed out! I also would not have gone for the promotion I recently got had I already been pregnant so that would have meant no pay rise and the extra money will be so useful when I do get pregnant

I always check up on you all on the grads thread but don't want to write too much as I feel a bit superstitious- silly, I know! When is your 20 week scan?

Fingers crossed for you paper

Happy bank holiday Monday to you all

aly323 · 31/05/2010 03:58

Huge congratulations and wishes of smooth sailing to Chalky!!!

Sorry to bore everyone with an LA post, but I couldn't figure out how to send this privately...
Felicity, LA has something for everyone! The problem is that much of it is hard to find on your own. There are several "touristy" things that I think everyone has to do- Hollywood, Venice Beach (it's a bunch of crazies!), the Griffith Observatory, Beverly Hills/ Rodeo. If you want to experience a little bit of Mexico, you can check out Olvera street downtown. I like the LaBrea tar pits, but I'm a dork. If you enjoy art and beautiful places, the Getty or the Getty Villa are wonderful. When I have visitors in town, I'll often take them on one of the bus tours many of them have coupons and they can be kind of cheesy, but can be a fun way to fit a lot in without driving. Also, you can do studio tours and often catch free tapings of sitcoms. I've had friends even visit game shows while here. These are only a few suggestions.

Now, outside of that stuff... LA has some of the most beautiful beaches and mountains around. If you can find time, there are amazing drives and hikes throughout the Santa Monica Mountains. You should absolutely try to have a drive up Pacific Coast Highway (and eat at Neptune's Net if you can). There are tide pools and lagoons hidden along the way. If you can't find the time for that, try to spend some time hiking in Griffith Park after you see the observatory. There are also bike paths along many of the beaches and bikes for rent at decent prices.

If you like desert, just drive north on the 5 to the 14. About 30-40 minutes out of town, you can go to Vasquez rocks. It's not for everyone, but I love the severe beauty of the rocks and the stark contrast to other parts of LA.

As to where to stay, I would probably find something around Sunset or maybe even in Santa Monica if I didn't really know the city. The hard part is that LA changes from block to block. Are you planning to drive while here? If you like, you can always send me a message with questions as well. Maybe we could even meet for lunch while you're here.

Anyone else planning a trip to LA?

applecharlotte · 31/05/2010 08:34

Hi all,

Hope you all have a lovely bank holiday planned.

Well I feel a bit bad that i've not contributed very much to this thread since joining a month or so ago. And now i need taking off the ttc list as i had two BFP on saturday, 3 days before AF is due. I really hope it sticks though am v scared about having a CP.

The only thing i did differently the night we conceived was putting a pillow under my bum, oh and i gave up smoking 2 weeks before! Don't know if either helped though. Its a bloomin mystery this ttc lark.

Anyway, although i've not been vocal, i'd just like to say reading this thread has helped me so thank you and good luck

haloflo · 31/05/2010 09:31

Congratulations chalky! Let know how you tell your DH. I hope he's back soon for you.

Congratulations to you too applecharlotte Well done for quitting smoking too!

felicity Welcome back! My sister was back from university for the weekend so we went out for a pub dinner & drinks with some joint friends. We were out at 6 and I came home at 2! Was brilliant fun though and my hangover eased after some paracetamol, lunch and fresh air. It only takes 2 or 3 drinks for me to get a hangover so I try not to drink too much these days but it was worth it this time. That's great that it's your last cycle before TTC - that has come round really quick. It's good that you can look back now and know it was the right decision to delay.

SoarAlba That's brilliant news about throwing out the condoms a month early. I hope you get lucky first time round.

cavemum Fingers crossed that was ovulation and your luteal phase is longer this time. I don't know if you are worried about short cycles in general but I remember that lucky ov'ed on CD9 and that was the month she got her BFP. stalker alert

kaloki Sorry to hear you are having a bit of a nightmare. Hopefully things will take a turn for the better soon. I hope that your late AF signals a you know what. Fingers crossed for you. How long you waiting before POAS?

zippys Well done on giving up drinking and going on a diet. I'm sure I've seen a MN group which has the title "Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels." I think I need to write that on my fridge! I'm sure you will do just fine today, enjoy the BBQ and the feeling of being refreshed and not hungover on Tuesday. Glad to hear you are feeling less sick. I hope that is a positive sign.

papertiger Definitely POAS today (even if just to rule it out) Everyone's body is different and many on the grads thread said that they have had brown discharge at some point. I really hope you get your BFP.

If not though don't despair about negative OPK's. Personally I think it's really hard to tell if they are positive - I spent ages on Saturday looking at one at all angles asking DP if he thought the line was darker than the control line. Also everyone's LH surge is different, yours could be short lived meaning you would miss it on an OPK. You still could be releasing an egg.

Have you tried temping? It's not for everyone and it doesn't help with trying to relax and forget about it but it is a definite way of knowing if you ovulated & even trying it for one or two cycles would hopefully reassure you that you that things are working.
