A new thread! This is for anyone who is trying to conceive their first child - anyone welcome!

The current stats list is shown below, UCL means usual cycle length, and CD is cycle day.

In theory the person who starts the thread gets a BFP before the end, but I'll just be happy to get AF turn up again!

bella i'm sure it will be great news, fingers crossed, but really chuffed for you!!

halo yes i think i am going to have start temping. I have registered at FF so just need to do the homework and maybe start next month.

Just been told by my sis that someone coming to her hen night will not be drinking as just discovered she is preggo....actually really happy for her as she is a bit older and wanted baby so badly, but jeez its like everywhere i go.....everyone is getting BFP!!!!!

pipsicles · 25/05/2010 20:08

Hello all,

Sorry I've been awol for the last few weeks - there has been lots going on, both actually and inside my head and I've needed to take a bit of a step back. Things are a bit better, but still not great, but I thought I'd pop my head today - cd50 seems pretty monumental right now! I'm 99.9% sure I'm not pg, but will poas at the weekend if still no show. Don't think I ov'd this month, but gave up temping and swi'ing, so probably not.

Hope you're all well. Congratulations to Bellaby and anyone else (Aly?) I'm really pleased for you all.

I'll be lurking from time to time and will hopefully be back soon!

Pip x

Ariesgirl · 25/05/2010 20:11

Congrats Bellaby - really pleased for you . There have been a few BFPs today.

maamalady · 25/05/2010 20:41

Congratulations, Bellaby! Fantastic news! Congrats to anyone else who has had a BFP lately too - I've not been keeping track of this thread much as I'm feeling like it's all a bit pointless. It is really handy to keep track of what CD I'm on though, even though the stats are rather depressing.

I am contemplating doing another pregnancy test tomorrow just to make sure I'm still a BFN. It has been about twenty days since the doctor's blood test which came back BFN, so it's theoretically possible that I could be pregnant now. I doubt it though! DH has been away for a fortnight as well which doesn't help with the TTC thing - SWI this weekend just gone and now he's off again and won't be back until Friday! He should be staying in the country for a reasonable length of time after that though, and the TTC can get going again.

OP posts:
Florin · 25/05/2010 22:17

Congratulations Bellaby thats fantastic news and thank you for giving everyone with long iregular cycles a bit of hope!
I got cross with dh last night as he wasn't in the mood. Had to grovel and apologise this morning and explain that I know i am being unreasonable but I am just really desperate to get pregnant! Poor thing has a cold too!
Hope everyone had a good day

Fx

MrsWajs · 25/05/2010 22:26

Aww pipsicles sorry to hear things aren't great, hope you're feeling a bit better soon

Hope you have some bellaby luck tomorrow evilgiraffe and if not that AF & SWI get back on track for you soon.

flo tooth is still sore although think have sussed out whats happened. I have a wisdom tooth coming in just now and think it's shifted the tooth in front of it to the side and exposed the filling (or lack of) hence the sesitivity when I'm eating. Phoned dentist today and she offerred me an appt for the 4th June!!!! Told her I would need to be seen sooner than that so got told quite bluntly that I would need to phone first thing in the morning for an emergency appt! I think dental receptionists share the same god complex as doctors receptionists!
Better news tho - temp rose again today to 36.83 still not as high as it was this time last month but glad it's rising now, just hoping it stays up for me.

pinkie was it clearblue OPK's you were using? If so i think you can just buy replacement sticks (says so on the website) but I have never found anywhere that stocks them. But also as halo says you'd be better off using the cheapie ones as the CB ones can be costly (i would know!!)

PinkiePoo · 25/05/2010 22:28

um...can someone give this clearly mentally challanged girl some help.....

PinkiePoo · 25/05/2010 22:31

oh.my.god.....please ignore me.

This little pea brain has registered on the wrong frigging website....

zippys · 26/05/2010 08:10

CONGRATULATIONS BELLA as the others have said try not to worry too much about the alcohol.

Evil sorry you're feeling down at the moment - I am sending loads of positive vibes to you for your test.

Sorry another quickly post from me as so so busy at moment. But thanks for all the lovely comments re my tests, i am trying to stay positive.

by the way has anyone seen Claire I know she was busy but starting to worry. If your lurking - hi and hope you are ok.

CaveMum · 26/05/2010 08:16

Morning lovely ladies, I hope you are all well.

Anyone due to test in the next few days? We seem to be having a lucky spell!

Quick question, and apologies for being thick: if I use an ovulation test is it testing for the ovulation itself or for signs that I have ovulated? Really I want to know if I need to be very specific about when I POAS or if I can just do it a few days after I suspect I have ovulated?
I'm not so bothered about finding out when I'm ovulating at this stage, more that I am ovulating.

The cheapy tests I got with my thermometer are very vague. They pretty much say "wee in a pot; put the stick in; if it goes x colour the answer is yes", but yes to what?!

Muser · 26/05/2010 08:38

Hello everyone. I was in this thread before, but after having a mc and ectopic in quick succession I left as the ectopic meant a 3 month wait to try again.

Those 3 months are up and I'm ready to start again. I thought as I'm full of optimism again I would jump back on. Can I join the list please? Am calling this cycle 1 as it's a brand new start.

Muser TTC#1, Cycle 1, UCL 28, CD4

LankyLegs · 26/05/2010 09:20

Hi everyone. Hope you are all well. Just wanted to say congratulations bella that's bloody brilliant news, especially with your cycles and like a few people of said - gives hope to all. I hope your DH was over the moon last night! Bless. I really wouldn't stress about the drinking either - its the continuos drinking in early pregnancy that they say you should avoid so don't stress too much! Congrats to all the other BFPs as well! Great hearing all this positive news!

Pinkie i just joined fertility friend as well and have started temping. Hope you managed to find it ok - am loving all the geeky graphs, stats and other such crap you can put in to feed your obsession! Although now wondering why my temps go up and down like a yo yo?! Hope you get to grips with it soon!

MrsWajs I had the exact same problem with my wisdom tooth - it absolutely kills and you should get it seen to as it can lead to abscesses etc (that's what happened to me and had to have 2 rounds of antibiotics). Kick that dentist receptionists arse.... why do all medical type receptionists act like they hold the key to god or something?! Its like trying to get an appointment to get into Fort Knox!

Florin hang on in there - I am sure your OH understands really. Men hey!

Evil - sending you lots of luck for your testing hope its good news for you.

Takethatlady am liking your style! (and kkas windows open!) I wish we had a garden (in a flat at the moment and the balcony would not quite do it!) i think its great getting frisky outdoors and keeps it all exciting!

Halo you sound loads cherpier - am pleased you are feeling better and are back in the game! Well done for handling those questions at the wedding.

Hello to everyone else! Welcome muser

Things with me are a bit dull - CD 8 - just waiting for SWI-ing! I did got o the GP on Friday as i have been having strange cramps from ovulation to AF and she has decided to refer me for a scan and also day 21 bloods. DH has also been asked for sperm analysis just to make sure we are all ok. Its only been 8 months since I have been off the pill but she was good about it and said there would be no harm in doing the tests to get a clean (or not) bill of health. So pleased about that as I am not sure I have been ovulating or not - hence starting the temping too.

On another note my sister calls me up last night and tells me she is 7 weeks pregnant with her 3rd! (and this was just at the point I was opening my amazon delivery of Taking Charge of your Fertility!!!!) What?! Her 2nd baby is only just 6 months. They were always planning 3 but not so soon. Obviously i am over the moon for her and love her kids to bits - they are total cuties. But there is a little bit of me that is still green with envy and thinking when me?!

Anyway - I hope everyone has good days. Nearly half way through the week and then a 3 day weekend!!!

Good luck to all those testing!

LankyLegs · 26/05/2010 09:29

Ooh cavemum sorry - I didn't respond to your question and I was meant to in my post. The ovulation sticks only tell you when you have an LH surge - and this happens prior to ovulation - however, the LH surge alone doesn't actually mean that you are ovulating unfortunately - but for a lot of women then do seem to work. You can have a surge and actually not release an egg - in which case you could also have another surge later on in your cycle to try and release the egg again. The sticks themselves wont tell you have ovulated.

The only way of actually knowing is if you temp - as I have just found out - apparently your temperature goes up after you have ovulated which is a more reliable way of determining whether you have ovulated.. Also - you might not ovulate every cycle too - so worth bearing that in mind.

Hope this helps.

kkas · 26/05/2010 09:38

hi muser i remember you! welcome back. yes... i'm still here.... cycle 10 for me. hope you get lucky your first month!

cavemum sorry i haven't used opks so can't help there... i think you are supposed to use it before you ov though. i'm sure someone else will be round soon to clarify!

temp rise yesterday and today so really hoping we got the timing right this month. TWW starts now. i hate waiting.......

Hi all. Have been lurking round this thread for a while but just plucked up the courage to post.

TTC #1 for 7 cycles now, bit of a roller coaster so far (cycles have always been a bit nuts) and AF just arrived again to big disappointment so in need of a little moral support...

Congrats on all recent BFPs - gives me hope!

LankyLegs · 26/05/2010 10:55

Welcome streathamranger am in the same boat - onto cycle no 7 and every time AF arrives its like a smack in the face. Chin up - think you are in the right place! I have only been here a few weeks too.

So are you in Streatham - I used to live there up until recently! Am now around the corner though - although my gym in still in streatham. Got to love good old south london!

CaveMum · 26/05/2010 11:07

LankyLegs thanks for the clarification. I have been temping since I came off the pill last month. I?m on my second ?cycle? and I did have the temp drop on Day 10 (97.2) followed by a temp rise on Day 11 (97.8) of cycle 1, followed by a sustained higher temp of around 97.7 for a week or so, which seemed to indicate ovulation. However the cycle then came to an end on Day 19/20 when a very light AF showed up! It concerns me a little as I read that Luteal phases of under 12 days (which mine was) can indicate a problem.
I know I?m reading too much into just one cycle (that?ll be the control freak kicking in!) and should give my body more of a chance to sort itself out.

Waves to muser and streathamranger

userpin11 · 26/05/2010 11:16

Hi Lankylegs - yep, a Streatham girl - small world! Thanks for the reassurance, nice to find others on the same journey...

Waves to cavemum

Bellaby · 26/05/2010 11:45

Hello All

thank you for your kind messages - am on my iPhone so will write a proper message on Friday.

Doctor called this morning to confirm results of my blood test show I am 1-2 weeks pregnant so looks like it is real after all!

Not sure I will move over to the grads thread quite yet as a bit scared and it's very early days (even doctor said that)!

Have a lovely day

lots of love

Bellaby

womanlytales · 26/05/2010 16:52

I love being part of this group -- always so much to catch up on So here goes..

bellaby congrats once more - we'd love to have you around here for longer and spreading the hope and cheer Also I feel sad when folks who get a bfp - makes sense, they need to talk about being bfp and that's not nearly as possible in a group that's all about ttc...the graduates thread is great though...like a continuation - - so hope you join there soon but also that you pop in from time to time to say hello and let us know how you're doing
pinkie poo - hear you on everybody being bfp -- in my office I am SURROUNDED by wonderfully pregnant women and I find myself looking at them and wishing their condition rubs off on me - lol. Then on our local street - whereever I go it's more pregnant moms and kids...I think this must have been the case earlier too..I just didn't notice it as much..and now that I am noticing them, hope something rubs off on me. Remember going for my D21 blood test and these two twin boys came and sat beside me...was so chuffed..though no bfp yet for me. We'll get there too.
pip hope you feel better and best of luck for this weekend.
florin I tend to get that way too - trying to schedule our 'dates' only to have my gp frown and complain about how I need to work on the relationship and not set up a timetable... it's tough esp when I know I don't ovulate every month...
mrswajs fingers crossed for your temp to stay up
cavemum the ovulation tests detect an lh surge that typically give you a 24 - 48 hour window prior to ovulation actually happening. I don't think these tests confirm ovulation. The most reliable test to confirm that you've ovulated is a progesterone reading done on a blood test typically taken on day 21 for a 28 day cycle. The tricky part there is figuring out when to test... some folks say anything from 5 upwards is a sign of ovulation..though my specialist said it needs to be above 30. Hope that helps?
muser lots of babydust to you.
lankylegs in a conversation I heard myself blurt out that I am only 2 yrs apart from my bro but he's got two kids and I have none...and lo & behold I realized that as much as I love him and his kids -- now anyone who has a kid seems that much more fortunate and blessed than me... i think it's ok to feel green because it will pass. Our turn will come
streatham AF arriving is quite a bummer - hope you feel energized by the recent bfps and best of luck to you.

On my end - CD6 - trying not think about a timetable for swi and just 'going' with the flow....looking forward to the long weekend.
Happy testing to all those who are due to Poas.
Big wave to haloflo

womanlytales · 26/05/2010 16:55

Gosh was typing too fast and missed a whole phrase...terribly sorry...
bellaby congrats once more - we'd love to have you around here for longer and spreading the hope and cheer Also I feel sad when folks who get a bfp leave to join another thread though it makes sense, they need to talk about being bfp and that's not nearly as possible in a group that's all about ttc...the graduates thread is great though...like a continuation - - so hope you join there soon but also that you pop in from time to time to say hello and let us know how you're doing

MrsWajs · 26/05/2010 17:55

You didn't miss anything out womanly you said that first!

But anyway . . . . . aaaaaaagggghhhhhh!

I went to Boots and bought 2 preg tests - why, why, why!!? Obviously haven't used them yet but the temptation will be there now...hmmph!

Temps are naffing me off too, down again today, I'm gonna be really boring and tell you all my post ov temps..

CD15 (OV) 36.27
CD16 36.38
CD17 36.50
CD18 36.30
CD19 36.54
CD20 36.68
CD21 36.49
CD22 36.68
CD23 36.83
CD24 36.63
I know this is total overkill but I just want someone to look at that and say it's totally normal(!?) The only pattern I can see here is that it rises for 2 days then drops then rises again for two days and drops again. Even fertility friend is questioning my temps!! For anyone that temps, do you get a new thermometer or battery every cycle??

Sorry I know that's incredibly boring but I just so had my hopes up for this month and now I feel a bit deflated.

Anyway nuff about me. Lankylegs I want your doctor! How nice does she sound, I never had any hint of blood tests etc when I went to see them due to lack of AF! And that was at about the 8 month stage so you're really lucky to have such an understanding doctor to see! As for the tooth I finaly have an appt for Tuesday, not exactly as quick as I wanted but it would seem even the emergency appointments have to be arranged with military precision!! So will just hang off til then, the pain isn't totally unbearable just more annoying than anything. Leave for holiday 2 weeks today tho so really want to have it all dealt with before then!

Hello to muser and streathamranger you are both very welcome - at the rate the BFP's are coming up at the moment there will soon be no-one left here!!

cavemum was gonna say about the OPK's and temping but think it's already pretty much been covered. I find it better to do a bit of both. Once you've established roughly when you're ovulating you don't need to use the whole pack each month as you only need to do maybe the day or 2 before until you get your LH surge. Although that doesn't really work for someone with really erratic cycles.

Florin & womanly totally know where you're coming from with the 'timing' of SWI etc I've had an argument or 2 with DP when he's been out to the pub and not come home til midnight on a prime SWI day!! And sometimes even though you know the timings right, you just can't be arsed, which then get's you in a tizz cus you know you should even though you don't want to!! I'm just rabbling now haha!

Hi to everyone else, be back later.x

haloflo · 26/05/2010 18:54

Good afternoon all.

evil Sorry to hear you are feeling down. Fingers crossed for when you POAS that you either get a BFP or the expense will encourage AF.

pipsicles Sorry to hear you are feeling down too. I hope you come back soon with good news. Remember we are here whenever you need us.

cavemum The other thing about OPK's in case you weren't aware is that they aren't like pg tests, for them to be positive the second line needs to be as dark or darker than the control line. Check out this website if you haven't already seen it for examples.

streathamranger Hello. Sorry to hear about AF. I'm sure someone will add you to the list tomorrow. What's your usual cycle length?

muser Hello there. Sorry to hear about your losses. Best of luck this cycle.

womanly I am trying to just go with it this month as well but just so it's hard to break the obsessive habit of counting days etc. I am also surrounded by pregnant women at work and people keep joking "ooh who's next, there must be something in the water." Argh shut up and give us a break. If only it was as easy as drinking water.

mrswajs 9dpo and you've bought tests? Tut tut! When are you planning to test? When AF is late? 14 dpo? I'll be here to shout at you if you try too soon! Your temps look fine to me. There is some variation but provided themes a distinct pattern I don't think you need to worry. What's your cover line? I'm sure my post ov temps varied from 36.50 - 36.90 with a cover line of 36.37. Keep your hopes up too- there's no reason to think it won't happen.

Also my thermometer seems fine still - never thought to replace it? Surely they will last a while? I'm glad the tooth is getting looked at on Tuesday. I hope you can still enjoy your weekend.

For those of you who get ov pains - what are they like? Also probably the stupidest question ever asked - where are my ovaries?? In comparison to my belly button I mean. I've been having twinges and twitches for a few days now which I don't remember from earlier cycles . Am CD13 today.
I was supposed to be relaxing and forgetting about timings but once an TTC geek, always a TTC geek.

MrsWajs · 26/05/2010 20:32

Flo Think my coverline on fertility friend is 36.33 so have only had one day below that since ov. I know I'm just freaking out for nothing but I always thought if I was gonna get a bfp then my temps would be through the roof!
Fertility friend suggested temps could be erratic due to thermometer not working properly, but since I've only used it for 1 and a half cycles, I don't think it can be that!
I only had ov pains a few times but it just felt a bit like AF cramps but slightlky higher up and more twingy than achey IYSWIM?

If the little o is your belly button and the / is your you know what, then my guess is your ovaries are the same place as the big O's?? Obviously this isn't to scale

Hope that posts the way it looks in the text box or I'll look like a right muppet!!!
