Here's a question: has anyone given up caffiene? Is it even necessary? I know obviously that loads of coffee is a bad idea but what about tea, which I love? I've got myself down to 2/3 cups a day - is that ok? The Book Facists would have you give up everything that's remotely nice! Apart from shagging...(though from what I read that may become a bit tedious)

kkas · 12/02/2010 17:21

welcome pickle and delirious and aries (don't think I've seen you on here before). let us know your stats and someone will add you to the list!

aries i haven't completely given up caffeine, although i've only ever really had one tea or coffee a day anyway. i also haven't really given up drinking alcohol, although i do watch how much i drink especially in the TWW. i just think it's so stressful TTC that you need life's little pleasures to get you through it. and there are so many people that conceive without trying and completely changing their lifestyle so i'm really not sure how much difference it makes. but that's just my opinion!

claire so nice of you to ask re undies. i actually haven't given them a go yet.... can't remember what got in the way back then. but i think i'll break them out on v-day. btw - loving your romantic novel lifestyle!

hermya test test test!!! we need another Feb BFP, it's almost been two weeks.....

bunny what a great attitude!

whiteroses i agree and have felt the exact same way every time i update the list and see her. so i've changed the stats below. sevans if you're out there, i hope you don't think we're interfering. just trying to be as sensitive as possible. we miss you hun and hope everything is ok!

Ariesgirl · 12/02/2010 17:27

I'm afraid I'm a total dumbass newbie and don't even know what you mean by stats! Those numbers above? What do they mean?

kurlyvoice · 12/02/2010 17:53

Aries, welcome to the Frolicking thread. You need to know cycle that you're on since you started TTC, the usual length of your cycle (that's UCL) and the number of days since your last period started (that's CD).

Welcome also to deliriouscow and picklepants. I'm 26 so not that much older than you, pickle. Hermya I am going to fall off my seat soon...

Seablue, here's hoping that you never have to use the rectal antibiotic because the luck of this thread will get to you first!

Hope that homebound is doing ok and that there's a box of chocolates somewhere for you to enjoy this weekend. And some wine/gin of course!

Whiteroses, you were quite right I think, so thanks to kkas for updating the list.

I have discovered that another member of my department (of which there are only four) is thinking about TTC#2 pretty soon and I'm starting to feel guilty if half of the music department end up being off on maternity leave at the same time... Please reassure me that these things can't be helped!

Kaloki · 12/02/2010 18:30

kurly They really can't!

Hey new people!

Maybe whoever starts the next thread of this should put a quick explanation of the stats up so new people don't get quite so confused And lets face it, we are more likely to get new people than any other thread, I know this was the first thread I joined in.

Hermya321 · 12/02/2010 18:31

Hello there, well......urmmmm....the post arrived...I did a test, one of those cheapy ebay sensitive tests and there was a faint line. I consulted with DH and he said there was a line as well, very faint but it was there.

A line is a line isn't it?????

I'm going to do another test in the morning just to make sure I'm not hallucinating. Although surely DH would not share my hallucination.

Chalky Sorry about AF's arrival!!!

Deliriouscow Welcome on board, I came off the pill earlier this year and this thread has been a fab find. I have to say though that spending four hours on MN is probably quite a productive use of your time, think of all the valuable research you've done. Ooooo I love new people on the thread!!!

Bunny Oooooo I forgot you were in Australia, I tell you what I would love some sunshine after all the snow we've had round these parts. I hope you have some a good relaxing few months.

Ariesgirl You don't have to give up caffine, two to three cups a day is fine. I thought I would have the give up the dreaded drink, but fortunatly it's fine. Also stats wise, TTC#1 means that you're trying to conceive baby no.1. CD means cycle day, this is counted from the first day of your period. So if you started today, that would be Cycle day 1. UCL means usual cycle length, that means on average how long your cycle is. BFP means Big Fat Positive or a positive pregnancy test. Also AF means Aunt Flo otherwise known as the dreaded monthly visitor. BD means baby dancing which is short for sex. Hope this helps and you're not a dumbass, we've all been new at some point. For the first few days i kept the acronyms page open in a separate window until I got savy.

Picklepants Welcome to the thread, to put your mind at ease the first week I came off the pill I was a walking hormone of hormonalness. It's just your body getting itself back together. Don't be surprised if you swing from despair to all out happiness in the space of a couple of minutes. I managed that one quite a few times. Also I'm not learning to drive at the moment, I'm doing a driving skills course which aims to brush up on your already existing skills (and build your confidence which I sorely lack in). I'm learning stuff like how to position for bends, reading the road ahead, LOADS of work on observation and having a driving plan. It's really good as it's helping me build up my confidence in my abilities to actually drive a car. You do a test and get a certificate at the end. But, to put your mind at ease, I passed my test eight months ago on the fifth time and was a nervous wreck the whole way through the entire process. I will never ever say that learning to drive is easy, just take your time about it. If you have a good instructor you will be fine. Do lots of practice and get someone with LOTS of paitence to take you out.

Pidgin Good luck with whatever ambush type plans you have, LOL at briding your DH. Chocolate always seems to work with mine as well.

Claire You were 'ravished' eh??? I wish someone would ravish me. I bet you smiled all the way into town though didn't you!!!

Seablue I still can't get over the rectal antibiotic, I bet it was a man who invented that procedure.

I'm sorry this is a long post, I'm a little shocked and have been staring at the computer screen for the past half an hour trying to make sence of the world. All the while DH has been talking to me about the gas bill. Does he not realise the world may have turned upside down and inside out???

At least he made me a cup of tea.

Kaloki · 12/02/2010 18:34

Yay!! First to post! Congrats Hermya! That's wonderful

Also forgot to say in my last post, deliriouscow I'm 25 and DP is 23, you're not that young

maamalady · 12/02/2010 18:39

I knew it! I saw your name as the last poster, Hermya, and immediately thought "oh, that'll be her telling us about her BFP"! And a line is definitely a line - congrats!

Pidgin · 12/02/2010 18:39

in haste but couldn't leave without saying oh my goodness Hermya! Keep us posted!!

kkas · 12/02/2010 18:58

yay hermya!!!!

Ariesgirl · 12/02/2010 19:17

OK here goes (I think): Um, TTC number 1 (can't find the little sharp sign as am on an Applemac) CD9, UCL 29, Cycle 1(!!!). Is that right?

Congratulations Hermya!

Calyx · 12/02/2010 19:17

Hermya oh wow yayyyyy I knew it Congratulations on your BFP! And I loved your whole lovely post, it made me smile.

Welcome to all the new people! This is the nicest thread on mn and you will love it, I have learned so much and laughed out loud, only difficulty is keeping up as it moves fast

Kaloki brilliant idea about putting the explanations on the top of the next thread!

I'm just on the Internet on the phone so will sign off now no news from me, I was just checking for news from hermya good start to the weekend!

Calyx · 12/02/2010 19:22

PS Aries CD9 today for me too... We can be cycle buddies compare twinges and symptoms! Good luck TTC!

claireinthecommunity · 12/02/2010 19:29

Wow, fantastic news Hermya!!!!

deliriouscow · 12/02/2010 19:40

Thanks for the welcomes everybody.

My DP is 33, so I suppose our average age would be 28.

No stats as yet as still waiting to ttc.

Went to doctor today and his only advice was: take folic acid, stop drinking if you get a BFP and (duh) stop taking the pill.

Thankfully there are lots of useful websites out there, very much including MN, which will provide a lot more advice than my doctor!

fudgecat · 12/02/2010 20:17

congratulations Hermya very very very happy for you, all you need now is some new pasta bowls

warm welcome to all the new folks and im grad you decided to join us ariesgirl

anyhow.. no news from me, i have had no symptoms so far so i dont think this is going to be the month for me

Hermya321 · 12/02/2010 21:53

Thank you everybody!! I think I'm still floating up a river somewhere in Eygpt. My friend came over and was talking about another girl at work who has recently got pregnant and she turned to me and said 'watch out it'll be you next'. I just laughed and diverted her attention onto the latest work scandal. There seems to be a fair few at the moment.

Fudge Tomorrow will be pasta bowl day!! You never know though, you could have a sneak attack pregnancy.

Calyx I feel quite honoured that you came on here especially to see if it there was any news. Thank you!

bunnygirl80 · 12/02/2010 22:26

Congrats Hermya

I wish it was sunny here, but we've had 7 days of rain in the last 10 days, and when it rains here it pours like I've never seen before! And to top it off the 3 suuny days were the 3 days I work

Welcome to the newbies.

Kaloki I love "And lets face it, we are more likely to get new people than any other thread" That's because this is the best thread on MN. Maybe they should award us all a for being such a great thread!

FelicityFlick · 13/02/2010 02:06

Morning all,

Yay Hermya!!!! I am off on holiday today and DH is running around doing last minute packing things and I just had to sneak on here, like Calyx to see if there was any news from you and there is!!!!!! I'm so pleased for you- I knew it was your month with symptoms like that! Big congratulations!

kurly, i'm a teacher too and often have TTC guilt, but like Kaloki says these things really can't be helped by I do understand how you feel cos I'm the same!

Right, thats it from me for a week, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for lots of BFP's while I'm away!!!

Have a great week all and happy SWI to all those in that stage. Oh, and happy valentines day to all of you lovelies!!

xxxxxx

Hermya321 · 13/02/2010 05:08

Morning all! Well I did another two tests in my bleary eyed awakefulness and they both came back positive. One of them was one of those Clearblue magic stupid proof ones that tells you in words the results, and that one said 'Pregnant 1 to 2 weeks'. I keep checking it to make sure I'm not hallucinating (still).

So yeah a BFP for me .

Thank you for all your congratulations.

Felicity Have a great holiday and drink some wine for me please!

Kaloki Not to have thread smugness, but I agree with Bunny we are the best thread on Mumsnet

Hello. As it always seems to be at the moment I am only on my phone. But just had to say huge congratulations to hermya .

And also thanks so much for all your support. I will be back to my normal regular posting soon just need to get through this difficult time.

I may not be posting but I am still checking regularly.

Bellaby · 13/02/2010 11:20

Morning All

Great to catch up on everyone's news -seems that if I don't look here for a couple of days there is loads to read. Luckily my iPhone means I can have a sneaky look when I am at work. It really is addictive. My DH is wondering why I am suddenly spending so much time on our home computer!

HERMYA - many congrats. Fantastic news and very happy for you

PIDGIN - I have put snacks on my shopping list this week to bribe DH (in his case it is Sour sweets).

Welcome to other newbies.

For those more seasoned TTCers I wondered if someone could tell me how long it took after coming off the pill to get back into a normal cycle? I never had a regular cycle before so am not holding my breath but always good to hear how other people found it.

I hope you all have lovely weekends - I'm off to a party tonight so will be a few drinks for me as know that I'll have to think about cutting it down/out when we start to get down to business

WhiteRoses · 13/02/2010 11:34

HUGE congratulations to Hermya! Well done! I know the feeling, keeping on checking the tests... I was like that with mine - not sure I should admit this, but they were sitting on top of the cistern in our toilet for about three days! Not very hygienic but I think I was afraid that if I couldn't see them, it would mean I'd imagined the whole thing! Lol!

Anyway! I guess I'll see you over on the Graduates thread?! (Yay for Hermya! )

So... Who's next then in lucky February? Any Valentine's testers?

Calyx · 13/02/2010 14:18

LOL@WhiteRoses tests sitting on the toilet for 3 days! I actually found my sister's +ve test in a box and her wee one was born 4 years ago, I'm sure I'll keep mine too (if I ever get one)!

Hermya oooh 1-2 weeks will soon turn into 37-38 weeks, how exciting thank YOU for doing the exciting symptom watch and keeping us up to date so well, we were ALL with you

Bellaby I love the iphone, I think I'm checking mn more on the iphone than the pc as DH is always hogging it (except for right now lol!) but it does take ages to write out messages doesn't it!

Deliriouscow (LOL@your name!) your doctor sounds like a really knowledgeable person eh well don't worry, you're in the right place for advice!

Kurlyvoice don't you worry about all your colleagues getting pg and going off on maternity leave! Just think of all the people they will take on to cover the leave - those people might be sooooo grateful for the chance to work for a few months and it could make their lives better... does that help? (I started my permanent post as a maternity leave cover!)

DH and I were supposed to be doing 'valentine's day' stuff today as he's cheffing tomorrow as the restaurant is fully booked. But he stayed up watching tv last night and slept on the sofa. He does this ALL THE TIME but last night I said could he please make the effort to come to bed as it's Saturday/our valentine's day etc and I dropped hints etc about rumpy pumpy in the morning! He said ooooh great I'll have a shave and shower before bed then mwaa haaa etc etc. I woke at 7am - he's not in the bed. I woke at 8am - he's not in the bed. He came to bed at 9am as I was about to get up. I thought 'great, some romancing on the way' but he fell asleep immediately! and he had about 1cm stubble from not shaving so he's not had his shower either. I waited half an hour then got up and brought him through a cuppa tea. You know how it is - I was ready for lurve! It was his LAST CHANCE. He said 'thanks babes' and fell asleep again - left the tea and it got cold. At 11.30 he came through to the living room in his dressing gown. Wonders why I'm in the huff! So I told him and he went for a shower and shave. Came back through. By this time I've deep cleaned the kitchen, working off my sexual frustration and annoyance, I've hoovered and polished the living room and been out to the shop and back. And he's now in the mood. Well I'm not. CD10 or not, I'm NOT up for it. Am I being unreasonable!????
